OMG ! I just moved here from Hawaii and it is so cold here! 49 degree water and the wind makes it unbearable to be outside . I go out to walk on the beach and after 15 min. I am back inside.I have taken underwater photos but only in 78 -80 degree water. Love all the birds here though and hoping to see some painted buntings in the spring . You guys get the award for braving that water to try the housing . Emilie you are bravest gal !

Thanks for watching and welcome to South Carolina! It definitely gets colder here. We were both in dry suits and had multiple layers on underneath so it kept us entirely warm during these outings and comfortable. No way we would go in the water that cold! Hope you enjoy the area, we'll be visiting Hawaii again ourselves in April!

Thank you for watching !! And welcome to South Carolina !! Where were you living in Hawaii? Definitely much much colder here !!! You should definitely start to see some painted buntings showing up around April! They are so very beautiful! And theres something about being at the beach that makes me forget about the cold 😂

@@EmmieOnTheRoad I was living in Kona on the Big Island .There are so many beautiful, endangered birds to get great photos of when you go. You will miss the whales as they leave by the first of March, but be sure you take your housing and go on the Manta snorkel . You will love it ( the water is about 76-80 degrees ) !

@@RayHennessy I forgot to ask about your recommendations for dealing with puff mud... We'd love to shoot in it, but we'd like to keep something on our feet in case we want to hit the oyster beds up the beach or walk around the forest at Mitchelville Park. Thanks again!

@@TheAndyTortoise we wear wetsuit booties that have rubber bottoms. They can get wet and fill with water but will protect your feet. In the cold this time of year however we have the dry suits on inside them so our feet don't get wet but in the summer we just let our feet get wet.

@@RayHennessy Awesome, Ray. Thanks! I heard you mention the wet suit booties in the podcast. That sounds like the way to go!
