@@TheU.S. Thats because in situations like this Clemson changes its defensive scheme to prioritize burning the clock, not stopping the other team. They play very soft coverage and basically let the other team get easy completions underneath and drive down the field and score. They do this to avoid giving up the big play and to prevent quick scores so that the other team doesnt have time to win. That didnt really work in this case as SMU scored quickly anyway. Shoulda just kept playing defense the way they were in the first three quarters.

If they choose to eliminate SMU this year, Title games are more than likely to fall by the wayside in the future. The conference champion will simply be the team with the best record at the end of each season. Most everyone copied the SEC with their own Championship Games. Let's see how long these games will continue if SMU is booted out later today (pun intended). It was a great game to watch...just like the SEC game and the Big 10 Championships. Don't punish those that make it there with one or two losses.

It was their excuse when they moved TCU from #3 to #5 or 6 after beating Iowa State 55-3 (where in the 4th quarter, TCU 4th string players kept kneeling the ball down in the red zone instead of scoring on their multiple drives) and jumped Ohio State because OSU played a conference game (55-0) and the committee "justified" 55-0 was more impressive than 55-3, back when the fad was running the score up. The SEC abandoned their divisions when Alabama was left out of the 4 team playoff (when Saban went on his begging tour).

ALL IN, LETS GO TIGERS. Both of these teams are playoff teams. Clemson obviously, because they just beat one of the best teams in the entire country, but also SMU who took advantage of Clemson taking their foot off the gas, playing extremely conservative after taking a huge lead, and clawed their way back to within striking distance. This should have been a 40-7 game at half-time but Clemson didn't capitalize on some SMU mistakes. SMU then spent the last 2 quarters taking advantage of Clemson playing insanely conservative, but Clemson had ONE final drive in their pocket and a GREAT field goal kick. If the committee actually wants a list of the 12 most deserving and 12 best teams, SMU has to be included in that list of 12. Don't punish teams for making their conference championships, the precedent that would set would destroy the play-off before it has even begun. Teams who set their ass at home this weekend and got a free week of rest should not be ahead of teams that made their conference title games, regardless of the result. We are about to find out if the committee is filled with liars or if they will honor their word.

I think the issue is that we are acting as if all conferences are equal. SEC is 3x as hard as the ACC. "Conference Championship" has a different meaning depending on which conference you're talking about. These aren't equal playing fields, yet we're trying to make them so. BTW I'm not saying I'd put Bama in over SMU. But I'd probably put Ole Miss or South Carolina in over them. And if I'm being honest I'd bet on all 3 of those teams to beat SMU on a neutral field. Although admittedly I'd be less sure about Bama because of how inconsistent they've been this year. If you got the good Bama/Milroe then SMU would get beat by 40, the bad Bama and it's a close game.

As a clemson fan i enjoyed watching clemson's DBs give SMUs WRs 10 yard cushions so that they could drive down the field and score repeatedly in the 4th quarter. It was also nice of them to stop blitizing so that SMUs QB would have all the time he needs. Made it a more exciting game in the end.

Kalen Daboer is a first year head coach, and has tied the record for wins for every other 1st year Alabama head coach. He's also won his first Iron Bowl which is something not even Nick Saban nor Paul Bryant can say that they did. Clemson fan checking in. Our defense was gassed. They had been on the field the entire second half. After the injury to Haynes our offense became one dimensional. Mafah shoulder injury being much worse than anyone will admit. Add to that we are not that good in the red zone, no run game and a deep passing game typically doesn’t do well inside the 20. SMU would have won in overtime I have no doubt. The fact that we had the great return, completed that pass right where we needed to complete it and got that kick is insane. And for those that don’t follow Clemson, this kicker has been the worst we’ve had in the Dabo era. He’s had 5 blocked this year and missed about that many as well. I’m glad to see the young man redeem himself on such a big stage. Now we go to the playoff 🎉 where hopefully we can get a win or two.

Something I find so Crazy, and nobody has addressed, 2nd half Clemson vs SMU, SMU plays two qtrs running the same short pass skeems over & over gaining 10-15 yrds off these passes, while Clemson DB's lining up 8-10 yards off the line, yielding terrible DB coverage and Clemson NOT calling a single Defensive Timeout for adjustments. No major college team just goes play after play being beat down the field without adjusting! Had Clemson adjusted to address the DB coverage and brought the DBs up in tight coverage this game would NOT have even been close, definitely not a 3pt win! Watching game I was like, why, why, why isn't Clemson coaching adjusting?!? It just doesn't go like that! was it to Allow SMU to look better than they were looking for Playoff reasons! Did anyone else feel this way?!?

Think of the absolute bullshit precedent it would set to punish an 11-2 conference championship runner up, how it would completely eviscerate the value of making it to your conference championship, if this committee puts Bama, a team who is not even in the top 3 of their conference, in over SMU. They would Lose all credibilty. An 11-2 conference runner up who lost by a 56 yard field goal with 3 seconds left in the conference championship is a galaxy apart from a 9-3 conference troller who is tied for 4th place in their conf, and who sat on their ass on championship Saturday, who got their asses kicked by three teams with a combined 14 losses. Sorry Alabama. You are out! Better luck next year
