PSB Century 500i Speakers Part 1

An initial look at these speakers, disassembly and my measurements taken.

This is absolutely fascinating. Can’t believe how high they’re playing the woofer. “Oh dear, that’s a bit naff” - literal LOL! 😂

Canadian, I have a set of Imagine X1T, very nice and capable pair of speakers for the price, the Americans absolutely love them, they are a second of of the NAD family and like most manufacturers of the time used mostly vifa drivers.

@@MrCitizenKaned I'm sure the tweeter is Vifa. I recognise the motor structure and font on the text used. The woofer I'm not so sure.

@@haycrossaudio5474 Yes the tweeter lookks like an vifa dt19d but the woofer is not like any vifa I have seen before, maybe a peerless but most likely an in house job considering the lack of any stickers or identifiers.

What measurement software and mic do you use?

Most of the time I use REW with a UMIK-2. All calibrated including the soundcard which sometimes gets ignored. I have a room treated for measurements to.

Can you mention the drivers manufacturers names when labeled or you just know from experience for us speaker geeks. 🤔

@@noah2765 no idea who makes the woofers. Tweeters are Vifa units.

@@rcp9763 REW. A calibrated UMIK-2 and Calibrated sound card. I also do all my measurement in a treated measurement space. When I can I measure outside

You could have done a little research about PSB and that model before shooting the video. Plenty of info available.

@@MODAC I could have done but it wouldn't really change my video other than knowing a bit more about PSB. Sometimes I prefer to go in blind rather than be familiar with a speaker 🤣

No doubtful with that value and first order. I don't know how the driver behaves yet so it might not have needed anything? I'm sure I'll be designing that in to the new Crossovers 🤔
