Dr. Nishizawa sounds he was the kind of mental health professional I would like to become, an admirable person who had a positive impact on many lives. Rest In peace to those who passed.

Thats good, unfortunately there are always some who are in it for the money and rely on the patient not getting better because it serves as a perpetual source of income for them. We all like to think that every medical professional is like you. But we know that’s not the case. There will always be those who are in it for the money.

The end really broke my heart. Dr. Nishizawa sounds like such a heart warming, amazing person who helped so many lives. It is evident especially since his sister even decided to follow in his footsteps after his passing. It saddens and angers me how some evil monster is capable of taking so many innocent, impactful life.

The attack that was said to maybe have inspired him, the Kyoto animation studio.. I have a friend that works in EMS who is from Kyoto and friends with many people that were there that day. He says it’s so traumatising to try and rescue people while you realise it’s an attack on innocent people and many of them are already long gone by the time you get to them in a fire. He says fires are ruthless.

Even an ordinary house fire can kill all inhabitants within a minute or two. This is without an accelerant. The speed of which this fire took over would have been insane. Those people never stood a chance. These old buildings sound like complete fire hazards. When she described the layout with no windows or alternative exits away from the main entrance, straight away I knew that there would be no survivors. 😔

This is so sad. I’m so glad Stephanie took the time to talk about the doctor and his legacy. It makes me so angry and sad that such a person who did so much for so many was taken just like that. It’s so incredibly selfish to harm innocent ppl because you can’t come to term with your own reality. Mental health is a tough battle sometimes. I get that. sometime you are trapped in your own mind, but to choose to bring down “as many ppl as you can with you” when they literally did nothing but trying to help you is so selfish and cowardice. Even in death you can’t face yourself alone, just like how you can’t face your own life and decisions when you’re alive. You harm innocent ppl bc you have no one else to blame but yourself and you’re too cowardice to face that. I can sympathize with feeling alone and hopeless but it’s just plain evil and selfish to turn that into an excuse to harm others. How many more ppl could the doctor have saved if he was alive? In a world that desperately needs peace, you choose to target the one place desperate ppl come to find it. UGH I haven’t cried so much listening to story in a while. It’s just such a senseless act happened to such kind ppl.

Everything that stephanie shares really hits my soul, she just doesnt tell you a story, she puts her heart onto that story and tell it to you with a very strong emotions. I felt the pain stabbing onto my chest every single time she tells a devastating story, I really admire that strength of yours stephanie ❤️. about the case, all I can say is life might be hard but the thought of giving up and thinking that "oh this is the same people who are living the same miserable life as I do thats why theyre here, let me help them" in a way of taking their lives just to justify that your action is right, but in the end of the day people are forced to move on and grieve about what happened without being able to do somethinh about it. I just hope it gets better and people just live differently... Loneliness might be one of the contribution, but let us remember the reason why some people are lonely, its because they deserve it. Please if a person opens a door for you to step into their home, do not take advantage of it. If you really want a good life for yourself... please build good and safe connection for everyone to be in.

this case is honestly heartbreaking, to think about all the people who were in that fire and all the families who suffered for there lost is just heart wrenching. bless that doctors heart it’s really sad he passed away, he seemed like the type of person who would have done anything to help others put others life before his own, as a person who struggles with mental health and depression and self harm, having a good doctor, psychiatrist or even a therapist can make a huge impact. so I feel so much for the patients and losing there support system because I lost my support system. i feel terrible for all of them, it’s very sad none of them ever got closure.

