It is amazing to me that Michael wanted this dreamlike scene in the middle, the whole cast of dancers improvising(as far as I know) in a music video!!! Who did this? Only MJ! His artistry was beyond pop culture.

After MJ did Motown 25 and moonwalked for the first time, Fred Astaire called him dance personified and handed the baton to Michael. This Smooth Criminal video was actually an ode to him, from Astaire’s movie “The Band Wagon”. Love your beautifully insightful reaction as always!

I have been a MJ fan since he first came on the scene as a child. It was obvious he was beyond talented and gifted rising to a higher plane than anyone that came before. So glad to see you react to him. One of his backup dancers once said that even if you were deaf and couldn't hear the music, you could "see" the music flowing through his body. So true! I love your peaceful and beautiful corner. You are the only female reactor I watch or subscribe to. I appreciate your intelligence, musical appreciation, and attention to detail. Keep up the great work🌹

Hello my dearest Harriet - every time I read your comments, they bring me to my knees and I want to cry 😥 - you are so beautiful in 'speech' - it shows just how beautiful a soul you have. You take great care and pay attention to details, which is so key to understanding things which you undoubtedly do. I thank you for that. It has been quite tough my end with this and sometimes I feel like giving up because YT make it so difficult. If only they could see how the audience are receptive. Anyhow, I'll keep going. I genuinely do care about tings Harriett - thank you for seeing that. May you be bestowed with a shower of blessings - thank you for being 'my' stabiliser. Psyche xxx ❤️🙋🏽♀️🙏🏽🌹

@@psycheinc-theSLC thank you for your kind words. May I ask the reason YT makes things difficult? Are your reactions being blocked? Very frustrating! If so, perhaps pausing the video frequently is sometimes all it takes. That and reducing the size of the video screen could solve most of the difficulties if that is your main issue. I hope you persevere as you are a breath of fresh air and a welcome addition to YT🎶❣️👏👏👏🌹

@@harrietmiller3982 Hello Harriet - I hope you had a great day. Thank you for your reply. I have had problems with Bruno Mars/Grammy's. I requested that I show two different performances of his it and they got slapped down in a flash. It wasn't for public view so no one saw it , hence to me I hadn't caused a violation - I was merely awaiting approval but it just went to 2 strikes. They say on the account for 3 months. If you get 3 then that's it. (I will delete this after you have read it ). Yet other people are showing the same content. The only difference I can see is that they all have thousands of subscribers, so maybe my channel is too small and maybe they don't like that. Also you can't get to talk to anyone about it so it's frustrating to know exactly what the problem is. I don't think it's because I'm not pausing enough s they don't even watch it. Very strange. Yet they let me show Leave The Door Open as soon as it came out, but to be fair that wasn't the Grammy's. I have another channel which I will be resurrecting soon. I've had such a good response to this channel. But thank you for caring enough to ask - really kind Harriet. x 🌹🙋🏽♀️🙏🏽

@@psycheinc-theSLC I don't know why YT and different artists are so worried about music being played. It drives traffic and causes no harm in my eyes. Yes your channel is still small and has not yet hit a tipping point that attracts more attention and subscribers. Once you reach a certain number, it really starts climbing fast. I know a lot of start up you tubers have relied on really popular artists to attract the fan base to build their own numbers. Michael Jackson is one of those that will bring eyes. If you select live clips from his world tours, they are rarely blocked. Another loyal fan base that will catch attention if you react to Stevie Ray Vaughan, a blues/rock guitarist that has no equal. He was lost in a helicopter crash in 1990 but he still attracts fans today in ever increasing numbers. Select any of his 1989 Austin City Limits performances or 1989 Presidential Inauguration performances. So much more to sample but I promise he will blow you away and attract eyes. Please persevere and don't give up. You are a breath of fresh air🌹

@@harrietmiller3982 Thank you so much Harriet for taking the time, trouble and for supporting me - it is so invaluable to me - you have no idea x. Yes you are right. At the end of February I was on 20 subscribers now it's pas6 600 so that's good. Watch time is creeping up too. If I manage to hit the target there is no guarantee that I will get into the YUT programme because of the slaps I've had from them, but that doesn't concern me for now, I just want to hit the target as one has to start from scratch again which would be soul destroying! Thanks also for doing us tonight. It may be one, two three or none but I'll keep going until it's so many, it's like one big party! Have a blessed evening my lovely. p.s. were you asking me or Michael where he was from? xxx

I love the music videos back then. MJ's videos were like short films always. Madonna's too. They really knew how to use the music video medium to get themselves and their music across. I feel Janet has that down too, especially her stuff released in the 80s and 90s when the music videos were still about actual storylines. I miss those days. So often these days music videos say nothing to me and it's not like they always have to, but I think there's an opportunity lost there. A great video can enhance a song a lot but I guess there's just less ways to get them played, it's all online now. Back then it was MTV, all the other music oriented channels, and also regular programs on tv where videos were launched. Then again, if one knows how music videos are made, usually record company paid them (at least back then) and then that money was sucked back from the sales of the song/album. I guess the landscape has changed quite a bit in that regard, record companies don't invest as much on music videos and artists need to find alternative ways to pay the making of their videos. And of course, with the rundown of MTV, the way videos are released and shown etc has also changed. Plus, sales are counted differently these days, so much focus is on streaming which isn't as profitable as back in the days of vinyl and other physical formats.

Talking about Fred Astaire, this clip is based upon the play in the musical The Band Wagon with Astaire and Cyd Charisse. In this play the dancers perform similar dance moves as in this clip. Clearly dance moves were added here, but it is a nice hommage to this movie.
