Just the 1st 10 seconds alone makes me want to replay "The World's Wildest Police Chases" and also reminisce about a time when 20th Century Studios and Disney only had a few things in common from 1996 til 20th's acquisition by Disney in 2019.. And that's airing 20th shows like NYPD Blue, Murder One, Modern Family, and Dharma & Gregg on the Disney owned ABC (post 1996.)

In my opinion, this game is really underrated. Once you get used to the controls, it's a very fun experience overall. I like the variety and "colorfulness" of the different environments, especially.

+thepirategamerboy12 That's the problem with the game and it's sequel though, Floaty controls and a camera that fights you. Two things you Do not want in a platformer. Among hitboxes and other things.

Kat Clairmont I respect your opinion. I've honestly never had a problem with tank controls in games like this, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, etc. The main thing going for Croc is that it's probably one of the first games I had ever played and actually have early memories of playing. I still do enjoy it to this day, though. I've never played the 2nd game.

I like Croc, dun get me wrong. I played it from both Emulator/And Playstation Underground, It just felt that way to me. Also I like RE/SH and other tank control games - like Dino Crisis - and others. (>*-*

This game was enough to prepare me for the 3D platforming world of video games. Croc is the Training Wheels of 3D Platforming ^^ Real Talk tho I wouldn't be able to figure out half of this game's secrets without consulting a guide, fast-forward 20 years later. Back in the day you have to converge with the kids in the playground just to get game secrets like this /laughs!

This was meant to be a Yoshi game that would've predated Mario 64, had Nintendo not stabbed Argonaut Games in the back. And it certainly still shows, as Croc and his mechanics, groundpound etc, all resemble Yoshi's. Playing Yoshi on a quest to save his adopted Baby Mario Bros., was the original plot, before changed to Croc on a quest to save his Gobbo family.

Oh I adored this game. Played it all the time and completed it several times. It was my second ps1 game as a kid, after Crash Bandicoot. My older cousin gave me her copy and I was hooked. Revisiting it, I noticed how flawed the controls are but you don't really think of that stuff as a kid; at least, I always assumed it just must be challenging to me. The colorful and fun designs still hold up though, and especially the music! So fun!! (I also couldn't understand that the friends you are saving were the Gobbos, so as a young child I called them "Fuzz buddies" lol

It should really be mentioned that this game has the same flawed movement controls as Bubsy 3D with the tank control platforming just with the ability to attack and the camera not being annoying with jumping. I do remember finding this annoying to control when I was a child and it looks equally as bad still.

I own both Croc: Legend of Gobbos and Bubsy 3D, and while both Croc and Bubsy do have tank controls, Croc maneuvers are less grating and more fluid than that Bubsy, plus Croc can flip 90 degrees in the opposite direction by merely pressing the circle button. Also Bubsy 3D's camera shift downward when jumping is intentional, the game designers added it to make it easier to land on platformers, much like Jumping Flash! did a year prior. It certainly does making on platformers and enemies easier, at the cost of disorienting players. In my opinion, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos bigger problem is a very few platform segments aren't really built with Croc's controls (although to be fair, this is not very common) a lack of a brief invincibility phase when hurt, and some of worst designed mini-game mechanics are more pressing issue than the controls.
