@NuntiusLegis10 жыл бұрын
I find this orignal version more interesting than the graphically enhanced, hi res versions using Glidos etc., and I don't know if it is just nostalgia. Somehow the rough graphics make it look more organic, more atmospheric, more mysterious. Also the colors are more vibrant, everything looks more crisp. The "enhanced" versions look too clean, too blurry, too washed out, too tamed. Perhaps simple textures without shaders etc. look better in low res than in hi res.

The mansion in the original looks more realistic, whereas the remake has too many shadows, dark rooms, cinematic thunder through the windows. That's what makes the original more scarier because the horror lurks in the most pleasant houses.

GT6SuzukaTimeTrials I think thats the reason why I feel like I have lost my passion and excitement for gaming over the past decade. When I was growing up, every year had noticeable evolution in terms of graphics and new gameplay experiences. There were also lots of games. For me personally, it peaked in the mid to late 90s with the PS1 and N64. Now it feels like everything is just a blockbuster huge budget shooter. I have actually stared to embrace indie games on Steam and the Playstation network. This has helped rekindle some of the excitement from my childhood.

Even today you may look at this game, and you can see poor graphics, but what a gameplay! This Lara Croft was the best and I think will be, just like Silent Hill 1 and 1 just like resident evil 1 and 2. I still got PS1 and time from time I turn it on to play Need for speed 2 and NFS4. Novadays they make games with very detailed and good looking graphics, but gameplay is crapy. You won't get such a lot of fun as from games of the 90's era.
@ZygonCannar9 жыл бұрын
+jascivious What a gameplay? Seriously, have you seen how this game controls? This guy is an expert of the early series it looks like, and he's still caught fumbling around trying to grab ledges and pick up items.
@jascivious9 жыл бұрын
ZygonCannar It's not a bug it's a feature.
@ZygonCannar9 жыл бұрын
No. The controls in Resident Evil are a feature because it helps the Survivor Horror genre. The controls of a Platformer like tomb raider are one of the MOST IMPORTANT things to get smooth and responsive. Megaman Series, Mario 64, Super Meat Boy. These games all have cult followings for their tight, responsive controls. Tomb Raider's controls being trash are not a 'feature' because it doesn't do anything for the game except make it frustrating.
@jascivious9 жыл бұрын
ZygonCannar frustration is a feature :) Just like edging or ruined orgasm.
@ZygonCannar9 жыл бұрын
Frustration is a feature when it's a design choice. Frustration in this game doesn't do anything for the design of the game. The puzzles are supposed to be the challenge, not the controls. It doesn't do anything for the game so it's a flaw, not a feature.

@MrShawno12319 жыл бұрын
+Steven Rhoten Why do old-school fans hate the Tomb Raider: Reboot? 1. It's poorly written, in addition to being tired and cliché. 2. Annoying set-pieces take away interactivity. 3. The hand-holding is absurd and in addition should not have a place in a Tomb Raider game. 4 . It has a tacked on RPG system that is not needed. 5. Levels are mostly linearised or progressed in a linear fashion whether you're being pointed in a direction or going through one-way progression corridors. 6. Generic uninspired cover-shooting mechanics. 7. The A.I. is not challenging. (Survivor mode, doesn't change NPC's overall difficulty.) 8. Modern triple: "A." tropes akin from Far-Cry, Assassin's Creed, The Last of Us and Uncharted. 9. Exploration comprised of collectibles instead of anything of real interest or value to explore. (No secrets, again every-thing is either simply pointed out to you or is designed in such a way that does not require any experimentation to find them.) 10. The puzzle solutions are either too obvious, lacking in mechanical depth or are progressed in similar fashion to that of the last. Clearly we're simply stuck in the past, it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Crystal does not know what they're doing with this franchise.
@stevenrhoten21789 жыл бұрын
+MrShawno1231 did you copy and paste that? anyway, the reboots may not be as challenging but they are still fun to play.
@MrShawno12319 жыл бұрын
+Steven Rhoten Then call it a new game, they might as well being as the core game-play has been reduced to that of an average cover-shooter with little to no vertical freedom and zero emphasis on any REAL plat-forming. It's like if I brought a game of chess, I shouldn't be expected to play checkers. In addition to this, I find it sad that the originals games by Core Designs offered more complex level design with no hand-holding whatsoever, so what changed? Why all of the sudden does nearly every game on the market need to employ all this hand-holding bullshit? (I mean for fuck sake its literally relentless in the reboot, the final boss if you can even call it that has a tutorial where some obnoxious contextual pops-up telling you how dodging works!?) It's simply a pure insult to anyone who played the originals games, not only that, the focus on story for this reboot is superfluous and does more to harm interactivity than it does succeed in telling an engaging story that isn't, so far up its own fucking ass...
@stevenrhoten21789 жыл бұрын
+MrShawno1231 i know what you mean. games these days are simply easier than they used to be I guess. it makes me think back to the old Mario bros or sonic the hedgehog games. those games were challenging! kids back then could beat current games with their eyes closed.
@civoreb8 жыл бұрын
+MrShawno1231 I never found the old one difficult. Well one aspect of it was. That was when walls and cliffs blend in because of graphical limitations. The new ones are just catered to a newer audience. They move with the times.

