This argument makes no sense to me, if anything this makes me think the current dev team is cutting back their resources on NGS to focus on a new "Super Game". If NGS is indeed the Super Game, why do all the song and dance of using a codeword for it when the game has been out for 4+ years? Why say "we invested X millions in the Super Game" instead of "we invested X millions in PSO2 NGS", again to me it just sounds like its an unnanounced game in the same "genre" as NGS made by the same dev team. Considering the state the game has been recently I am far more inclined to believe they are jumping ship to another, new game than keep the current thing running. I am really sad, PSO2 was my favorite MMO and I am crushed at the current state of things.

It's hard for me to consider it a Super Game. The game isn't really AAA at all, and the 600 staff members in that division could just be working on a new game while NGS is their side project. Also, I definitely recall Sega announcing that they were working on developing a Super Game after NGS was already released. My theory is that they are working on a PSO1 remake, which would make sense since it would be considered a legacy title. Believe me when I say that I hope for the best with this game, but it's really hard to come to conclusions with everything that's happened within the last few years.

I mean, PSO2 was the best MMO I ever played. But the NGS update broke me to the point I stopped playing. It was no fun anymore. I loved the idea of having a hub to get missions and whatnot. The open world felt dull and generic, if not almost a copy of genshin which as releasing at the time as well.

I agree.. The switch over from Base PSO2 to PSO2NGS proved to be unsuccessful. What point would there be for the devs to do something along the lines of PSO2NGS2 when the evidence for them has pointed to the fact that that would be a terrible idea. If anyone's seen the VIRTUA FIGHTER trailer, THAT'S THEIR SUPER GAME. The feedback they got from people reacting to the teaser means they will 100% go all in on investing to the game as a live service.

NSG isn't the Super Game. The first Super Game will release in 2026. I am very confident that the Super Game being worked on by the NGS division at SEGA is a brand new Phantasy Star game. I think PSO2 NGS is actually a testing ground for ideas. Seeing what works and what doesn't for the next step.

Well, I would love to believe this, but I have read the document and personally found too much that doesn't align with your take. I don't necessarily think looking at outside sources like their website when talking about info introduced in a investors document is a good idea generally (but I could be wrong). My issue with believing this is on Page 20 (36 bottom left corner) in a section titled "The most important thing is to make good games" where the COO said "Looking further ahead, we are also developing Super Game as a content/service that can be rolled out across a wide range of media, engaging a wide range of users globally. We are concentrating our resources, including human capital, and taking our time to work on this as an important strategy for building the pillars of long-term future growth." MY issue with this is that it's implying "Super Game" is a future development (meaning has not been made yet), so even if you can find evidence of NGS being defined as a super game, it's not in the context of the document that was announcing the 30 billion yen increase, which makes me doubtful even if i would like it to be true (also there are plenty of other mentions in the document, even the one kerropi read in the last video, which directly defines the super game being in development. "As for Super Game, we are developing it based on market conditions, our own strengths, and portfolio perspectives as a challenge to build a long-term growth pillar for SEGA in the future.") (Though I'm not a investor or a legal expert so my understanding is probably below normal with these kind of documents, I just wanted to look to judge for myself whether or not I believe this.) If someone who has more knowledge on these kind of documents can tell me if i messed up somewhere then I would gladly change my tune.

PSO2 was Sega's number 1 money maker for many years. In their last earnings report, NGS slipped to 2nd place. when they use the term "super game" theyre refering to a live service bread winner for the company like a Fortnite or GTA5. PSO2 is the closest thing they currently have to that.

I think you are misunderstanding the article Kero. 1. The article only speaks of these "super games" in the future tense. I.e. they are a "new frontier." The article never speaks of already existing super games that are in continuing development. 2. PSO2NGS doesn't match the qualifications because it is still just an expansion of PSO2(which does not qualify). It is not an entirely different or new game. 3. Sega has already teased some AAA titles for coming development- Sonic and Megaman. 4. If Phantasy Star is included in this development of super games, it is probably a development of PSO3, not NGS. ------ "4a": much of the player base has been asking for this for a long time anyway. For those of us who have been around since PSO1, NGS was a disappointment by almost every metric. 5. The fact that Sega decided to not develop any new story content for NGS for a whole year is clear evidence that this is not a AAA title, and not one of Sega's priorities. 6. It is likely that the cross-platform nature of NGS was simply a guinea pig used for the development of their actual super games. I'm still hoping that Sega assigns the Persona team to doing a REAL RPG for Phantasy Star. None of these Online games have ever had high quality story telling. The best of it was PSU and that was B- to A- based on the episode. I do agree that we should have had the entire first episode right out of the gate. It took them 2 years to get there. They probably should have just let us play PSO2 for a longer period of time before springing NGS on us.

