Psychopathy is not an official diagnosis but refers to a combination of behavioral traits including antisocial behavior, “callousness,” and low levels of empathy and interpersonal emotions. People whose behavior mostly falls under antisocial tendencies are instead diagnosed with sociopathy - officially antisocial personality disorder. So here are a few signs to look out for.

Yes, I do know of a guy who showed most of the traits listed here. He is apathetic, denies responsibilities, denies about his mistakes and blames others instead, acts impulsively and can be very lovely and friendly to people that he can leverage from. It is a good thing that he had moved out as he is a true piece of work.

A true psychopath is a sea of chaos in your life they come in like a storm destroy everything and then move on once they are board or simply found their next curiosity without caring that they might have made you homeless and no remose your kid died because they stole your identity and you lost your house stability livelihood and couldnt get your kid some surgery or meds so they died as a direct result. AND NOT BAT AN EYE. What you described is an immature manchild Not a psychopath.

@@jakeogden2072 well thats... specific. I'm friends with a psychopath. Yes he is a these things. No I dont give into these tricks. Yes he found it frustrating. But people can heal from bei5 these awful waves of destruction. Yes I have seen my friend abuse kindness in others to get attention and money and all sorts of things. I have warned the people he befriends and dates. Nobody ever listens but it's their mistake for not noticing the red flags. I offer my friend a safe place to go and rant to. To allow himself to let loose amd be creative and unrealistic. No I dont give into it. I just listen. So I have been placed as his best friend. I suggest if you ever meet one. Judt reflect how they treat you or act. I stopped caring. It's not bad. it's not mean. I'm just saying. If you domt care then I dont. He picked up on it. Now he doesn't try to do any of thos stuff. I'm just someone who has his back someone who listens and may not agree all the time, and offers advice. Psychopaths are not people you want to have an emotional relationship with. They will use it as a weapon against you. Sorry you had to see the bad side of them. It's not always their fault.

Thanks! I have a partner like this for 25 yrs he will not go for help. I don’t like living alone with him. He’s 68 and I’m 71. I don’t know what to do he says I need to say he’s right and our lives will be good. That’s not normal! I’m losing confidence in myself for being constantly telling me I do everything wrong and say is wrong to anyone even my children. He does not even had 1 child so he has no clue about raising children. He says the smartest person on this planet. I need help. 😢

I'm really sorry to hear that you're going through such a tough time with your partner. It's important to remember that you deserve to be in a healthy and supportive relationship. It can be incredibly challenging when a partner refuses to seek help or acknowledge their behavior. You're absolutely right that constantly feeling criticized and invalidated is not normal or healthy in a relationship. It's essential to prioritize your own mental and emotional well-being. Here are a few steps you might consider: Reach Out to a Professional: Consider speaking with a therapist or counselor who can provide guidance and support for you, either individually or as a couple if your partner is willing. Talk to Trusted Friends or Family: Confide in people you trust about your situation. They may offer valuable insights, emotional support, or even a safe place to stay if you need it. Set Boundaries: Make it clear to your partner that you won't tolerate disrespectful behavior. Boundaries can be an essential part of maintaining your own self-respect. Consider Your Options: Think about what you want for your future and whether staying in the relationship is in your best interest. Sometimes, making tough decisions for your own happiness is necessary. Self-Care: Prioritize self-care and activities that boost your self-confidence and well-being. Remember that you don't have to go through this alone. Seeking help and support is a positive step towards regaining your confidence and improving your overall quality of life. If you ever feel unsafe or threatened, please don't hesitate to reach out to local authorities or organizations that can provide assistance and protection.

