Tennessee vs Purdue THRILLING Ending | 2021 College Football

The 2021 Music City Bowl college football game between Tennessee and Purdue had an absolutely thrilling ending as Purdue won in overtime 48-45. Purdue scored a long 62 yard touchdown with five minutes left to take a 38-31 lead. Then on the next drive, Tennessee scored a touchdown with three minutes left to tie it up, in large part due to a 69 yard play. Purdue then scored another touchdown on a 70 yard pass to make it 45-38 with under three minutes left. Tennessee answered yet again, and tied the game up with under two minutes left at 45-45. Tennessee got a stop on the next drive, but missed a potential game winning 56 yard field goal. In overtime, Purdue stopped Tennessee on fourth down thanks to a controversial forward progress call on fourth and goal. Purdue then kicked the game winning field on their possession to win the 2021 Music City Bowl 48-45.

As a Vols fan, we can sit here and bitch about the final call in OT all day. But anybody that actually watched the whole game will agree that there were blown calls all day on both sides. The officiating was atrocious. But after all is said and done, Purdue is a hell of a ball team and I congratulate them on their win. Great job, and thanks for giving us all an exciting game. @@ShaneM223 ... Whistle does not matter, as was explained after. Once an official rules forward progress was stopped, whistle is meaningless. This isn't the first time this has happened. It happens all the time during a game and in how they spot the ball. It's only accentuated here because of the circumstance of the game and a potential TD, and fans crying about it, but it happens a lot during spots of the ball during a game. If fans are expecting officials to be perfect every time in a fast moving sport and match the fans' personal definition of what should be called, good luck with that.

I was at this game. One of the most exciting football games I've ever seen. I'm a Purdue fan and think it should have been a touchdown, but the UT fans were some of the most disrespectful fans I have ever seen in my life. It was an awful experience in that regard. Booing the drum line, booing injured players, threatening Purdue fans near me because they were cheering, throwing beer and hats throughout the game. I saw some great sportsmanship between the players, but the fans were awful.

The play in OT where they thought they should have had a touchdown was called correctly by the officials. The reason was there was another Tennessee player, #88, who was trying to pull the player with the football forward. (See the 5:55 mark of the video) That is not allowed. The forward progress stopped at that point short of the end zone.

It's kind of hypocritical, because several times runners got knocked backwards, but they never blew those plays dead & going backwards is the definition of forward progress stopped.

1. Obvious roughing the kicker on the last punt. If the officials were wanting purdue to win that would have been called. 2. The ot call was correct. The official ruled the play dead you can see him running into the field signaling the play dead before he blows the whistle and before the ball crosses the plane. 3. If the official didn't rule it dead (forward progress stopping), it would have been flagged on the lineman grabbing the runner pulling him into the end zone (no touchdown). 4. Even if it was ruled a td that doesn't mean purdue wouldn't have scored a td on the following drive. Ut lost the call on the field was likely correct. Get over it.

Anyone saying the refs screwed Tennessee must’ve missed the countless missed calls including a play where a Purdue receiver got two feet down called incomplete and several missed PI calls I was at this game and I can say the refs were awful but it went both ways it just happened that the Tennessee call was at the end of the game and not in the middle

Forward progress was clearly stopped and no longer advancing prior to reaching the ball out. Plus the Tennessee WR was clearly pulling the runner forward which is a penalty in itself and renders any argument mute. End of story! Purdue wins a great game!
