Keep in mind guys that the reason why Daigo throws out Shoryukens like that is because he feels he needs to. I think I remember a quote someone said about him stating something like, "I play from my heart and if I don't do that, I'm not playing at all." which I highly respect because it throws everyone else's concept of how to play out the window. Sure he knows some frame date and whatnot but playing from your heart beats playing on a piece of paper so to speak.

He isn't losing interest...the amount of game hours he's putting into the game within just this year and in recent time alone is ridiculous. The dude is every bit as dedicated as he was years ago. He took 2nd at SF 25th Anniversary, he was incredibly dominant at Topanga, has placed top-8 at Evo for the past 5 years in AE:2012...so how is he all of a sudden now losing interest? When asked why he did that. Daigo stated "It Felt Right", he didn't make some ridiculous excuse as so many of you are claiming. Daigo has been known to doing random Shoryukens out of nowhere, he's been doing this Since ST. The only difference was he got Caught for doing it and lost for it. Bad excuse, considering if you look at his play charts they are more then ever before. So yeah, the time he spends playing this game contradicts what you're saying. Players simply caught up. Remember prior to Vanilla SF4's release, Daigo was one of the absolute 1st players to play this game and he picked up a lot of things no one else did, hence why he dominated so much. Once players caught on and up, its been different.

It's quite possible that Daigo might have let Tokido win this round because the winner of this match would go on to face Infiltration (or at least the winner in Laugh vs Infiltration). Knowing that Daigo has not held a good record against Infiltration (since last years Evo), Daigo might have opted to let Tokido step up and prevent Tokido from making grand finals.

Daigo isn't above spamming Shoryukens. Even he does it every once in a while, and this time it didn't pay off. It was just good play by Tokido, who blocked the first of the few random reversal Shoryukens and capitalized on every one after that.

Is there anyone in the entire scope of existence that is capable of serious tournament level play using Oni. Regular Akuma takes all the shine man. How many high level Ryus do you see besides Daigo's honestly? Ryu is about the same as Gen tier wise too... Daigo doesnt need to "prove his skill" to anyone, his fighting game prowess is well established. Also his most recent set with Xian he demolished him 10-0 so he definitely has nothing to prove.

If Daigo really didn't give a shit, then he would he start getting creative and use other characters besides Ryu and whatever other characters are the current top tier (e.g. Yun, before he was nerfed). The energy attack spam is proof that he's trying his hardest to win, ironically. It's a lame strategy that's been proven to be very effective for all situations/match-ups, which is exactly why Daigo and Infiltration (with Akuma) do it all day long in every tournament they go to.

Some of the excuses that I'm hearing from these post are Pathetic. Daigo did NOT want to let Tokido win, nor did he stop laying SF4 less. He dominated Topanga, took 2nd place at 25th Anniversary...and he's somehow losing interest or letting Tokido passed? The real fact is this...players have caught up to Daigo in SF4 which is what is causing The Beast to no longer dominate as how he did in the earlier period of SF4. Lame excuses when in truth, Tokido outplayed Daigo at Evo 2013.

Great match for both players. Daigo fanboys: Daigo let em win. I say: No, the only reason for each player to participate in this tournament is play against Daigo or Tokido, the 2 real legends on this game, i mean we have a lot of stars but just 2 legends and them was here in this match, Daigo and Tokido are friends but rivals too. Is a lot between both, i can understand how could feel Daigo in that round after that response of Tokido in the second match and the second round of last game. I say Tokido is a little better than Daigo, just by game style. Tokido "The murderface" and Daigo "The beast" Umehara. The two best players in the world.