@@lordbored7006 Agreed. The story is better done than the atrocious mess that was PSO2's story. Though I still think the flow between story and action isn't quite as smooth as in PSU. I do think we should be able to take our PLAYER friends into story segments though. The combat zones show they know how to juggle player+NPC they could easily have a 4 player party + NPCs in story content. And I still find it annoying that my character can look any fucking sort of way in cutscenes but they can't put the proper weaponry in my possession. I PERSONALLY think it should have RELEASED with a full episode of story and updated to the next version when they had another whole episode, with side plots revolving around expanding the open world and the main plot establishing OTHER worlds. The open world tends to feel smaller because it's static where as the previous games built a bunch of maps out of puzzle pieces. They also never should have done ships. They should have been super servers and housed the entire population instead of fragmenting it right out the gate.

The fact that a company has a product and can't even address it by its actual name in 82 pages should be clear enough. $200 million divided up by multiple games legacy and even NGS (if it is in fact the super game and this doesn't even make clear if there is only one super game or others too) is not a lot of money in gaming development. After they divvy it up between multiple games we take that number and divide by 3 since it's a three year cycle. This dollar amount probably just means NGS will have the doors open another 3 years at the minimum and none of this even explains if it's just an extension of the fumes NGS has already been running on or what the actual increase if any NGS would see. The pure fact that NGS itself is not even addressed in it's own paragraph in 82 pages should make it very clear the future of this basically dead game. If you search Phantasy Star in the document it comes up once just to mention on a timeline historical projects. Hopium is going hard here.

Although it would make sense that NGS needs more funding for a proper expansion, whether or not that is actually the case remains to be seen. Super game or not the dev team for NGS doesn't play the game at all. To be clear, I don't hate on NGS because I want to, I want it to be a really good game. I feel like they rarely learn from their mistakes and are intentionally making them. If the dev team did play their game they would see the issues and complaints players have with NGS. Personally, I see it like this: super games are a *new* initiative from sega, basically to release games at a level similar to other AAA developers. I think you are right that NGS matches what they describe as a super game, which is why division 3 is the best choice to head up the super game initiative. like they said, division 3 is more familiar with cross platform and cross region development. However, i think NGS was probably cooking *before* super games were totally settled as the vision, and that NGS likely proved out many if the concepts behind a super game developed by sega. I would love it if NGS got more love, but my hunch is that it's more like NGS has given them valuable learnings that will inform future games that are in pre-release development now.

Here since day 1 as well, there has also been too much disappointment that there is already no hope unless they just 'do it'. development, development sure they fixed a lot of quality of life that could've been in the first few months but still delayed it for like 3 years(talking about pse). this is just one out of many others. Anyway, I am free from this game. it was a good banger open world in the first few months where there was a lot of players. good memories. for me it was deaded unless they actually released a huge season(New World Map) or something.

tldr; it’s hard to form a conclusion on how SEGA will fund NGS in the future from the information provided because there’s too little evidence connecting NGS and their “super games” or “legacy IPs”. we have to wait and see. it’s hard to see the connection between the descriptions in the article and PSO2NGS, yes you could fit the game under their definitions, but that doesn’t mean they’re talking about NGS especially when they never mention it in the article or in their latest financial reports. the question is why SEGA wouldn’t already establish NGS as a super game by now instead of broadly describing what they going to develop if they already have a super game. also the article was taken from an interview in October 2023, so who knows what remains relevant today. my bet is that they’re gonna allocate a tiny tiny amount of the new funding investing into NGS, because the game didn’t reach much success but they would want to continue to make some amount of money from it. I don’t think they would want to put millions more into a declining game, rather than just making a new game, even in another IP. I would rather have PSO3 than more funding into NGS, but I doubt we’ll see anything PSO3 until the end of the decade.

