3D Dot Game Heroes is so good. I put the game aside because I went back to school and never got back to playing the game. It's such good fun, takes the elements of classic Zelda and takes it up a notch.

Not only is the PS3 one of my favourite consoles of all time, but it’s currently hooked up in one of my most played consoles. I have a huge backlog of PS3 games. It’s also my largest physical collection. It was fun to watch your list and see what you still wanted to play a lot of these games I still have to get as the collection grow ever bigger and bigger.

Great video! The FFXIII series is on my list to play as well. I played a bunch of FFXIII but I don't think I finished it. Never got around to playing the other games in the series. Recently purchased XIII on Steam since it was super cheap so I'll get around to it...eventually. 3D Dot Game Heroes was a blast but I don't think I finished that one either. Tokyo Jungle on the other hand was my jam. Such a unique experience at the time. Good luck with that pile of shame!

Tales of Xillia is my favorite game of all time. It really encourges you to try different teams due to the moves fusing system. As every move in the game can be fused with other character move mid battle, you can create some great looking new moves. As for Tales of Graces F; out of the nine Tales games I've played, it has the best love story, with really wholesome one.

3D Dot Game Heroes is a hidden gem. It was published by Atlus, but it was developed by the studio behind Bravely Default. I don't know if you've played that series, but they are EXCELLENT. My PS3 shame game is Ni No Kuni. I know, I know, don't burn me at the stake please. It's sitting on my shelf and I just haven't gone back to it. Love the Studio Ghibli art style, just didn't get into the gameplay when I played it. I'll go back eventually. I finally hooked up my 360 and took Lost Odyssey off the shelf, so at least I'm making some headway into the pile of shame. We're not going to talk about my Steam library though.

I'm on the same boat as you, I've never finished Ni No Kuni yet I own almost everything Ni No Kuni like the sequel on PS4, the 2-volume manga and watched the animated movie on Netflix There's also the mobile game Level 5 co-developed with Netmarble, but I dunno if it's still active in the West since its Global launch What would be nice if to have a remake/remaster of the DS game that has Oliver as the protag but featured a totally different story from the PS3 one we have

Not to sound like a Femtrooper fanboy but every time I get the notification that you've got a new video it brings a smile to my face because that's just your energy! Anyway, I never had that many PS3 games so my pile of shame is mercifully small. There are two though. The first and biggest for me is Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom. I loved this puzzly adventure game but I drifted away from it somewhere in the middle and never got round to going back. Criminal. The other one is Assassin's Creed 2, which I own but have never even started playing. People still say it's the best Assassin's Creed game so considering I actually own it already, I really should play it at some point.

I had the exact same problem! I got the PS3 sorta late in its life, and while I picked up a lot of the games I just kept playing DS, PSP, and later 3DS games while it was current. I’ve chipped away at the backlog a little in the last couple years (I polished off all the PS3 Atelier games and finally got to Xillia and Xillia 2), I still gotta play the FFXIII sequels plus there’s some other odds and ends I’d like to play like finishing Valkyria Chronicles. But yeah it was. Such a strange era. All the best stuff was on handhelds.

I love the Final Fantasy XIII series. All three are aces! 3D Dot Game Hero is also fantastic. I haven’t played it beyond the halfway point. What I have played is SO much fun!! Heavy Rain. I’ve been close to the finish, but I haven’t reached it, yet. I mentioned those because you have them in your title shot. Persona 5. I have it for PS3 and Switch and I haven’t really played it much, though I want to. Kingdom Hearts 3 is collecting dust because I have the 1.5 and 2.8, yet I haven’t gotten to them because it’s just so much to bite off. No No Kuni and Ni No Kuni 2. I just have so much that I have them backlogged. I have them on PS3 and Switch, too. There are many more, but it’s to embarrassing to say. Whenever I fire up the PS3, I just play Ultra Street Fighter IV. I LOVE that game. It may be my all time favorite fighter.

