Hi everyone, thank you for watching and understanding my frustration with this situation. Just wanted to clarify and expand on some things I see mentioned in the comments. I compiled a small album of scans from PSA that I will link so you can make your own decision: imgur.com/a/ajmXnWg I mentioned in the video that only a few cards set off red flags for me to check the photos originally. It wasn't until this order was in hand that I realized the extent of damage. Of those cards, I only screenshotted a handful to send to the original representative who was in contact to me about these upcharges to inform them of damage with my order. The other issue with PSA is that these original scans they send when grading starts are only available before grades are available for the most part. The only reason I even have these photos is because the app on my phone did not update to the new photos the PSA website had the graded scans. In the past when I had reached out to PSA about cards with this damage and requested the before scans, I was told I would need to mail all cards with the perceived damage before hand. This to me is a major red flag in PSA accountability as what is the point of the on arrival photos if they are nearly impossible to access after a certain point.

Hi good video I have the same problem at the moment and at least for me it was only 1 card but it still sucks I wrote to them and they said i need to send them in again Becausce i am from europe and there is no official turnaround time they can give this is a huge red flag 🚩 When i asked them if they just can send me the pictures they took before grading i didn’t really get a answer, just that is psa standard to send them in again for a quality review The even couldnt tell me what the big difference is between just checking the scans and send them in again

I also think that "upcharging" is a conflict of interest. They give a higher grade, then they charge you more money for the exact same service / amount of work. So they have a financial interest in giving you a higher grade to make more profit, which lowers the integrity of the grade. They also create the expected graded value of your card themselves based on their own grading process, and then charge you more because of expected value. What if the collector is not going to sell the card how is the value post grade relevant to the price for the grading service? They are doing the same service of grading a card whether the card is worth a penny or 10k. Its a total Racket.

Yeah it is one of the most backward things about their whole grading process. It is so weird to have more charges decided by their decision of a numerical value on the label. Plus the $4 upcharges they send out are such a joke when they can obviously do the job for $19. I mentioned it in a different reply but it's just a joke since they don't even know value of cards well at all.

100%, especially when it is so arbitrary. I submit almost everything at the base tier and almost rarely get upcharges. PSA's upcharges are completely randomly and feel up to the discretion of what they know is "Hot" at the time of grading. For example, they will upcharge for Charizard PSA 10s but not other cards that will sell for more because they actually know so little about what they are certifying.

Yup it's pretty awful and this is a widespread issue too. So many people I know have had this same issue. It is currently the main reason I haven't submit anything recently either. Completely unacceptable.

Yep I haven't sent anything in months since this happened and I just went ahead and deleted my couple hundred card carts while I wait for a resolution.

Beyond fucked situation to be in, I'm so sorry for you man and it's so frustrating to see they can't even take care of rare and expensive cards, imagine this happened to a one of kind of grail, they're handling super delicate collectables worth thousands, tens of thousands or even more and this is how they treat them. I'm disgusted.

Yeah I tried to mention in-between my flustered moments that if the cards you sent in had great sentimental value, you can't replace them. I am just frustrated that this is such a common occurrence that might now have any reasonable recourse.

A follow-up video will be good to get the response from psa. I think your case is strong. Apparently its not the first video showing that, like psa don't care as volume is a priority and probably they are backed by a good insurance. In all cases it touches at their core business and seems that they are not up to the level and their answer to this known problem is very poor

I plan to do a follow up video when they eventually make a decision. I am not hopeful as I saw someone mention before they have been waiting 6 months now for a resolution. It is just very frustrating working with PSA as they always feign care and interest when you first present a situation but take forever to actually resolve anything once it gets to them. Like it already takes 2-3 months to just get labels fixed when they mislabel the cards.

@@c5150k when CGC damaged 2 of my cards during reholder (out of many hundreds) , they emailed me to let me know and gave me credit. Completely different experience.

Bro HOW is this still happening!? The CEO has literally DM'd people AND customer service has responded to my CRC Request saying they are "investigating" it and that was months ago. Its been 6 months since I sent my CRC in and no payout. Its so bullshit bro. Im sorry that has happened to you multiple times now. Its bogus. I share your frustration Edison. Absolute crap!

