Ali Farag is one of the great ones. Even he got annoyed by the behaviour. Very, very happy to see him win. Thank you Ali for winning, hope you'll win the final :) Asal should get banned. Maybe a conduct stroke should later be reviewed and awarded with a handicap for the next game between those players, so i.e. Farag gets 3 points ahead each game next match. Something like that corrects behaviour quick I think.

Iam Egyptian and I want to explain something since I see this comment alot. You're right to find the crowd unbearable but the reason our crowd is that why is because most aren't really fans of the sport, they came just to support their friends/family Also another thing is that despite how dominant Egyptians are at Squash the fanbase for this sport is pretty new, so the culture of just supporting the game and interacting with an incredible play by a non-egyptian player doesn't exist yet I think it could take some time because people here aren't used to watching Squash or Tennis. And I'm sorry for anyone who's experience was spoiled by our crowd's behaviour

Actually I just wanna comment on a certain part which is the crowd, and what I’m gonna say is a continuation of what was mentioned in the comment above me. As a one who attended this tournament I gotta say there’s always applause for the other nationalities, and there’s always an interaction with any nice rally or a play, and u can feel and experience that especially when you’re attending it yourself among the crowd, and that was even noticed a lot in the tournament which was held in the pyramids area. but that doesn’t negate what was mentioned in the comment above me about the crowd, the family and the friends and the fan base of this sport, I just see it as a normal thing, just imagine ur son is the one who’s playing which player you’re gonna applause the most for? The opponent of ur son? Hahah , but of course against ur well if u saw an incredible rally, a specific play or acting of sportsmanship as what happened in this tournament a lot, you’d applause and cheer!! , I hope you all always have an amazing experience watching the championships in Egypt and watching those amazing athletes, and most importantly seeing all of you personally enjoying ur time here in Egypt one day soon 😄🇪🇬❤️

I think that being truly great at squash is more than winning matches -- it's about sportsmanship and integrity. This is why Shabana, Ashour, and Farag are beloved legends of the game. As they say, class is permanent. For example, can you imagine Shabana, Ashour or Farag criticising and mocking their opponent's coach after a match? And this is why Elshorbagy will never be on the same level as Shabana, Ashour or Farag - because he's never had their class. I hope talented young Mostafa Asal will learn how to be a champion from Shabana, Ashour and Farag rather than from the Elshorbagys.

I agree with you 100% about the article. But I don't think Shabana, Ashour or Farag would have responded like Elshorbagy did, because they've got class. I think you can see this with Asal and Farag in this match. Farag didn't rise to Asal's tactics, he stayed calm and focused on his squash. And afterwards, he was very respectful about his opponent, and even while he said he would have preferred more free flowing squash, he didn't make it an insult about Asal. To me, that's class - and it's why everyone loves Ali.

The more I enjoy playing squash and watching top-level games, the more I am appalled by some of the trends the game is going through such as players' antics on-court (sometimes verging on disrespect), regular and excessive issues with refereeing from both players, and public, polarized partisanship for or against some players (or nationalities) from the fans... It sometimes makes the matches unenjoyable for me, even such high-level games as those two semi-finals.

I don’t see much problem with the portion of the game presented in the highlights. With most of the incidents that Coll appeared angry about, he initiated his movement in the incorrect direction as Shorbagy delayed his stroke slightly then hit a very accurate shot, or positioned himself to cover a portion of the court that Shorbagy chose not to hit to, and had to run around. The ref. seemed to agree, and Coll, despite his anger, didn’t ask for a review. (Or lost the review).

“In terms of Mohamed [ElShorbagy], he could come out and have a brilliant day, but I don’t see it. To win a World Championship you are going to need to win four matches in a row and the way he is playing I don’t see him doing that as I just feel his level has dropped. Mohamed has made some mistakes in the last couple of years in terms of where he has gone and I think his movement has deteriorated. Personally, I think he has put too much emphasis on getting fitter rather than working on his technique and strategy while also making his movement smoother like I did with Paul." - Rob Owen (Coll's Coach) on Shorbagy

This tournament's early one-sided matches sure are over! These are the right four semifinalists for 2022. And they sure delivered here. Much though I'm a fan of gentlemanly squash and much though I hate this infantile shouting in the opponent's face garbage, my main takeaway here is it's great to see Mohamed playing at absolute top intensity again. He may still have it in him to be world #1, though these other three are tough obstacles. And yeah really sorry to see Asal lose, he's a fan favorite and I find it hard not to root for him every time. NOT

Just imagine, Asal has the most respect for Farag, and he STILL does his horrible antics when the game and match are on the line. Just imagine the level of crap that he does with players he has less respect for. Isn't it ironic how, basically, no one else has these type issues with each other. Its always Asal and... everyone else... I keep saying the same thing. The PSA is going to have a legal mess on their hands if Asal causes major injuries to another player. They will say that the PSA allowed an unsafe work environment to exist and, legally, they will have grounds for a BIG lawsuit.

Great that El Shorbagy isn't ready to lie down and sink into decline. Being dethroned from the top spot is inevitable in competitive sports eventually, but writing articles that seem to rub their diminishing dominance in an ex champions face is bound to be met with a strong reaction. Shorbagy was amped up by the article to respond aggressively to Colls celebrations. Hopefully Shorbagy remains ignited and keeps on fighting - he is so good to watch when he's genuinely motivated.

(Spoiler Alert) I'm actually very glad Farag won that match to challenge ElShorbagy in the finals. ElShorbagy needed to use his body and movement to take the match, but I'm convinced playing like that against Asal will end badly, and I do not want either of them to win after their terrible conduct in this tourney (more Asal). ElShorbagy has shown his fitness will come into question with harder matches, as seen this year, I'm convinced if it goes to 4 or 5 sets, Farag should be winning this.

Talking to myself here, but the PSA needs to watch out on the situation at 3:04 here. That one is clearly a stroke, but Shorbagy was given a couple of other strokes, including on a review, in this situation, and those were bad calls. Coll is hitting his shot from behind the service box and clearing backwards. Shorbagy is camping out next to him, well away from the T, to box him in if he hits a loose shot at all. There's plenty of room to go in front of Coll instead. He's playing the man.