There's plenty of content. It's just that it doesn't really MATTER how many bosses or areas it has. We'll mop the floor with any new content in hours flat. PSO only had 4 areas and 4 bosses. People worship that game like it's a Masterpiece around here. We got way more content than that, but while they were content on grinding it out 1000000 times for years till the next 4 areas came out in a paid for expansion, that model doesn't work anymore because there is more choice. My suggestion, go make that choice.

And many on going live service game have the same problem which is how to attract new player while the game still going on. D2, FFXIV, WOW, Warframe and so much more still struggle abit here. So let see i guess what they come out with. Even if they gotta rebrand or do PSO3 i dont mind if the game / series become good.

My personal opinion is all of that money isn't going to be just NGS. As Sonic Rumble is going from iOS to steam maybe console which is a live service game. So yes I do believe a portion is going to NGS because collaborations aren't cheap. But, it does sound like multiple things are being worked on.

While I agree there are still some problems, the game mechanics, graphic, character customization and environment alone makes this game a triple A for me. Come on, this game have an immense potential and plays very well. As an old time gamer that played many games, it is undeniably a high quality game, solving the issues is all it needs to be super!

I get it, y’all trying to say PSO:NGS isn’t doing so well financially speaking but to say it isn’t being included within the 30 mil budget is just being delusional. Even if the game isn’t doing so great and not getting a full 30 mil budget increase solely for it; I believe sega will still give the NGS team enough of a budget to keep the ball rolling for a while longer. We all know it will inevitably have a successor. People need to just chill out and quit being such negative nancies! All Kero is saying is that NGS is part of the projects that includes 30 mil yen is all.

Watch next year roadmap -it went from each month having content to Jan/Feb , March/April and now the Road map for 2025 is going to be Jan/Feb/March 😂

I'd like to believe you're right but I'm sticking with my gut at remaining skeptical. They'd have to do another re-launch/re-brand like rebirth to garner enough attention to justify their sunken costs and they already tried that with NGS version 2 and they fell flat on their face with that. I think they're just trying again fresh with a new IP or a PSO3 behind closed doors.

Until they specifically state otherwise… it really seems like a whole new game is in the works. NGS has been getting barebones in terms of what Sega wants to do with it and has only gotten worse over the years . Personally, I feel that the Super Games title is reserved for their successful classic games that are getting reboots, PSO2 could’ve barely fit into that category, but it wasnt mentioned and even through the mess that needs to be interpreted… they still didnt mention PSO2 and they did seem like it was alluding to potentially a whole new PSO/Remake; which I would give all my cosmetics up to just play that if it comes down to it, because… and I know this hard for you to believe, but we are tired of the GACHA, limited content loops with less meaningful rewards. It is totally copium, but I get it… it’s your content baby and you like many others spend thousands of dollars on the game, so you dont want it to “die”. That’s why we should be standing against or rather boycott games that are like this, because it is predatory on a financial level and it should be illegal imo.

The game isn't super at all. It's so bad, the items I get from the tickets feel like spam I can't be bothered to use them anymore. (Great, more stuff I can't sell) very spammy items very crappy. Event missions? Psh I'll pass on pressing buttons with my eyes closed, and what are they going to give me, a halphanale? Maybe 2/10 times. Oh and remember what I said about the halphanale prices? Check them now, from 1 million to what? 😆 🤣. Even if they get funded they going to run it into the ground because they still have trash ideas 🗑 🚮 😂

I enjoy this game despite it's complications, it's alive and supported and I'm glad for that, even if it could be supported better. My problem is mostly with the player base. People say a lot of toxic things in central aelio, to the point where I use retem as my home city just to stay away. The other thing is the player economy. Meseta is incredibly difficult to farm (on purpose I'm sure) and the prices in the personal shop disgust me. Greedy af.

Not gonna lie. It does kind of seem like you're reaching with this video. NGS is without a doubt a "super game," but I think the third division are for the most part, working on "new" projects. I hope that whatever amount that's being allocated towards NGS goes towards a proper expansion or even PSO3. I haven't played since last december, so i dont know how far behind i am story wise, but isn't the max level getting close to 100? Maybe once it gets to that point, some parts of the story will receive closure, leading it to some big revelation. A New New Genesis. New main characters, NPCs, sysems, zones, classes. The difference being as vast as how base was to NGS or Episode 1 to 2 in PSO1. Wishful thinking.
