ps3 shuts off by itself after loading game

You're basically screwed.. it's your disc drive. Everything else works, online gaming, netflix, Vudu.. but when you play a disc everything is great until you get to gameplay. You can fix it yourself but it requires taking the unit apart. Sony doesnt deal much with PS3 anymore.. you have to read trouble shooting forums on their site. It costs roughly $75 - $100 to fix at a local repair shop. You can try the internal fan by shutting off the unit in the back... pressing down eject and simultaneously turning the unit back on from the rear. You can try standing the unit upright vertically... that's the best help I can give. Mine does this and it's very frustrating. Some low definition games will play but anything high def forget it once you get into gameplay.

i've had my PS3 since 2009 (it's a fatty). I've just recently started having this issue a month ago (Oct 2019). This happens on ANY game (including digital) I put into my PS3 including PS1 games (not ps2 compatible). I can watch KZbin, Hulu, and Netflix all day long and my system will never shutdown, but the second I go to play a game and get to the title screen; it shuts down. It seems like no one has figured out how to solve this problem or the other responses I've seen is "just buy a new system or upgrade". Well some of us don't like to replace nor upgrade, we like to fix the problem. So has anyone actually figured out how to fix this problem? Yes, I've replaced the thermal paste. Yes, I've cleaned it. Yes, it in an open area. So let's try not be smarta**es and state the obvious.

Hey guys! Here's the sad news. Everytime i turned on the PS3, the time that the menu pops out and till it shuts down gets shorter and shorter. Then After a week or two it never turned on anymore (Yes it eventually became the YLOD). So guys the moment this happens to your ps3, its a sign that your console is going to have the YLOD. So better backup and save all your data before it happens. Hope this helps.

I had the same problem with my fat 80. Demon souls would shut off on me after about 5 min in and then flash the red light at me. I really wanted to play so I bought the digital version. I played the digital without issue. So this led me to think it had something to do with the the games on disc. I replaced the blue ray drive and boom, no more shut down. I also replaced the power supply just in case since it was also a culprit.

i think we have the same problem here,but my ps3 beeping(3 beeps) before loading the games,it beeps in the start up screen,but i can still play games after i start it repeatly in couple times,maybe 3 or 4 times,but dont forget to pluck your joystick with it's cable.and after start it again in the third or fourth times,it will turn to recovery request screen,ok?press ok and after 100%,you will be able to play the games you choose.i hope these steps can help you to play again,have to be patients.

I have one similar problem, when i play gran turismo 6 and enter in a race, it freezes in the loading screen, and i exit the game, my ps3 do 3 beeps and restart itself

you have to unplug the back wire then plug it back in and hold the power button until it turns off and until you hear the two beeps and restore it after turn it off and wait 1 hour and unplug the wire and plug it back in and then load your game and quit game and turn it off and turn it back on and it should work

Put it inside a drawer, turn the ps3 on and close the drawer, wait for it to reach the 4th speed of the fan (you will hear it getting faster as it changes the fan stage) launch the game, should work just fine, if so, open the drawer just a little bit so it doesn't overheats, but never let it cool to much, if you let it go downtown to the 1st fan speed it will turn off. Keep it nice and warm

Yeah..I noticed on 2k07 and 2k10 just getting in the game,it shuts down the ps3. But when I play ghostbusters I can play for hours and no shutdown.

I have the same problem with two two of my PS`3s One like this (early) model and one of the new ones also. I bought both from new. I understand that the problem is probably because the machine was played during warm weather and overheats part of the internal processor chip which fails. Not all games use the exact same circuitry, and may be why some games still play. But I feel fairly sure that the problem is that part of the CPU/GPU is overheated/scorched and small circuits are damaged inside. What do I do; I have two which don`t play anymore.

I'm having the same issue I replaced the thermal paste and added copper shims I also replaced the power supply thinking that I didn't have enough ohmage now I'm starting to think its an actuall hardware failure of some sort or the mother board is finally going bad they are in fact rated for 8 years ive had my system for 10 now so that's a strong possibility

I had that same problem with used games I brought I found out when it updates it tell you on the screen ITS GONNA QUIT THE RESTART THEN INSTALL THE GAME so I waited until it powered up and loggin and as the game was still in the Ps3 console I left the cursor on the game so the title will pop up then I left it their for 10 minute after that the game started playing

hey there. This happens to me when i played 2k13, Read dead and some other games i have. But when i tried playing black ops it didnt happen to me! but after an hour of playing i was disappointed it shut down by itself. For the games that didnt shut down on you try playing it longer, maybe its gonna shut down but if it doesnt, lucky you! hope this helps.

I have a similiar problem, but I think it is related to hard disk access, because it happens to me even if i try to play a video file stored on the PS3. Can someone suggest a solution, because I cannot backup my files if it keeps shutting down on accessing the hard disk.

You wont lose any data if you get LYOD ! Try PS2 games if it's compatible , And if doesn't shut down in like 10 minutes ! It's probably the hard drive ! There unpredictable !

Well i have no idea how much is the cost of fixing it but it might cost around $100-$200? maybe less maybe more. I suggest you do everything you can to save it and backup your files until you are sure that it is unfixable by yourself. Then bring it to the repair. Hope this helps!