I’ve heard about the Kyoto animation studio fire, and what's even more chilling that the person who started the fire claimed that the studio had stolen his work. And quite honestly for someone in the the anime industry who holds a lot of animosity against an animation studio in Kyoto it's quite chilling and scary at the same time, and working in the anime and manga industry can be quite scary place, and I know, it even happens a lot even in the U.S.😢 But for someone to burn down a psychiatrist clinic, that's also chilling.😬

I usually don’t leave comments but this story touched my heart and also I deal with stressful and mental issues of life. It’s very important to get help we need to stop dismissing the stress and mental illness and get help. This continues to be over looked and mental disorders and depression continue to grow and we have the worst mental health crisis. If we ever want to get back to functioning and thrive in the world…. We need more doctors like this man was he was truly trying No ,No actually helping so many people. This is so sad cause so many doctors are quick to write a prescription and no care about what’s going on in your mind, but he truly cared but just couldn’t reach this one individual. I just want to let everyone know pls there’s help and don’t be afraid to get help. This is the way. 😮😅my god receive all the people that died in to the kingdom of heaven and May the grievance on the families pass with ease Amen 🙏

Another wonderful job Ms. Soo! Thank you! & YES PLEASE to the Kyoto animation studio massacre. Aloha!💜🤙🏻💙🤟🏻💜 P.S. Unfortunately, Japan has issues with what we would term "shut-ins." They want human connection, but at the same time, run from it also. Or ~ they don't know HOW to connect with others.... ESPECIALLY in this "Amazon"-age where everything can be delivered to your door.... & it has only worsened w/the pandemic & ppl working from home. Thank you for your consideration [in all of your cases] for those with mental health struggles & bringing mental well-being into the conversation. I L💜VE that you talked about therapy too ["paid-sponsorship" aside! You always choose the BEST sponsors for your cases, helping to destigmatize therapy & taking care of one's mental health is SOOOOOOOOO VERY IMPORTANT!] Mahalo Nui Loa for ALL YOU DO!!

As far as the trama to the sons head goes, the fact he survived probably meant he missed the suture lines, curotic and jugular, assuming he missed the eyes he probably has scars that will fade with time but at most would need mild to moderate plastic surgery to cover up the scars but that’s more a personal choice than medically necessary. Just remember scalp wounds bleed very heavily but are “normally” not life threatening. Keep in mind this is assuming that the blade did “not” pierce the skull and enter into the brain cavity. If so, depending on the reagen of the brain that was damaged could lead to life long mental problems. Ie- memory/ behavioral issues aside from the trauma of the attack. But it sounds like it completely missed the corpus colosum which controls all autonomic functions ie- breathing/ heart rate Sorry for the spelling, don’t have my medical dictionary in front of me

His way of killing himself and killing as many people as possible with him is probably his sick way of finally not being alone, and the clinic staff along with other clients being the only people/place in which he feels connected to was the perfect target for him. I'm in the healthcare profession and I haven't heard of any doctor being sincerely concerned about their patients like doctor nishizawa. Being a mental healthcare professional is one of the hardest profession. I'm happy to know how much doctor nishizawa has helped his patients. May all the victims rest in peace. ❤

A neighbors apartment in my complex had a fire just down the hall. They fell asleep while cooking food on all 4 of the stove burners. I woke up to the sound of 8 fire trucks surrounding our building. The good thing is that the fire suppression sprinklers in the kitchen did its job well. The fire was out before the 2 minutes that it took fire the fire department to get here. The fire didn't spread and was only contained to the kitchen in the apartment it started in. All I knew at first was "Grab my cat, and he get out!" !I exited my apartment with my husband and our cat. Handsome firemen asked us to go back in, and he was correct. Our apartment doors are well sealed and didn't let the massive amount of burnt food smells come in. It was choking strong, and it was food smoke that I was unable to breathe or see through. I can't imagine how horrible these poor people had to breathe in burning plastic and burning furniture would be. That's more deadly and more toxic than the burning food smoke. The burning food smoke was going to make me unable to breathe. That's why the fire department asked all residents to stay in our apartments. The fire suppression sprinklers are in all apartments and in all the hallways, including in the stairways. My 🙏🏻🙏🏼🙏🏽🙏🏿 go out to the victims and their families.

I've been living in Osaka since 2017, struggling with my mental and working schedule was all over the place. Right before the incident happened, one of my coworkers gave me Dr Nishizawa's 名刺(I don't know what it called in English, it's a card that has name, business name, phone number and address etc on it) and told me if there's a doctor that could really help me, that doctor was him. I was so ready to go see him I took my paid day off. Then I saw his name on the news... I went there anyway, everyone there were so heartbroken and they looked lost. Since the moment I heard about him from my coworker I've never heard anything bad, he was truly an Angel.