I need to finish 3D Dot Game Heroes myself. Fun game but I find it pretty hard. I thoroughly enjoyed both Tales of Graces f and Xillia. Probably the big 1 for me on PS3 that I want to get through but still haven't is Yakuza: Dead Souls. I know I would have fun with it just seeing Kiryu shooting down zombies haha

Wonderful to hear you liked Final Fantasy 13 as well Paige, I don't think I've ever heard anyone on youtube NOT trash it haha! I didn't warm to it at first either but after a while I couldn't help but love it. The soundtrack is wonderful too. However I actually had a better time with 13-2 I think as it hit the ground running and also had a great score. I remember getting the collectors edition with soundtrack brand new for only 20 bucks because it was just not a very popular game at the time.

Great list, I love FF13 and was able to finish it recently. The nice thing about PS3 is it’s still a playable console. Once you install the game most games have good load times and still look good. One thing that really helped me was getting a Retro Fighters Defender controller. It charged with USB C and just feels more modern.

3D Dot Game Heroes is a good game, and it has NES Zelda vibes on how it operates/functions. If you like that era then this game is a good time. You can customize things, and edit your character/sword with the voxels. I have recently been playing it on my PS3 as well.

I beat 13 and own parts 2 and 3 but haven't played them. I didn't like 1 at first but it really grew on me. By the time I was at the endgame I was liking the combat a lot. I re-bought a PS3 earlier this year for the express purpose of playing the Tales games that are stuck on the system. Graces F is shaping up to be my favorite in the series and is fun as hell. Final Fantasy XIII-2 is my favorite of the XIII series. The main antagonist is cool. I even bought the two books-the prequel (The Fragments Before) and the perspective of the main villain (The Fragments After). (No spoilers but to me, FFXIII-2's ending was the most impactful ending of the entire Final Fantasy series. I didn't expect how it went-I couldn't think of anything else for a week.)

I love 3D Dot Game Heroes (as do many other people in the comments, apparently) and yeah, it's a fun Zelda-style game. You can "build" in the sense that you can design your own character, I suppose. Tokyo Jungle is also pretty great. I wouldn't call it SHORT though. I mean, individual runs may not be that long, but actually unlocking stuff can be time consuming. A game on my PS3 shame list is Folklore. I keep saying I'll go back to it but...yeah, I haven't.

I think the problem with PS3 JRPGs is that we got alot of 7 or 8/10 games, very few of them were truly special. Good games are still good games, but they usually dont leave a lasting impression.

The ps3 architecture is so different and complex which is why games qre are still stuck there. If a game was built for ps3 in mind (not 360), it is harder to port.

Due to circumstances I got over 50 PS3 games for free back in the day. At some point my PS3 broke down, I didn't want to send it in for repairs (due to horror stories about getting back a scratched up console which is obviously not yours) so I tried to fix it myself, but it only half-worked. So I bought a PS4 and didn't look back. Until COVID that is. I saw my pile of 25+ unplayed games, bought my cousins PS3 and started alternating between PS3 games and newer ones. Most of them weren't JRPGs, so they were a lot shorter (around the 20 hour mark) and last year I finally managed to play the last one! My pile is no more! Except maybe the new pile of PS4 games. I loved FF13. It's the game I bought my PS3 for. Loved FF13-2 as well. Didn't like the third game as much because I don't like time limits, they stress me out. Tales of Graces F was my first Tales of game and I loved it. Though if you don't like any of the other entries, then maybe it's just not your kind of thing. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a remake or rerelease of Tales of Xillia on modern consoles. I'd love to try both Xillia games and Abyss.

I finished 'Tales of Vesperia' on the Switch after not completing it on the 360. I loved it so much that I bought a PS3 a couple of years ago to get 'Xillia 1,' 'Xillia 2,' and 'Graces F.' I need to get back to 'Xillia 1,' but I loved every moment of it so far. It just got lost in the shuffle of my backlog. 'Tales of Arise,' however, felt like a big misstep for me. I have about 25% left but am not really interested in finishing it.