I remember watching your video around the time my first order got damaged. I was really hoping you would have reached a resolution by now. This situation is so gross, have you gotten any updates at all from them? The only thing I have remotely received over the past month is "Process has no set time". I am not hopeful of a solution but I have seen some sports cards people get compensated in the past.

@EdisonSears This is the only response I've gotten from CRC on Nov 6th. My order arrived May 30th. 😞 "I just wanted to update you by letting you know that your submission is still on hold due to the investigation going on with your cards. I know not having your cards with you is frustrating but please be assured that we are looking into your order and are trying to resolve it in an accurate manner."

@EdisonSears I personally haven't pushed too hard. I've called 2 or 3 times and emailed a few times but never got nasty. It's possible if I pushed more aggressively I'd have gotten something but so far nothing.

As an update for OP, I've managed to get my grading fees back as credit without sending anything in. Will update if anything further comes from a second effort of pushing.

This situation has turned me off to grading with them all together. This video was recorded a couple months ago now, and since then I haven't sent anything in to them and am only mildly considering BGS at the moment. Just tough that the largest name in this business can be so careless.

@@EdisonSearsthat’s insanely unfortunate and infuriating man. I’d be very pissed off too. My only concern with BGS is that the cards are not held securely within the slab itself, causing it to move around - potentially damaging the card. I recently received BGS 10’s in the mail and half my cards had shifted at an angle within their slab. I had to tap the slab on my desk to get them straight within the slab. To me this doesn’t seem like good practice and I question the long term effect on the cards.

ive had a similar experience. always in the top right corner. i sent in a crystal Charizard and it was in pristine condition. when i got it back they gave me a grade 8 and there was damage on the top right back of the card.

I’m pretty sure I remember hearing about someone on Reddit getting a sub back with the top right corners fucked as well. I have had something similar happen with multiple cards being damaged, but sometimes the grade didn’t reflect the damage. In my opinion, I think there is a flaw in the encapsulation process, and that is where the damage is taking place- after it’s already been graded.

My latest bulk, one came back as "recolored", has a new sharpie mark on the back. Lets see their response cause i have 360degree video before shipping and front/back when recording packaging all the cards into the box with the psa paperwork.

I have had this happen a few times. Take pictures before you ship them and take pictures of their scans before they grade it. It is super annoying but will help you win a case with them. Sorry for the damaged cards.

Thankfully PSA provides on arrival photos now which I am hoping is an open and shut evidence for this case since they can't argue it was damage before or during transit. Who knows thought with this insane company.

@@PokeMage87 What kind of reimbursement though? If they take what could have been a psa 10 and turn it into a 9 because of their damage, that could be thousands in lost value. On the flipside, they could just come back and say well there were other issues and that one corner didn't put it at the 9.

@@dustinroberson1865 I can speak to what happened to mine. They reimbursed me for the value of the PSA 10 of my cards. They gave it to me in credit towards submissions that I had there already. It took like 6 months though so just keep at it and don’t let it go.

Had the same exact rubbing on the back of 2 off my very high value cards over 5,000 each at a 10 but both had the rubbing and graded a 9. I was pissed. It was a whole thing that I am still in the process of getting figured out.

I had this happen to me with some lower cost cards that I didn’t take photos of to validate, but it’s still frustrating that even the stuff with sentimental value can be messed up by someone you’re paying to grade it for you.

See if you can get super zoomed in forensic type photos of the wear to have better proof of reoccuring damage. Maybe there is a wear pattern that can be seen at a microscopic level of zoom. Suprised you kept it as cool as you did 😎

Yeah I have heard a lot of stories in the past where they were just not held accountable and you just get fucked out of the money. My hope is definitely that they will be more transparent with it since they have the scans they uploaded before grading that clearly shows no damage. I tried to save a couple of those for proof if a case ever gets brought up.

