Psalm 57 is a miktam which means in Hebrew "to engrave". In other words, David wants to engrave the truths about the Lord God in his heart expressed in this Psalm. This Psalm was written when David fled from Saul into the cave of Adullam so that he would not be found by Saul's men who were looking for him (1 Samuel 22)
Notice that David did not pray for vengeance against his enemies, but rather, he prayed for the Lord God to be exalted (Psalm 57:5) David's heart is steadfast in the Lord and he is determined to sing and give praise to the God; for God's love reaches to the heavens and His faithfulness reaches to the skies (Psalm 57:10)