I want to, but my brain is wired differently. I have to constantly analyse the situation, and predict how a normal person would behave, and behave accordingly. It's not fun. hey , im both a psychopath and a malignant narcissist and yes there are some differences. in the behaviour the only difference is probably violende : since with narcissism ur purpose is being admired you dont use violence usually . most of the differences are in the cognitive causes, like the narcissists can feel emotions and empathy to a certain extent , while the psychopaths cant , also narcissists are motivated by a desire of general popularity and being liked and they would do anyrhing to achieve it , while psychopaths value more the practicale rewards like money , sex , dopamine etc , so their actions can be violent and make them look bad in other people's eyes , making their previous interaction clearly fake. while narcissist would do anything to keep the mask

I am like the total opposite of a psychopath, which isn't good either. I care so much that it's very difficult for me to even hear about atrocities happening to other people. I care about the lives of complete strangers as well as my loved ones. I also care a lot about where other people are coming from and why because I find it very motivating to learn about other people's perspectives on various topics. Why is that? I don't know; I'm not entirely sure why. Also, if I learn that I accidentally hurt someone else's feelings, I feel so guilty about it that I can't sleep well, I eat too much, and am an emotional train wreck until it gets resolved, which isn't healthy either. Since most people are not like that, the level of understanding that anyone I tell this to is almost nonexistent. It's very difficult to cope with, and the majority of people don't understand it, unfortunately.

I admire you for being able to display so much care for people, however-sorry for the slight guilt trip-but if you got sick your friends and family would be worried. You are confusing psychopathy and sociopathy in some of these symptoms. While the literature constantly flip flop on which is what, one lacks natural empathy the other has learned to suppress their empathy, usually due to environmental factors. These can be things like growing up around criminals or in dysfunctional families. The difference is that the ones lacking natural empathy cannot learn it, while the ones that learned to suppress it can unlearn it if the conditions that reinforce it change.

Psychopaths lack remorse, when comfronted with things they've done wrong, they may blame you. Why? Because they probably won't take the time to think through how placing the blame in you will make you feel the same way they do at the moment. Instead, they use you as a scapegoat in an attempt to relieve the discomfort & anger they are experiencing.

I have actually seeked treatment for theese problems, and I am way better now, It makes me so happy when channles like you talk about theese things, and it truely means a lot to me, Thank you. In my case I was always the happy one, but I would always try to start some type of drama. I was starting to realize that I really did not care about…pretty much anything, at my grandfathers funeral it was just a normal day for me, I was Even walking around telling jokes. As a 11 year old………. I Even started to make fun of the other people in my class who where crying for hours because the same happend to them. Looking back at it now, I am really happy my parents got me help, and I am very thankful for that❤ There was one thing you didnt mention though, People become diffrent, less worth. Like your life matters so much more, the others Are Dirty, Filthy and disgusting. I am better. At least thats what I thought. My biggest problem was when I got bored, I would do some really, really bad things when I got bored. I remember being outside the school, Thinking of something to do. I was throwing rocks around, and suddenly I saw a bird flying around the Windows outside my classroom, I grabbed a rock and threw it at the bird, I missed but scared the bird and it went flying right into the window. Falling down, my classroom was more than 5 meters over the ground so the bird fell HARD down at the hard ground, I started to poke it with a stick as a teacher saw it and told me to leave it alone. Lucky for me She didnt see what I did. When I did bad things, I never had a real reason. Only this, My own Entertainment. It was really the ONLY thing I cared about. Again, I did Seek help and I am better now. Thank you psych2go for talking about this❤❤❤

I live with a psychopath (my brother) and is horrible. He lies constantly, steals money from the family, he treated our diseased grandmother like nothing, would literraly never speak to her, treat her EVERYDAY of her last days alive like she was INVISIBLE. She recently passed away, detail: he took her retirement bank cards and took a loan on her account without telling anyone. When she passed he didnt even went to her funeral and then changed hes profile picture to a grief image so people will be comforting him as if he EVER cared about her. My mom always protects him because he always plays victim saying hes depressed, he keeps manipulating her feelings and NEVER helps around on the house, he's 30 years old unemployed and refuses to ever leave the house. I AM DEVASTATED. I've been feeling so sad and infuriated, when I saw my nan on the coffin I screamed and cried...my mom doesn't allow me to tell anyone about this... I honestly don't know what else to do... He also owes me money, I borrowed him 4k over 2 years ago and he just keep making up excuses to pay me back. We have been living in the same house without speaking FOR MONTHS.