@fluffylovey9 жыл бұрын
As much as I love this series, I've never played this first one until today. I just couldn't get very far at all because oh god the controllers are hideous. I mean, the concept of how she moves is really good for tight ledges and so on but did anyone else find it awfully stiff? Like, the d-pad really felt stiff and horrible. I tested the controller out on spyro to see if it was damaged but spyro was very rsponsive and fast. Is it just a common thing with the game as a whole or do I have a slightly jacked version? Also lack of a soundtrack really bothers me x.x

Do you guys realise that the corpses of the enemies killed in TR 96, does not disappear? Well Tomb Raider 2013 does. Hah!
@Time_Line_Archive_Project8 жыл бұрын
people have pc's with minumum 8gig ram some even upwards of 16gig yet developers can not program modern games that leave corpses or decals - they bang on about realism yet we have vanishing bodies and vanishing decals - next gen? yeah right!
@ahall98396 жыл бұрын
And then you realize there's more polygons in a single enemy now then there were in an entire ps1 game... while running at 60 fps instead of 5. And that fact bodies that sit in one place forever are just as unrealistic - if not more - than those that disappear. And the fact that it actually takes an extra step to program something to disappear instead of not, it's not like they "can not program" it, the whole point is now they understand they need to conserve resources efficiently.

You're not a true retrogamer, emulatorist, only true Playstation consoles, only hardcore!

Come now, emulator or not doesn't make you more or less of a gamer.

GamerGirlsNetwork If you knew anything about modding and playing from CD-Rs, you woudn't write this comment.

You're absolutely right. My po int is that there ARE cases when the footage recorded from an emulator looks not as geniune as one recorded even from a CD-R.

+eklipsegirl You do realise that classic games like these are not exactly cheap and much harder to find so perhaps you should eat your own words and choke on them or perhaps you should provide the games to the uploader or better yet MAKE YOUR OWN LETS PLAY SERIES

Is the framerate making anyone else sick? I could only watch about 1 min of gameplay before I had to stop watching.

I won all the main Tomb Raider games (1996-2016), except the mobile versions. I saw Lara grow on to what she become now. And I like it. True, the old games are a masterpiece in itself, I had a wonderfull yet frustrating time with them. But I must say that I like the new Tomb Raider more, because I now can see Lara in a different way, when she started the whole "tomb raider" thing. I'm hopping that Cristal Dynamics gradually makes Lara a "badass" as she was in the original games but with the "human side" that she has now, specially with her athletic jumping skills... lol

The game is so beautiful that I want to give nettles to the nettles to those who complain about old times, as if now you can not experience all that ardor from shooting eyes, and passionate plunderer of Lara's tombs and hearts. Well, a little nostalgia and play, at the same time can look at my passing. I'll take charge of Lady Croft one day.

Honestly, I kinda wish they hadn't remade this game. However, both were just awesome, and I'd give all I could just to play this entire series once again

32.20 I remember playing this with my best friend when we were eleven, when that t-rex came out of the darkness and the music started we were completely terrified. Watching this video is so nostalgic...
