PSP 1000 Internal HDMI and IPS Mod

Always wanted to play PSP on the big screen? Using an modified 2k model, 3k model, or Go too simple for you? Don't want to use an emulator rendered at your big screen's native resolution? Why not crack open your 1k so you can add video out in the form of HDMI and run games on real hardware!
CFW not required for mod functionality but after removing the UMD to fit the HDMI board, you'll probably want it so you can continue to play games.

As mentioned in the video, both mods are stand alone but can be made to work together. Per the manufacturer, the ribbon cable should be fixed on all new kits as of the end of October (2023). This fix should allow full compatibility of the HDMI kit with the IPS screens. Otherwise the IPS screens and HDMI kits both are fully compatible stand alone.
After getting HDMI output working, why not also add external controls too? The following mod is intended for PSP 2k models but the button code should work as is and the joystick code can probably be modified to work with minimal changes if it doesn't just work out of the box.

Recently, I also changed the screen in my PSP Fat, which I have had since about 2005 (I bought it in Poland), I got a screen from aliexpress, for about $ 12 (I would prefer the same site as yours, but the cost with delivery to Poland is $ 60) . I will not forget that, of course, I messed it up when soldering, it's good that a friend of mine knows it, he repaired my console and there is an image, in general, after assembling the screen and assembling the whole thing, I noticed that the right D-pad button sometimes "presses" or doesn't work at all, only then after sticking a piece of tape under the cross on the right side it somehow works (let's say 90% of cases), why does this happen?

I saw these pop up a couple months ago on AliExpress, was curious about them. Sent Tito an email about them, glad you’re doing one of these. Was the brightness/contrast an issue with the kit?

Looks nice but it annoys me too much, that the displays sits a bit too far up. a few lines are cut + one black bar on the bottom

That's an "easy" fix where you bridge two solder points on the board. The downside is they're so tiny it's not really easy if you're inexperienced. Pretty sure it's mentioned in the aliexpress product info.

I'm not sure if it's a problem of the mobo or not but I just swapped my PSP screen for an IPS as well and seem to have the same problem as you did. I tried shorting every pin before soldering and didn't manage to make it work. Mind my mobo wasn't that good but it's the same as the one you show on the vid and didn't manage to make it work. Seeing everyone on r/PSP showcasing their IPS panels without the crop fucking sucks, but at least I'm not alone on this one. Might end up returning the IPS panel if I don't see much of a difference or just experimenting on some cheap working PSP I find around on the internet.

If you're using a compatible board revision, I suggest you double check your work under a microscope. If you're not using a compatible board revision... well, get a compatible board revision.

I remember your first video on the IPS psp screen mod, I was curious and the kit was cheap so despite your warning I installed it and 100% agree with you it wasn't worth it lol. It's like there's a color bit depth or screen color space mismatch or sumthin

Yeah, it's fine IMO, just not really worthwhile considering the price and effort of installation.

Do you always use a knife-point tip on your iron? I always use a pencil tip but good God it's hard to get the actual end of the tip to heat solder and get it to flow properly. I may just need new tips.

Knife tip has large surface area which allows for better heat transfer for most joints. It's pointy too so I can get it in tight spots (albeit without being able to make use of all the surface area). Rounded tips have a smaller contact patch and thus have slower heat transfer.

no, those consoles already support video out natively. It's not HDMI but component. But again, it's just built into the hardware.

PSPs have terrible power management. Sony made stupid decisions on how the batteries work and as a result, every single cell, both OEM and aftermarket, will just die on its own whether you use it or not. All because Sony put a microcontroller inside the battery that talks to the PSP mechacon and that microcontroller is always powered. It's literally inside the battery casing so you cannot work around this by just removing the battery from the console. It's hardly baseless.