I actually had the same thing happen to me 4 or 5 years ago with a bulk sub, every single one of them came back with a jacked upper right back corner just like yours. This was before PSA did any scans and I didn’t take any photos before sending them in. Luckily those cards were nothing crazy, and PSA gave me a $100 voucher even though they said they did nothing wrong after a brief investigation. Since then I’ve been religiously taking videos of any cards I’m sending in from cards to sleeves, sleeves to toploaders, toploaders between cardboards wrapped in bubble wrap, and all that going into a box with shipping label already attached. A full video of this entire process for even a small bulk sub of 20 cards can span over 30 mins, but PSA had lost my trust after that incident and I’m doing everything I can to protect myself. By the way, I too realized the initial PSA scans are replaced with final slab scans after the grades come out, and so I saved the initial scans of all my cards currently in grading.

The question i have is what are they doing to damage the cards uniformly like that? Are they grabbing them with a tool from that corner? I can't figure out how this exact same damage on the same corner occurs.

People putting what is probably 0,05 cents of production cost paper cards in plastic cases and others spending thousands on them like it's an investment is still one of the most ridiculous things I've seen on internet marketplaces.

If they don’t compensate you for their screw up, I’d see if there’s any way to take Legal action. They quite literally provide proof they damaged your items resulting in a loss financially. Granted, I haven’t read their terms and conditions, so may not be plausible at all, but if possible I’d give it a shot Edit: Granted nobody’s ever taken action, I’m gonna assume they have a clause that states “nothing is our problem” granted your cards get damaged. At the very least, I’m gonna try and make a video on this to spread awareness. Gonna send this to community members. Hopefully others make videos on it to acknowledge what occurred to you, maybe if enough voices speak up, PSA will have to go “full damage control”. If so, maybe they’ll do all they can to compensate you. It’s the least you deserve going through that kind of crap with PSA.

That really sucks man... :( I've also just sent cards to PSA a little while ago for my first batch of cards to get graded. Looks like I shouldn't go with PSA and just use an Australian grading company (where I'm from)

I wish you the best with your submission but I have heard similar situations happen to overseas submitters before and I can't imagine how much more difficult it will be to reach any resolution when dealing with a company in another country and all the added time from transit.

PSA absolutely can absolutely be careless with cards. I have had many issues with the quality of the submissions upon return, as well as correspondence about how to resolve. Just painful, even had an autographed card they damaged once, no recourse. You would think that as the last step in the preservation process, they would actually care to make sure they preserved the original condition at all costs. But sadly, that’s not the world we live in. It’s probably is in some clause somewhere that if they damage your stuff, it’s your fault, lol.

Hey Swammey, I think all of my subs have been graded in California. I am not sure if they have multiple facilities out there, but I have yet to send anything to the new NJ office since I have been so turned off to grading.

Currently have 78 cards back at PSA right now with this exact same damage so can totally relate to the frustration! And we're not talking cheap cards either. Took me a few months to calm down and start submitting again.

I had the same thing happen to me, same damage, luckily it was only a 3 card sub but it had some nostalgic special cards for me so very annoying. I reached out to the customer service team and they’re investigating, hopefully I get reimbursed.

@@EdisonSears the rep responded very quickly but they’ve been going through the crc process for about a month now, they said I would be getting a call shortly about what the course of action would be but I’m still awaiting that call…

I just started grading earlier this year with psa and luckily have not had any issues. Actually had my childhood zard come back a 7 when i thought it would be a 5 or worse. Ive only sent about 80 cards since March but I’ve been pleased. Fingers crossed nothing happens in the future

Yeah normally everything works out fine. Was sending around at least 100 cards a month for the first half of the year but haven't had much confidence to send more after this.

Keep submitting to this trashcan of a company. I just got a submission back from them, 5 cards, 3 10s a 9 and a 7. The 7 seems arbitrary and it seems like this happens more and more. I know people will defend them but for the price you pay, the up charges and money they bring in there should be no issues like this. I moved on to another company, I’m done with PSA.

With one of my most recent submissions, PSA notified me that they damaged 3 of the 36 cards in total. It actually took me reaching out to them and asking for an update on the submission to find out that they were damaged (the reason I reached out was because another 3-4 submissions that I had sent off after this one had all been completed and returned already). The CRC team did a good job when it came to resolving the issue itself, but the fact that it took me to reach out and ask, (and PSA possibly not mentioning it at all if I didn't do so) along with these sorts of videos popping up more regularly leads me to thinking this is becoming much more prevalent than it used to be. I personally didn't believe it happens as much as people make it out to until it happened to me. People should definitely start scanning their items before sending them in, and also save the scans that PSA provide too.