Psychopathy is an interesting phenomenon, and not one I see often day to day. I've heard, however, that psychopaths can make surprisingly good medical professionals of all things. Their lack of empathy helps give them better clarity of mind when dealing with people who are badly injured, severely ill, or otherwise in great pain or suffering. Because they don't feel particularly compelled to comfort their patients, they're more likely to undertake the treatment those patients need than they are to try and comfort them, and may handle constant exposure to others' pain and suffering much better than someone emotionally normal. Because they care about their paycheck, which is directly tied to their patients' wellbeing, they have proper motivation to look after their patients, while their lack of empathy allows them to do so more easily.

Cognitive Empathy is a great tool for those with ASPD, however, it requires patience with yourself and others, and even explaining it to those in your intimate circles so they can also help especially during times of conflict. It's really hard not to fall back on old ways, especially if you do bear responsibility for a transgression. That being said, those with ASPD can be perfectly fine people, with the right treatment and strategies. They just have to make it their personal goal to be more mindful of others. Also, keep in mind, that we use anti-social mechanics in our civilization at large to ensure the function of society; such as the ungodly large military industrial complex that exerts force and influence at large that keeps people economically tied to the US, and therefore our prices competitive. War is inherently antisocial, but it's literally a lever to make sure (US society, at least) functions.

My supposed friend from last school year matched the majority of these signs. I don’t want to expose her or call her out so I’ll just call her May. She often accused me in front of our group of friends, repeatedly no matter what I did. She would always find ways to get everyone on her side and even booted a girl from our group. When she kicked the girl out, everyone shrugged it off except for me. I decided to teach her a lesson, but I don’t want to speak of it. Long story short, she had ended up cussing at me threatening to kill everyone and herself. Also, she had a best friend/ backup for her plans, I’ll call her Tammy. Tammy would stick by May’s side because she was afraid of her making everyone turn against her, resulting in Tammy laying back letting people get bullied at May’s hands. I left about two weeks ago without saying anything to anyone. May texted me on zoom and gave me a whole apology essay. This isn’t the first time, here’s an example of the cycle: Bully, Plead for me not to leave, I stay, and rinse and repeat. I didn’t reply and blocked her. May would always say that she wasn’t accusing me or someone else and insist that she was just ‘Gathering Evidence.’ She was manipulative, an example of when I was first joining the group and she was on thin ice with the group. She manipulated me into being on her side and defend her. Now I realize that she was trying to manipulate me in a failed attempt in booting me out. She also would pretend to be dark and mysterious, posting weird song lyrics, and complain about her life. In all honesty, she was a bit strange and that should’ve been the first sign. Overall, I really hope she isn’t a psychopath, I feel bad for her and wish she carries on with life becoming a better person.

I do not understand human emotions so if someone come over crying I will talk with them but I won't comfort them. I can rationally and logically look into their situation and look for errors. Tfw in childhood you've been abused so much by someone like this, that you've adopted of their tactics just to keep yourself content, and keep danger or stress away. I'm doing better now, but don't fault a child for behaving in such a way, it really could just be them repeating their parent(s). Simply telling a child "no" won't make them stop if you've given no reason as to why they need to consider others when getting their needs. A child using manipulation as a defense tactic will take you as a threat to their own safety and wellbeing, instead show that child you will care and be there for them even when they do not ask, tell them you love and appreciate them. God knows the love I received from my mom helped me keep my head through awful trauma, even if she is far from perfect. Remember that there's always an other side to the coin, consider the events of what has happened to make someone behave in that way. You do not need to heal them, or even interact with them. Just keep your knowledge in the back of your mind to make sure you can help someone who isn't too far gone, and to make those feeling like monsters feel human. Shit uh- i gotta say something funny... I’m not here to see if I’ve met any psychopaths, I’m just here to see if I could be one myself. Don’t be concerned I’m not insane. Just curious. Edit: good news. I’m not a psychopath! Of course this is NOT for actual use of diagnosis, but I used this as a guideline for the base of it. But don’t bother with this comment, I’m just talking to myself at this point.

