During the college basketball game between Villanova and Uconn, Uconn head coach Dan Hurley was given his second technical foul of the game and was ejected after he pumped up the crowd. Yes you read that right. He was given his first technical foul after passionately arguing about a missed call from an earlier play. After being given the technical foul, he turned the crowd behind him and pumped them up by swinging his arms. The refs did not like this and gave him another technical foul, which is an automatic ejection. Uconn leads Villanova 54-50 in the second half.

Yeah prob a little different there. Umps now have a lot of enforcement capabilities at little league games these days because of crazy parents. Courts have ruled that as such. In fact, an ump can kick you clear out of the ball park itself, not just “away from the field”. If you do not leave completely you can and will be arrested.

@@fitfogey Can confirm was working a little league game behind the plate by my self. Work and live in a small town and everybody knows everybody. This kid's dad was known for not being sober 99% of time whether it's drugs or alcohol. There was a grounder that went towards right field with a runner on first. The runner jumped over the ball (ball did not hit him). Runner was out at first by force and this dude had been screaming at me all day. I gave him his final warning (after like 5 warnings) after that stating "if you want to see your kid play the rest of year please shut up". Half inning goes by and he is still going and had come up to the fence. I throw him out and call the league president to have this situation taken care off. Parents gotta due better I understand wanting your kid to succeed but at the lower levels they're learning the game there are no scouts there or anything the most important thing for your child is to let them get a good experience and learn how to play the game correctly.

@@Chicago1234ish Well said fam. Sorry you had to deal with all of that. I’ve seen it before too. Some parents come to the ballpark blitzed when they get there or have it in their coolers and sneaky drinky all day basically. That just adds fuel to the fire. The helicopter mom/dad types are basically just as bad acting like their 12 year old is showcasing for a full D1 ride. It eventually got to the point where the courts/law did finally have to do something about it and it is fortunate that they did because things were really starting to get out of control.

When refs are out to prove they’re what’s most important. Ref should be held accountable. In no way should you T up a coach for getting his home crowd fired up. That’s a ref putting his ego before the game.

@10Lifer I’ve seen it happen. A ref called a technical on a home crowd after they chanted refs you suck. The ref originally threw out the head coach for bullshit reasons so the crowd got angry, and the ref was on a power trip handing out Ts.

Anybody that thinks the refs were wrong in ejecting the coach really do not understand how things can turn hostile on the referees. I was one for twenty years and I did not tolerate anyone including, the coach, the players, the ball boy, and especially the crowd. I might have emptied the arena and let the players continue their game. Of course I probably would never refed a game again because sports is about making revenue and not so much how the players, coaches, and fans react. Naismith would have been sad.... and so am I.

@@xoraclez Thanks for your response. I remember my father and mother telling me that they watched North Carolina verses Kansas in the 1957 Men's National Championship game. My parents are from North Carolina and obviously they root for the Tar Heels. I was just five years old when UNC won that 1957 Championship but I have been a faithful tarheel fan when I first heart UNC play on the radio and on the television. UNC went many years before winning another championship [1982 Michael Jordan] but since then we have won four more and let one slip away at the buzzer against Villanova. The reason I talk about the Tarheels is that they have been led but many great coaches who have class. Today, there are few programs that have class> That's important in any sport. I sure miss the good old days friend and I doubt we will ever see that again. In the last two days I've seen coaches fighting an, in this latest video, a coach so upset with the officials that he encouraged the fans to roar in unison as to embarrass the officials. It's not what it use to be and that is scary.

NCAA Basketball Rule book Section 10 addreses technical fouls. Section 10.5.1.c. says inciting undesirable crowd reaction is a technical. Rules are rules. Without them it's anarchy.

As a long-time die-hard SU fan, I would have paid big money to see Boeheim exhort the Dome crowd to get all over Timmy Higgins, who screwed SU every chance he got for years. This second technical was one for the books. At least, the self-important jerk who called it stopped short of demanding that the "courtroom be cleared" (of all the fans). He probably would have if he thought he could get away with it.

Absolutely warranted ejection there. Hurley hurt the referee's feelings, and that just can't be allowed. As we all know, people come to games for the referees, so they must be protected at all costs. A disgusting act by Dan Hurley.

There has got to be some sort of repercussions or system to keep refs accountable. By being a terrible ref making a call nothing to do with basketball and only to do with being insecure and power-hungry this ref has affected kids coaches fans and the integrity of the game all negatively. It's infuriating that refs don't answer to anyone but other refs.

I think that's a really good point. This was ridiculous. And you're right - it's like cops policing each other; it just leads to dismal screw ups like this. Let's face it - this ref called the second T for nothing but being a bit embarrassed that the crowd was with Hurley and getting pumped up. 2nd T = power trip, and that's never good.