At this point if those were my slabs I'd rather unlsab and binder them than try to sell them. Some buyers will be picky about that corner. Sorry this happened to you man :(

I’ve had cards sent in around the same cert number as yours and a few of my cards have that exact same thing on the exact same side as yours in the video. Not anywhere as expensive as your cards but yeah, I’m sure it’s not just us. A lot of ppl prob experienced the same issue.

Yeah this is my second or third time with type of issue but this is the first time over 25% of my submission got damaged. I looked past the handful of cards in the past but this was just too much.

That edge wear likely happened AFTER grading, and during the slabing process, so your cards were likely damaged AFTER the grading process. That amount of corner wear would have put your cards at an 8 or lower.

That is one of the points that I make in the video. From my experience these would never grade 9 as is. I don't believe that these cards would have been 9 without this damage as it would not make any sense when every single card receives the same damage and all grades 9. I have no tangible proof that they are damaging these cards but just slapping the 9s, just my own experience with grading.

@@EdisonSears SO that would mean your 10k card if a 10, was only a 9 to start with, and there is no compensation due to that lower grade. It was graded a 9, then damaged, thus never a 10 that was worth 10k. Of course, its no longer viable to crack out and resubmit. I think your big mistake was sending it in with a bulk order or economy pricing.

Wow, man. That's really unfortunate for you. The whole 'top right corner' issue has been happening for some time now. It has to be the encapsulation process. The upcharge situation you had to go through is unacceptable, too. Hope you get your due. Replacing those cards in the condition you sent them in now is damn near impossible.

yea i relabelled some cards at cgc from 9.5 to 10 labels and they damaged them. not sure i wanna collect graded anymore..

I had a recent sub have 19 cards with the same damage. The scummiest thing is that the cards aren't even 'true' 9s now. The graders are 100% seeing and knowing that PSA is responsible and are giving out 9s in the hope they don't draw attention to the damage. I refused to send my cards in and pushed like a biatch to get compensated. Managed to get my grading fees back as credit but it took some work and demands to speak to supervisors etc. My cards were probably all sub $500 in 10s, so I had less to loose and decided to flip them for raw values afterwards. Some were intended as collection pieces, but honestly just looking at them as after the whole circus pissed me off, so I sold them. Happy to pass on more details of my interactions with PSA if it's any help dude. Wouldn't recommend goving your cards back to them without some sort of timeframe guarantee though, because that's just going to make your loss stick around for MONTHS or years longer...

Yeah that is something that really pissed me off. These are not 9s by their own standards which makes me feel that they are just throwing these 9s on them when they realize they fucked the cards. I sadly have already shipped these cards back since this video was recorded a while ago. Hoping to get some momentum push from people talking about this and I will try and press them a bit more in emails. Saw someone mention in these comments that they've been waiting for 6 months though 😭

It sucks because the grading system is a scam on its own, even beyond this issue. The problem is that it's the only way to pull the proper value if you want to sell your card. You could send the same card 2 times and depending on the person, time of day, or day of week, your grade could come back 2 full values different. You could send a card 30 times. The first 29 times get a 9 and then the 30th time you get a 10. There isn't incentive to be consistent, because a 9 or 9.5 to 10 could be an increase in 95% value or more, so the person will send in again if they think it's a 10. That's just more profit for the grading company. Then on top of that, charging a premium for grading a card of a higher value is bs. The process to grade the card stays the same no matter the value. They just want a cut of the profits. The price to grade a card is already very high for what is being done. You also have the flipside where some companies will have a huge discount if you grade in bulk. Does this mean they aren't putting as much care into grading those cards? If that's the case, doesn't that discredit all grades that company has done to any card? Someone needs to take the grading world by storm and undercut what is being done. It will take time, but if you are charging half of what the other major companies are charging, it won't be long before a ton of graded cards from your company are in circulation and could eventually become the standard.

I got some cards I am personal attached to (experiences via friends) and was thinking grading it since could be in the in the mid thousand. But now I am just keep them raw safely stored by a case that I packed up myself. Not trusting any company do it for me nowadays.