Gotta admit he is pretty cute tho.

I grew up in a household for 7-8 and half years straight now and I'm almost 18 yrs old. I basically I had to deal with my mom's boyfriend each day. He has undiagnosed bipolar disorder which explains 2 signs from the list. Everytime he just looks for a reason to get mad and then makes us miserable for the fun of it because he isn't happy. I thought "this is absolutely ridiculous, crazy, why can't he just go get help if he thinks he doesn't need it". It's basically him thinking help is petty when all he does is disrespect but not only me and my mom, others too. It's that attitude problem I don't really enjoy being around. Next thing I know him going around blaming my mom for giving him the silent treatment from a couple weeks ago now. I feel like every time my mom wants to date someone It's like a former drug user or someone with a mental disorder. I definitely experience his constant mood swings as well. There was a couple points where he'd be charming and sexual which creeped me out entirely. Sometimes he'll blame me for sitting around and doing nothing. He barely did nothing when he never had a job for 4 or 3 months after he was fired from the last one. How I was thinking this, he basically does a lot everything wrong since in his opinion he thinks he's better than everyone. That was also a big lead to why he barely operates well in life too. He doesn't care about daily stuff but drinking alcohol all the time and smoking weed. So if he wanted another gf or at least gotten better help for once. He could've gotten friends.

As you mentioned in the beginning… psychopathy is not a mental disorder, but you categorise them as such at the end of the video. Very consistent… Anyways, as we know from the scientific literature: psychopaths are risk averse and less likely to be intoxicated while committing criminal acts, rather they are completely focused, so they can calculate carefully each and every detail to avoid getting caught. Impulsive behaviour best describes sociopathy and other cluster B personality traits, without excluding psychopaths when it comes to pleasure and excitement (like spending money, having many sexual encounters..). The core definition of psychopathy and its traits include solely the inability to care and experience 5 negative emotions (at least as high as the average person), therefore we call psychopathy (Factor 1 or primary psychopathy) the interpersonal affective facet, comparing to factor 2 (the sociopaths) which are called the lifestyle antisocial, due to their strongest relationship with the disorder. 🤓

Even the DSM is just a tool. Formal diagnoses can vary significantly at the individual level. Not to mention the fact co-morbidity can be a factor too with abnormal psychology. Often terms and theory within psychology attempt to capture a significant amount of the variability by certain factors, but often observable features/traits can fall outside of these explanations. Human psychology is complex, particularly within the social context.

@@pirahnalasagne yes totally agree! It’s a goal to include more traits and sub categories to the existing DSM so it becomes more inclusive for constructs that need treatment and they are not captured in the current version, such as vulnerable narcissism etc. I don’t see psychopathy being part of it though, primary psychopaths are functioning and successful in work or other environments, while also they are desirable for high leadership positions and others because of their “stress immunity”.

@@Psych2go Thanks for asking. Well, my only two options are to let this family member (my sister, who lives overseas) be sole executor or have an attorney handle the estate, which would be costly. Neither option is desirable, but I don’t have the luxury of choice. All I want is for the estate to be executed according to my father’s wishes without any family drama. The problem is that my sister doesn’t trust me, which is a supreme irony given her conduct over the years.

I guess it doesn´t matter if you call them psychopaths, narcissists or something else, all that matters is that they don´t feel the need to care about someone who can´t stand them, as if that means that person is unable to love others.

NO. There's a difference between all of them. Narcissists are self-centered, for the narcissist manipulating or hurting others, are ultimately geared towards the ego and the expansion of self-importance whereas Pcychopath suffers from psychopathy ,a genetic or inherited condition, notably related to the underdevelopment of parts of the brain responsible for emotional regulation and impulse control. Please don't use these words interchangeably if you don't know the meaning 🙏

I would definitely say the most of these traits matches my unfortunate encounter with such a kind of person. Being impulsive and constantly returning with different temporary masks might describe this psychopath, capable to blame me for having accepted to be supportive by lending money. Irresponsibility is undoubtedly the keyword here which I would rather use to describe my interactions with such a person.
