Care for the emerald roach explained. size the enclosure up, this one is simply for display and explanation.
NOTE: When I say starter colony, I am referring to 30-40 roaches. if you have under 20, use a 1 gallon.

Recently, I've looking everywhere for content on these beautiful little guys- I love your centipede handling videos, I was super excited to see that you'd made a video on my current invert obsession! I never hear about these in the U.S!

Yeah they are just about non-existent in the US unfortunately, but through my breeding of them I'll change that soon👌I'm glad you are enjoying my content, I'll keep it coming! I got a big handling vid coming next week, the "how to handle a centipede Pt 3" is finally done, but I wanna release it just a little before a podcast I'm doing so everyone gets the word and can check out the interview if they'd like.

Thanks for the awesome, detailed video! I just found your channel. :) I am a roach person and centipedes are illegal to keep in my country but I'll definitely watch all your videos so I could admire them at least through the screen. :)

Great, thorough care guide, very well done! :D One amendment I would make though, is that for starter colonies, something like a gallon tub is more than big enough. They aren't huge roaches, so a 5 gal bin is a bit much for a small starter culture IMO, and they may actually have more trouble finding food in a large enclosure than a smaller one, (plus this seems to be a species that benefits from the allee effect). Definitely need to get my hands on a pair of this species, would love to keep and breed them myself.

Once I get some babies I'll get you hooked up, so stay tuned I'll make a video when they come👌 Also, When I referred to a starter colony I meant 30-40 roaches, that's what I typically start with when breeding roaches so I mentioned 5-10 gallon. If you only had 6-10 or less then yeah 1 gallon for sure. Thanks for the amendment regardless, I wasn't too clear in the video on what number of specimens deems it a starter colony.

@@thepurelife5876 Thanks so much man, I'd really appreciate that! 😁 Will definitely stay tuned, been watching all your recent vids. :) Ah OK, see when I think "starter culture" I assume people mean 8-12 roaches lol, that's what most people start out with (heck I often start cultures with half as much due to the species I like being finicky and people not having much to spare). Yeah 30-40 would be more than comfortable in a 5 gal bin lol, thanks for the correction!

These guys are really expensive from what I've seen though due to their beauty, which is why most people don't start with 30-40, no?

@@kryptonite754 My friend bought 5 of them (various sizes) last TER in Houten (Netherlands), they were 40 euro's (totall). They seemed to have dropped in price since last year. So I have high hopes they will not be too difficult to keep and breed. I was told they are particular to banana and red bellpepper/paprika.

Great video! My new scolopendra heros heros is coming in the mail soon and I was wondering what diet you recommend for this species. I’ve done my research but as you probably know it can be hard for beginners to find good information in this hobby.

Crickets, fruits, one every two months you could but optional and depending on size feed small lizards or a pinky mouse. Feed in a variety roaches, crickets, mealworms, ect. Mike can fix any info i got wrong

Make sure to gut load any crickets with fruit and veggies before feeling them to centipedes, crickets and mealworms are both rather low on the nutritional chart. They work, but aren't ideal. Roaches have a lot more nutrition, and keeping colonies can be entertaining. You also know where they've been and what kinda food they've been raised on, after all your animals food is one of the biggest aspects that determines max size, health and longevity.

These ventilation holes are way too big. Larvae will surely escape through this.

I do keep some, I focus on centipedes because they of course are my favorite animals but also because they are the category of invert that needs the most care correction online.
