Something I also look at when sending to grade (because I send a lot) is what the card looks like in a 9. Man whether it’s Beckett or CGC anything under a 10 just shoots way down. The “pristine” really is what puts those cards ahead. There isn’t a perfect comparison but I would argue CGC has the upper hand if you’re just comparing PSA 10 to CGC 10

Tons of nuances when it comes to analyzing sales data from auctions. I like how you mentioned that at the end. Often times as a seller I get messages from buyers asking for me to match last sold and I sometimes respond with I will match or beat lowest listed! Great video as always TTP!

PSA dosent offer anything above a mint 10 and charge you a wild price to grade. Where CGC offers a pristine grading for half the price. On top of all that if my card is flawless I’d want that to be recognized with a that pristine.

I think with modern having a higher population of 10's than Vintage, people will pay more for the CGC 10 Pristine with modern bc it adds another layer of rarity. But who knows, just my thoughts.

As someone that owns many cards from both companies. The pristine tens with the new gold logo just look better. The slabs take more space but the viewing window has more clarity I feel. I think the biggest factor, as far as price, is in the pop report. Hidden fates Charizard: 86 Pristines VS 6082 PSA 10.

Its goes, in this order of importance, BGS Black Label, CGC Pristine, BGS 10, PSA 10. Time will tell that this is true. Cgc is still the new guy into the market but theyre wildly smart for introducing their Gold Pristine. There was no market for something above a PSA 10 but lower than Black Label and the price differences were ridiculous. In five years nobody will remember the cgc debacle and introducing an entirely new label.

Other than the market for something above PSA 10 and below Black Label, they are also in the market for something above PSA 9 and below PSA 10, which only had Beckett as the sole player with their 9.5s. But Beckett’s trash anyway. They cant compete with CGC as the new emerging force.

Basically what I expected. Newer PSA certs hold a premium over CGC since PSA is now stricter on vintage (compared to older certs). For cards from newer sets, it is to get a PSA 10 but the more difficult CGC 10 Pristines hold the premium there. Nice comparison!

I think it really depends on the collector.. CGC is newer to the game and not well known to all people. So when compared to a company like PSA or even BGS. People might go for the more known company..

CGC Pristine 10 is a higher grade than PSA 10 so every card SHOULD cost more. The whole reason they re-did their grading scale was to "match PSA" so they also have a Gem Mint 10. In the video, you use at least one "Pristine 10" blue label as well which imho should be worth a LARGE premium as it was 1. On a stricter grading scale and 2. Is a no longer printed label which over time will become rarer and rarer. At the end of the day right now people still just throw money at PSA but i believe over time that will continue to change.

Nah cuh you cherry picking them sales. You need to do an average sale of the last 25-30 sales of each card to get a better pool average. You cherry picking certain sales is not an indicative of which company brings in more money.

But anyway top 10 I was looking at a first edition lugia from neo that was graded a cgc 10 and it was only like 13k compared to psa 10s being 33k or more I wanted to know what you thought about that it looked like a really old gcg slab or possibly a different company calling themselves cgc I wanted too see what you thought about that like would it be a great deal getting a cgc 10 lugia for 13k or should I probably just pass and stay away from it?

Definitely somewhat surprising but on the first 2 sales , both the higher bids have a lot more sales , so more people are seeing it most likely then the person who has 226 sales compared to someone with twice that. Just my observation

PSA literally gatekeeps their Vintage population, so it’ll be really hard for anyone to get another new 10s on vintage even if you just pulled your cards from a booster box. That’s why the prices of their vintage stuffs is that high. Meanwhile CGC is much more lenient for vintage so their vintage prices arent up there yet. But if you do ever have a good condition vintage cards to grade, they are your best choice since PSA will utterly destroy your Vintage cards with their hard-ass gate keeping. But to see that CGC Pristine 10 beats PSA’s 10s by quite a bit is surprising even for me who roots for CGC… I didnt expect they’d be that valuable this soon. A few months ago, people were still mocking CGC and wanking off PSA. As for CGC Gem Mint, I dont think it’s a fair comparison to PSA Gem Mint. I mean, yeah they call it gem mint, but as I have graded over 400 hundred cards recently with CGC new label and Psa combined, I can safely say that CGC Gem Mint is so much easier to get than PSA 10. Like, if you send cards that you are not confident to be 10s at PSA, you better send it to CGC because it’s much more likely to get that Gem Mint than with PSA. The prices also reflects on this as it is currently sits between PSA 9 and PSA 10. And that is actually fair given the standard that CGC demands for their Gem Mint. In the end it’s still not much different than BGS Gem Mint.

That wont actually be fair because Pristine 10 is CGC’s common (Non-Perfect/Black Label) Premium tier, while Gem Mint 10 is PSA’s Premium tier. So comparing the two is only fair. Gem Mint in CGC is only their 2nd tier, and is so much easier to get too I might add. Comparing it with PSA premium is not a good comparison.

Very good video. Cgc pristine 10s command a premium but yeah psa is king when it comes to older cards. Cgc pristine 10s are very difficult to get however. One thing to note is that prices fluctuating on a per sale basis the data provided here is just a very small sample size and there are variables that can cause prices to swing either way. I also cgc gem mint 10s will perform better in the long run because they are struggling against psa 10s currently....

What’s crazy is a CGC Perfect 10 Latias & Latios GX FA 170 selling for only around $2k at Herritage Auctions recently. I would’ve thought Perfect 10 is on par with black label and that card go for at least $5k.

@@MRkriegs CGC prestine 10 use to be comparable to BGS prestine 10 and CGC perfect 10 use to be comparable to BGS black label. Then CGC changed how they grade. Their 10s went from being really strong and more valuable than PSA 10s to now being worth significantly less. It looks like even their perfect 10 prices have been negatively impacted.

PSA 10 vs BGS 9.5 or 10 (not black label) would be interesting. I have some high quality cards which I want to grade. But I am not sure if I should go for a very likely PSA 10 or gamble on a getting a black label. For me it would be intersting to know how much I would lose by sending to BGS and NOT getting a black label.

sometimes PSA will give an off grade for 1 card in a submission, and people will re-submit and get a better grade, but if all 10 copies are 5 or 6, my best guess is those cards were all damaged the same way by the seller, you , or by PSA when they received them (which has happened many times). most easy misses on cards are imprints/impressions, tiny pin dots, or scuffs on surface, which will def bring the card down to the 5/6 area. I wouldn't be surprised if all 10 copies had the same exact damage.

There have been examples in the past of youtubers cracking their cards and resending them in for a higher grade, but his example seems too extreme. A 5 or 6 grade implies some sort of structural damage to the card and is pretty hard to mistaken.
