Those whom have never busted 80s wax & sets are probably unaware of how hard it is to get a 10. A decade ago I used to bust junk wax, vending & sets. Back then it was $6 to grade & on average you'd get nearly a grade higher. I'd send anything in at the time, when I found a common with 50/50 centering I'd send it in because you had a lot of registry set collectors back then. The real money was is player set collectors. When you got a gem mint on a rose or ryan, that was $50 unless it was an oddball like a topps sticker or something than they sky was the limit, one could get a hundred or two.

Another really cool order! Did you see that PSA is going to start to offer grader notes, but only for express orders? It would be nice if they’d offer notes on lower level orders. I don’t want to slow down PSA any more, but it would be really nice to have grader notes on some of those head scratchers.
@BaseballCollector3 ай бұрын
I did see that. I would expect that to trickle down to all levels eventually. They will kick the tires on it at the higher levels for a bit.

Just today I went through my 1984 tops set I've had since '86 maybe. Checking stars to see which ones made sense to send off. Boy was I pleasantly surprised when I got to the gwynn. I grew up in SD and had gotten his auto several times as a kid. I only had been able to find one, until I saw the most perfect signature on his '84 card that I must have put back in the set just to keep it complete. I about fell over when I saw it.

By the way if somebody b!tches about what you sent in screw them. I often send cards in not because I want the grade because I feel PSA are no more experts than me, but I want my cards in the best holder, at least better than a one touch. I enjoy the idea that I can take my cards into a bathtub if I so choose.

I just remember as a kid in the 80’s thinking how big of a man Andre Dawson was, and how he seemed like a guy that started out playing football but decided to finish his sports career as a baseball player. Him and Dave Winfield! Nice cards, again you make me feel good about collecting what you like to collect, regardless of dollar value and what’s popular. Go Rangers! Forget what Junk Wax Hero says about Druids and how they beat a Dallas team!

Mike, i couldn't agree more
@gradedcards55163 ай бұрын
obviously it has no bearing on the grades of cards just because they were pulled from the same set...it is ez to see the centering is bad on the 1984 Simmons, so the 7 fits...centering on the Herzog is much better, hence the 9...most of the cards could probably be bought raw for $1 or less, so why not get cards that are much better centered than these cards were? If you are going to pay $15 to get each card graded, why not send in cards that look to be 9 or better instead of pretty much knowing you are going to get a 7 or 8 due to the bad centering (and that is before the other 3 grading factors are figured in)?
@BaseballCollector3 ай бұрын
The time to find a better centered version is not worth it to me.

PSA is getting ridiculous with how they grade cards. The Steve Carlton “6” may be justified by how off center the card is. The higher the % off center the lower the grade even if everything else is perfect. For example, a 9 or 10 can’t be worse that 45% one side 55% the other ect ect…pSA use to be more forgiving in the past if the rest of the card was cherry but those days are long gone.
