Paul and Shannon the lanyard doesn't hook into the metal. It hooks into the ball itself that the LOL dolls come in. If you look at the top of the ball. There is a hole and that is for the lanyard to hook into. It's so you can display it or hang it. Or just carry it around with you. It's kind of like the handles that would come on the LOL surprise doll balls from the other series.

You're supposed to put the necklace string on the colored part of the ball and for the picture one, you get your own string to put it through the hole. It shows in the instructions and I show it because I unboxed one of the land L.O.L.'s on my channel, called Jaden Bear. BTW, all of the L.O.L.'s in that series have been re-released with a twist, but Sync Swimma is the only brand new L.O.L.. Another BTW, In Sync was from the lights series and Soul Babe was from the under wraps series. I like Surfer Babe the best.