That's a quality list of games. I'd probably recommend them all, well most of them. Final Fantasy XIII-2 is a much more interesting take on XIII's combat. It doesn't have quite the same production quality, but it's a lot more fun to play. (Lightning Returns, though, you can easily skip) Both Tales games are great games and some of the better games in the series. Tales of Graces is the better game, with better combat and just more content in general, but Xillia is very streamlined which makes it much easier to get into and it isn't even all that long. So I'd recommend to play Xillia before Graces. (btw. it's "Exillia"). 3D Dot Game Heroes is fantastic. As you said, it plays very much like an old Zelda game, it also likes to parody a lot of old Dragon Quest tropes. Personally this would be my #1 pick, but since these games are all good, just start with what you feel like playing. Tokyo Jungle also is a very unique game. I guess today it would seem a bit like a roguelite since you basically start over again and again. You're constantly unlocking new animals that all play differently and therefore you have to change your strategy on how to survive. It really is like nothing else I ever played, but I also found it rather repetitive after a while. So this might actually be the one game on your list I'm not that enthusiastic about. Just give it a try. A few runs to get a feel for the game. This is something you can pick up again from time to time.

oh man I had the same deal w/ FF13, I did enjoy the game but it got too hard towards the end so I just ended up looking up the rest of it online, though b/c of that I allowed myself to go through 13-2 and Lightning Returns, and Lightning Returns shot up to being one of my favorite FF games, it was so good

Tales of graces f I gave up near the end. I was in another planet in a really confuse dungeon with strong enemies. Might come back one day just to finish. It's a really funny game

I still play on my PS3, it's the only "retro" console I even use since my PC can play PS1 and 2 games through emulation and rom files, PS5 can play PS4 games and I mostly covered Nintendo's games through my Switch Online subscription that I had for a time. PS3 games however, I can only play on PS3, unless if the rumors are true and Sony does in fact do PS3 emulation but even then, it probably will take years to build up their back catalogue. I still go to conventions to buy PS3 games and make it a priority to play 1 PS3 game a month even if it feels like it when it comes to PS3, I have covered a great portion of the libarary, but I still like playing random PS3 games. I am surprised FF13 never got a remaster despite 99% of the series being on other platforms and I'm also waiting for a Tales of Xillia remaster, hopefully they also do Xillia 2 as well.

I think you'll become a Tales of Series fan once you find that one game that will entice you to the franchise. The best three Tales of games that I always recommend are the most popular ones. Symphonia, Abyss and Vesperia. I started with Symphonia but didn't fully get into the series until I played Vesperia with my brother then I got into Abyss because I watched the first few episodes of the anime here on KZbin.

I know what you mean in PS3 maybe not having the JRPG Library of Switch or PS4, but many Switch/PS4 games were originally PS3 games. Persona 5, Valkyria Chronicles are two great games that were originally PS3 exclusives. Also PS3 had Tales, Final Fantasy, Star Ocean, Nier, etc. Had sleeper games like Eternal Sonata (think Tales mixed with a unique setting of being in composer Chopin's dying mind). Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 1 and 2 were all on PS3.

also Ni No Kuno Wrath of White Witch and Skyrim were on PS3. It was actually a pretty solid RPG console, but many modern console have better versions of the same games either through slightly higher resolution or frame rates.

The PS3 was a weird time of people hating on the "JRPG" and the better ones coming out on X360. As a big Tales of fan at the time, a good chunk of the series was available there eventually, and I finished all of them. You are right the first time that it's "Ex-illia" but they never really say them in the English versions so I get why people aren't sure. I also haven't finished 3D Dot Game Heroes. It's really great, but I got frustrated once they started throwing in enemies that just drop your health to half a heart no matter what if they touch you. I did beat FFXIII and hated every minute of it. I'm not sure if that's the more common experience or not!

Mostly because it’s very inconvenient for me to play PS3 - it’s not hooked up and as a parent, I play games very differently these days at certain times so having it on a modern console would help me out big time!

3D Dot Game Heroes is sort of Zelda & Lego combo lol. At least, you're right about PS3 had lack of RPGs library. I bought RPGs while most of them were either Tales of ... series and Atelier series. Oh, PS3 has few hidden gems such as Eternal Sonata, Ar Tonelico III, Enchanted Arms, White Knight Chronicles, Class of Heroes 2G, and Rune Factory Tides of Destiny. Oh btw, Disgaea D2 is one of best Disgaea series ever. NCAA Football 14 and Madden 25 were last games that EA made really good then I never buy either games ever again. Oh yes, Star Ocean 4 is only Star Ocean series made to PS3.

You have to finish FF13! The ending is still my favorite. A very emotional ending with a great track, “My Hands” by Leona Lewis. I consider it a single game with the ending being canon as I didn’t like the sequels nearly as much.

