Yeah I have a 2TB 2.5” SSD in mine and it was just two screw and slide out. PS3 and PS4 are both super easy to swap with off the shelf hardware

The Xbox SSD expansion interface is actually semi-standard too, based on CFExpress. Typical CFExpress cards use older PCIe generations and are very expensive due to being aimed at the professional market, so while that's not yet a route to do any better than Seagate's 1TB card, the future shows promise. Like Sony, Microsoft might require device validation before accepting new NVMe storage devices though. The DMA bus access that NVMe provides has security implications. However, if it turns into a free-for-all where any compatible storage is allowed, I'd expect some cheap eBay CFExpress-to-M.2 sleds to appear somewhere down the line and put both on a pretty level playing field.

Since the side panels are easily removed I wonder if there will be 3rd party custom side panels available. Its basically a cheap blow moulded plastic part. Personally I think mat black side panels that follow the curve of the main chassis would look way better

@@hyperloler honestly never had issues with flat head, Phillips were a little hit and miss because of the increased edges and I've only had a few experiences with torx. The edges broke way too easily on the torx driver i had for my xbox1 controller. Plus i have a ton of flat head and Phillips drivers and I have look everywhere for the torx screw drivers. So honestly it's just my few experiences with torx that makes me hate them.

@@issaciams well it's a fact that most professionals transitioned to torx years ago (at least in central europe). when I go to the hardware store the biggest variety of screws is with torx because it's less likely to wear out or strip the screwhead.

I believe that’s the Tempest audio engine. The 3D audio is off loaded to a dedicated cpu, that’s almost as powerful as the PS4’s Jaguar SoC. And the IO (input/output) has it’s own microchip controllers so the PS5’s CPU doesn’t have to waste clock cycles to read/write to/from the GPU/SSD.
