Wife: Why do you keep saying the speakers have “disappeared?” They’re right here in the middle of our goddamn living room!

I got my speakers to disappear. Then I realised the TV and the laptop had gone too.

I have an entry level system I would say, some recordings have the ability to make the speakers disappear, but most do not. I’m not convinced rearrangement of the chairs on the titanic will do much when the recording is not spot on.

The updated Audiophile's Guide needs a Lost&Found section and associated website for speakers that disappeared and are now on the loose

I do not see them in this video, but I know that he uses Vicoustic panels. They are probably on the ceiling and side walls, out of camera range. I do not know who manufactures the panels that we can see in this video. Note that Vicoustic does not stand by their product. I found this out first-hand, when my panels started falling from the ceiling and walls. It took me 2 years to get replacements. Microsoft sued Vicoustic (one of the Vicoustic employees told me on one of the phone calls). Vicoustic sold me expired glue. And when they finally sent me replacement panels, they sent more expired glue. My installer went to Home Depot and picked up a different brand that was fresh. It has been approximately 5 years, and no problems. The panels get the job done, as long as they don't come sailing down on your speakers, turntable, or head. Hearing the crash, while falling asleep in the bedroom, is unsettling.

I love active speakers. There are some cool controls on the back. HPF, LPF, gain etc. My wife didn't like the look of them. She researched acoustic transparent curtains.

My first house got robbed. They sifted through everything. Got jewelry, tv, liquor... even my alarm clock. They took the turntable but left the speakers and amp. That's when I knew I needed to up my game.

There is some joy in looking at your system when you play music but I find my brain quickly getting a sense of the sound coming from the two positions just by knowing they are there from seeing them. If I close my eyes I can avoid this sense of speaker location. A motorized curtain with acoustically transparent (as good as it can get) might be one way to deal with it. I have such curtain in my home theatre room which operates in either large TV or projector mode, where in the projector mode, the electrical curtain hides all the speakers and TV while the motorized screen moves down in front of it. Such curtains are common when doing professional blind testing of speakers during R&D. Our brain creates perceptions based on sensor fusion, so a topic is how to get the best total experience with best sound stage, resolving the details and also visually pleasing. I don't use such curtain in my listening room, but I'm considering it.

What an ugly room I mean the wall treatments in the back look like old wall heaters. The speakers look upside down. What a mess. Should have never sold the Enfinity's

Hopefully no one would build a listening room or equipment based on looks alone. 🙈