Xbox 360 actually had more Japanese RPGs, even a Korean RPG. I barely played Fairy Fencer F. It just came out right before I had to leave for deployment. I regret not getting 3D Dot Game Heroes. Play it for the both of us.

Whoo! Final Fantasy XIII! 🥰 I think it's worth returning to it to finish. In the post game you'll be able to go back to Gran Pulse and do all the Cie'th Stone Missions, do some more levelling up (look up the "Growth Egg" when possible) and upgrading. Then you can return to the final boss and absolutely crush it. 😈 My PS3 backlog is a fair size and has nearly _all_ of the 'Tales' games on it. I have no idea when I'm going to play them. I think uninterrupted quiet time is myth at this point 😮‍💨: Demon's Souls L.A. Noire - Complete Edition Star Ocean: The Last Hope - International Tales of Graces f Tales of Symphonia Chronicles (I still own and have beaten the GameCube original) Tales of Xillia 1 and 2 Valkyria Chronicles (released before the inclusion of trophies)

I remember being excited about getting the PS3, figuring there would be some cool rpgs like the PS2 had. Man, talk about disappointment.... I did enjoy Dragon's Crown, Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Nier and Drakengard 3 though. I do have the FFXIII trilogy but I have yet to play them.

Happy to hear another Final Fantasy XIII fan! It took me a while to roll credits on this one, and there are some BRUTAL bosses in the later chapters. It might take some time to get the hang of the battle system when you go back, but it would be so worth it to see the conclusion of the game. I also LOVED XIII-2! Such a fun evolution of the Paradigm battle system with the monster collecting. Quite the interesting OST as well. Would love to hear your thoughts on those if you go back to XIII and eventually start XIII-2! Excellent video, Paige, really enjoyed this one!

You really don't have to. It is very online based, and the online is dead. All of the aide quest are online. The combat is just FF12/ Xenoblade 1 but much worse.

If u want a way to do ur back log why not stream the games call it back log stew or back log soup. lol and chat can help u thought the areas ur stuck in. Your channel and u may have thought of it but a few hours aweek set for the back log would prove helpful. Doesn’t have to be sa set time either just when u know u got a little gaming time. I’m a father so I know it would be tough to find the time. It’s something I thought about myself after I replace the dead pc and have a you tube come back

Final Fantasy XIII is backwards compatible on modern Xbox platforms and the resolution was upgraded significantly on One X or Series X. (not Series S) I love those games, to many games are open world nowadays and XIII part 1 was actually refreshingly linear for most of the game. You need to really adjust at the strategically as the game limits how much yuo can level up to keep the game challenging, you can't upgrade to max level until you've finished the story. There is a PC version, (if you're not into mods, i would go for the windows version and not the steam version, which requires an Xbox Account on PC) The PC version has an Easy mode, the console versions don't, XIII-2 has an easy mode on consoles but the original doesn't.

@@femtrooper Yes I did while all my friends at the time were telling me how awful the game is despite the fact on the 1st day they were enjoying themselves. I think it was more peoples expectations than the quality of the game that people judge it on. XIII-2 time travel will give it a more of an open feel, but still linear enough for you not to lose your way. Last boss tips on FFXIII you need to make use of your Synergist and Saboteur roles, maybe Sentinel but I don't remember and an accessory to reduce the chances of instant death, but debuffing him and buffing yourself with positive status ailments will reduce the chance anyway should you go back to it. I'm playing Lightning Returns for the 1st time and that game comes with a time limit to finish otherwise you have to restart the game, only positive is you keep all your upgraded stats, weapons etc on a new playthrough so eventually one should be able to get to the end. Still an unusual mechanic should you end up getting to play it i the future. Should you get to end of XIII the story through each game from what I can see so far remains at a high standard, so you should be fulfilled in that department once you get to them. Lightning Returns mechanics will take a little getting used to speaking from present experience on my end. XIII-2 combat is like XIII-1.

Final Fantasy XIII does have some difficult bosses as another person said. Unfortunately you have to level grind and keep putting the points into the grid. system. I loved it though it was great. My pile of PS3 shame includes Folklore, Eternal Sonata, 3D Dot Game Heroes, Tales of Xillia 1 & 2, and both Tales of Symphonia games. FF XIII-2 & 3, I plan to play on Xbox Series X (where I beat XIII).
