When I read through Psalm 111 again today, trying to find some inspiration for my little 'devotional,' my eyes and my mind stumbled for a moment on the word "studied." Do you see it in verse 2?
2 Great are the works of the Lord,
studied by all who delight in them.
It made me consider for a moment, what it means to study, and how unusual it seemed to me, for one to connect study with delight.
Oh, how I hated studying. If you're like me, the word conjures up memories of school. I remember it as an onerous, time-consuming, drudgery! It's associated with exams; with all-night cramming; and even a falling heart when I see my grade.
So how can study be a delight? Well, it's not that unusual to be obsessed with some topic or another. I remember a time when I was really interested in the Star Trek franchise! As a young man, I studied the associated lore with glee! In my delight, I collected the memorabilia, played the games, read the ship manuals, and stayed up all night recording episodes to the VCR.
What are you passionate about? Do you have a similar moment in your life when you studied a favourite topic?
Sadly, I hesitate to say that my passion of studying the works of the Lord matches my study of the works of James T Kirk, or Jean-Luc Picard!
Let's change our perspective on that right now! There is so much to delight in with regards to the works of the Lord! As the Psalmist reminds us, we can delight in God's provision, God's promises and most importantly, God's redemption of we, his people!
Holy, and awesome is his name!

Praise for God’s Wonderful Works
1 Praise the Lord!
I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart,
in the company of the upright, in the congregation.
2 Great are the works of the Lord,
studied by all who delight in them.
3 Full of honour and majesty is his work,
and his righteousness endures for ever.
4 He has gained renown by his wonderful deeds;
the Lord is gracious and merciful.
5 He provides food for those who fear him;
he is ever mindful of his covenant.
6 He has shown his people the power of his works,
in giving them the heritage of the nations.
7 The works of his hands are faithful and just;
all his precepts are trustworthy.
8 They are established for ever and ever,
to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.
9 He sent redemption to his people;
he has commanded his covenant for ever.
Holy and awesome is his name.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
all those who practise it have a good understanding.
His praise endures for ever.

Thank you Jason for all the songs of Psalms. I love all your work but this one and Psalm 132 are my absolute favorites. I've accepted the challenge laid out in William Law's A SERIOUS CALL TO A DEVOUT AHD HOLY LIFE to sing the Psalms. Law says the Psalms were meant to be sung not read so even in your devotional time you should sing them out loud. Your work has given me new insights into God's word in the Psalms.

Beautifully meditative and plaintive. Reminds me of the sung liturgy I grew up with. And the footage of the lake in the fall goes perfectly with the sound of the composition.

Thanks brother. You can see the contrast between our two songs is almost comical! Yours is wonderfully celebrative and uplifting! Mine is reflective, and as you've Said, almost plaintive. It's certainly more traditionally chant-like.
