PS5 vs PS4 (Shadow of the Colossus) Performance Mode (1080p 60fps)

None of the PS4 games got any upgrade on PS5. It is just the same as PS4 Pro. Unless it's a game that had unlocked framerate on PS4 Pro, it now has a more stable 60 fps. For people who owned Base PS4, it is great but, if you have PS4 Pro, there is no need to transfer data to PS5.

I haven't played it yet, but Mystic just mentioned this on his latest video about back-compat PS4 games that are broken on PS5, and this Shadow of the Colossus Remake is one of them. The textures of many elements just don't fully load at all, looking very mediocre on PS5, but great on PS4. Ironic.

Once you do get a job & save up enough I'd definitely get the PS5 since it's backwards compatible with all PS4 games (minus 5 specific obscure games, but you can look into those to see if they're something you'd want). I'd also recommend saving up for a sizable internal SSD since the 825 GB it comes with ain't squat (Western Digital on Amazon are quite affordable), would suggest either a 4 or 6 TB.

From what I've researched the dynamic resolution cinematic mode has a higher resolution, hitting closer to 4k

no, it isnt any different from ps4 pro. its almost like ps5 just has ps4 pro built-in without being able to utilize ps5's power. There is actually no ps5 upgrade on any ps4 games. The only ones that truly benefit are Ps4 pro games that already had unlocked fps like Sekiro that had unstable 40 - 50 fps getting stabler 60fps. i guess loading time from SSD makes a bit of difference too. these videos are kind of meaningless for performance comparisons.

It fell to 40 at times on PS4 Pro. Solid 60 now. But, I still can't stand how performance mode looks. I'm legit playing it again right now. Might stop and wait for a 4k 60fps patch or re-release.

It's a similar story there. The game has a significantly improved framerate, however the 4K mode... It doesn't have the jump yet. People are hoping that it will get a 4K upgrade, same with this game, but that depends on Team Ico there, and that's not a developer I know would or wouldn't with confidence.

@John Team Ico disbanded in 2014 or 15 depending on who you trust with the timeframe, with the team being forced to make The Last Guardian run on PS5 instead despite it being done for PS4, and I was saying that in terms of The Last Guardian as all the Team Ico devs still have prospects for game development. Though if they’d even work on another project after everything is a mystery that probably will never get a definite answer.

Why not 120 fps? My Sony tv and ps5 were supposed to handle it, so far I've seen no game running at 120 fps and taking advantage of my hardware's specs. Games from ps4 era really should be running 4k 120 fps on ps5 in my opinion

@@christermad For a game to run at 120 FPS on a console, the developers actually need to design a mode for it. Most devs don't do this and just stick to 60 FPS since it is still the industry standard, and most devs also do not want to go back to old PS4 titles and patch them to allow this to happen, especially since most console games tend to have things like physics and animation speed tied to the framerate, and this can cause stuff to break severly if proper care isn't taken to prevent it. Also no, the PS5 will not be running native PS4 or PS5 games at 4K 120 FPS period. There are hardly any PC builds that could even achieve 120 FPS at 4K in any game from 2015 or later. Tldr is the PS5 can support 120 FPS for a limited number of games at 1080p, and in some cases with upscaling to maybe 1440p. You ain't gonna get any better than that.

@@noodleman4555 I run PS4 games on my PS5 and I run PS5 games. I really don't feel or see any difference though. Maybe on Horizon. So imo if people have ps4 pro i don't recommend them upgrading. There's just no compelling reason. I really though we would get real 4k 60 or 120 fps this time around.

Cinematic is actually locked at 30. Modding has shown that it can handle an unstable 60 being around 57 frames for the most part, but whether we'd get that or not is up to BluePoint, and I doubt we'd get anything on that until all work on Demon's Souls has cleared up. Specifically, if FromSoft decides to agree to add the 6th Archstone DLC.

It runs at 60fps in performance mode which looks awful. I switched back to the 4k 30fps mode because of how bad it looked. Stuff loads in like a foot away from you. I'd wait for a patch if we ever get one.

@@toaster4975 I'm hoping for that myself. However it depends on when they finish with Demon's Souls. If FromSoft does agree to make its 6th Archstone DLC or not. Modding for this has came out already, barely, for PS5 however and it shows something interesting. It's able to run it at a stable 50fps, but not a stable 60. At uncapped or 60fps cap, it usually hovers around 57/58 frames. About the same as Base PS4 Performance Mode. Still really freaking good, but it certainly shows how hard it can be to run games at 4k60, even on "Next Gen." Honestly, I'd only recommend the upgrade to PS5 or Series X right now if you have the base version of their prior console and want an actual, impactful upgrade to things other than just loadtimes for the most part. With this generation leap being much smaller than any before it by comparison, I can't blame anyone for not wanting to jump on it unless they have a game coming out soon that they really want to play. Demon's Souls already did that for a few, but this trend will only continue with GoW Ragnarok, FF16, and many more.

Possibly a remaster soon enough. Pretty sure on the ps5 sub reddit they have a list of games that can do 60fps. Last time I checked it can do upscaled 4k at 60fps for select games.

ya no hay salto grafico desde la generacionde ps4 y xbox one solo es ujn poco mas de resolucion que se podra ver un poco mejor pero nadamas, por esa razon no compre la ps5 porque no existe ya ese salto grafico que habia en consolas antiguas ejemplo de ps1 a dreamcast se motaba el salto grafico o de ps2 a ps3. la generacion pasada fue la gen de los remasters y esta es la generacvion de los remakes como sea se miran sin salto grafico solo cambia un poco mejor la resolucion y el ssd sus tiempos de carga. de momento tengo series s cuando baje ps5 a 350 dolares la compro .

So watch the edges of the Colossus and you'll see some jitter, on ps5 it's non existent. The jitter is nothing new and we're kinda used to it. But the smoother performance is something to note. Butter smooth

I bought an ssd (samsung 870 evo 500gb) for my ps4 a while ago for faster load times. My load time for this game is12:26.... How? Ps5 has better hardware and supposedly a much faster ssd

Demon's Souls remake loads up in 3 - 4 seconds from the main menu. None of the loading time in DS is longer than 5 seconds. Despite having superior graphics and meshes to load up than this one. PS4 games don't seem to properly utilize PS5 hardware.

The lower FPS the PS4 version has actually serves to make the game 'feel' more cinematic whereas the smoothness of the PS5 version makes it look like a smooth high framerate 'game.' Like the pressure and visceral-ness can be felt more with the chopiness of lower framerate as he's on board the colossus. In this instance I think the former is more suitable for this game.