I can’t even imagine that happening with a submission at that value! It’s like KZbin knew, I just was contacted by PSA about a damaged card. I was told mine damaged during its encapsulation. Yet to be known if that was the only card damaged. They are in transit back to me. I know PSA should handle every submission the same, no matter on the value. Although when they cause 30k+ in damage is completely unacceptable! Then you couple that with, they know they caused the 30k+ worth of damage and try to hide it….. To me that’s criminal!!!! Most likely it’s some kid did it and then hid it so they didn’t get fired. Or even worse they are in a foul mood and are not worried about the way they are handling our submissions!

I think I have had one card damaged in encapsulation which they reached out to about. The card got dented so they compensated the PSA 9 value as credit. Since then though, it seems that more and more people are just getting back these dinged cards with that right corner damaged and a PSA 9 label slapped on it. Very systemic problem at PSA for months now.

I think one of two things or possibly a combination of both is happening at these grading companies. I think the people that work for these companies are swapping higher grade cards or comics with some in their own collection and/or taking newer subbmitted cards or comics to replace ones they damaged, lost, or that were stolen while in their possession of another customers older submissions and they do the ol' switcheroo to get the older submissions off the books then they wait for other submissions to replace that persons items and its a never ending cycle/ponzi scheme. This makes sense, especially for the many i saw in this chat that have been waiting for months for their submissions to be returned.

Very unfortunate... Just wondering, did you submit the hexmanic in bulk? I am not sure, but I think for higher declared value cards, they will compensate more based on the declared value? But, anyways they messed all the cards and I really hope they resolve the issue.

Yes everything was at the same bulk tier. I do mention in the video that I spoke with the agent on the adjusted value for the card so I am hoping they will take that into account as they write in those emails something along the lines of understanding that submitters might not know the final value post grading. Just scummy for them to insure at declared value when it benefits theme and upcharge at their values.

You know what matters most? If a card is a hard 9 or 8 and they go ahead and damage it more it significantly drops the price yet again but they still label it a 9 or 8 prior to their damage. Grading is a scam, and probably the biggest of the past few years when it comes to TCG's. We have all seen 10's with crazy edge wear but we all look past it because it has a label that says "10". Take that card out of the slab and what do u have? Send it back in and see if u get the 10 again.. The worst part is no one knows if it's going to be normalized to grade a card or if it's just better to keep them ungraded. You're running a great risk unless ur grading to sell now.

This is a super shitty situation to be in and it's somewhat relatable to my last sub. I sent in a fairly expensive card (Victory Ring) and it returned with corner whitening in the same place as the ones in the vid. The silver lining is the card still received a PSA 10 despite the whitening. It's obvious PSA is consistently messing up somewhere in their grading process and damaging cards. I wish they'd be transparent about it.

They damaged my Tom Brady downtown and even sealed it with loose cardboard debris lol now they want to rehold it for free but observe it and see if the damage will affect the grade. I have a 9 but after the damage it’ll get a 7 probably 3rd time they have damaged my cards all 3 were downtowns

And this is the level of PSA as of today. And here is what burns me up - who else you going to use to grade Pokemon??? If you use any other company out there; good luck selling your cards; no one buys other than PSA or take a major loss selling @ a discount. But here is the kicker. Which location did this submission come out of??? I've gotten my subs back from NJ before and WHOA...it is the dumps!!! I'm afraid to send some of my high end cards in b/c of this; you will NEVER get justification on this issue. And again; here is what I hate the most...Who else you going to use??? CGC Pristines are fetching a good premium, but the problem is if you get a Gem Mint 10 you probably gimped the card's value (compared to PSA 10).

This sucks! I have about 100 cards or more that I want to send in and get graded, but I'm afraid this will happen to my cards as well. I have contemplated sending them to Beckett or CGC instead, but I have noticed the cards graded with PSA tend to sell for a bit more money. Regardless, this is unacceptable! I'm wondering if you filed a class action lawsuit against them for this crap and their grading upcharges instead of just grading the card as such no matter what it's worth. This is totally taking advantage of all of the people submitting cards!