People who let him walk after 5 years with no evaluation have blood on their hands. People who blame others for their unhappiness, who never take responsibility - they are unable to change. Self reflection is vital element of empathy, of being a decent human being. There's a pattern in people who are perpetrators in these stories, be it remorseless drunk drivers and mass killers - they lack ability to self reflect, to blame themselves for anything.

I actually got to go stay part of the summer in Osaka I believe. It was really wonderful. I got lost so many times during that trip and people would help me out as best as they could. I was just a kid then but people seem to appreciate the fact that I was using Japanese when asking them questions (this was like 20 years ago I was eight or nine) after a while all of the shop owners just kind of knew me even the pet store because I would go in there just for the heck of it. When my mom went out with me once to go someplace she was surprised at the fact that as I would be walking past adults who worked at various businesses would just kind of come stand in the doorway and way that be and always be polite it never seemed like it was creepy or intent it was just look at this cute little american girl trying her hardest to speak Japanese because she's in Japan. She's being such a little sweetheart it just trying to absorb or cold sore as much as she can and they loved it. To this day I have ill will toward my brother for making us had to cut our trip early... He wasn't enjoying himself and made it everybody else's problem. that's why I was out wandering around Japan by myself at eight or nine years old to begin with... My oldest brother was 16 so he got to stay (my stepfather was working there and in his employment contract it said it they were going to have him away from home for over for months, they would pay to relocate the family there too(not lavishly... It was 7 of us in a 1 bedroom apt. But it was still an exceptional experience that I am so glad I got to have.) We were supposed to stay the whole summer. The middle child was it enjoying himself like the rest of us were and tried to make everybody else miserable even when we went to Japanese Disney. What kinda asshole do you have to be to not enjoy Disneyland??!? For him to go back my mom had to go back and if my mom had to go back I had to go back because I wasn't old enough to go gallivanting around on my own even though that's what I have been doing the entire month already anyways. My stepdad was still going to be very focused on working and not really able to take care of me. My oldest brother got to stay for another 2 months and I think that's a resentment I'll hold against the middle child for life.

Also, of course, your team and great hubby!! I also wanted to say thank you for all your hard work and for keeping me company during my sometimes loneliest, quietest times. 😊 I can’t imagine how mentally difficult most of the cases and research get. I was studying in Tokyo at the time, and had also only just seen Violet Evergarden that year. You could really feel how heavily the tragedy weighed on the public in the following days, headlines on screens on the trains as the stories developed... It was absolutely devastating as a public attack in a country where that type of thing is so rare.

Yes, he should have been cleared by psychiatrists and criminal profilers before release. To me it’s even more dangerous if there is a medical condition that allegedly made him more likely to commit such a violent crime, and if that condition hasn’t been treated and managed properly. It’s like putting a ticking time bomb in the closet without ensuring the timer has been turned off.

i had never cried with a video talking about someone i don't know but the way the patients and his family talk about the doctor just broke my heart, is hard to find such kind doctors in the mental health field, or at least that's how my experience has been as a patient, he sounds like he helped so many people and he loved his job, i cannot imagine how hard it must be for those who he helped, just hearing about it hurts and i didn't even knew him, is so incredibly frustrating to hear the man who did it didn't even face any bit of consequences

If the sentence maximum for attempted murder was 15 years (idk how much it is there - just estimating) then he should’ve served 10 years punishment and 5 in a mental health facility. (Or visa versa). The judge was being empathetic bc dude had mental issues but decided not to impose any type of diagnostic/ treatment requirements?!? They just unleashed him out into the public.

@@TaewillsI agree. I have mental health issues and have been hospitalised a number of times for it, so I don’t say this lightly - people is not responsible for their crime due to a psychiatric disease should not be released from a secured psychiatric treatment unit until a team of psychiatrists clear them of being a danger to themselves or others. There shouldn’t be a time limit. To be fair, that’s how I feel about how all prison sentences. That prisoners should be given a minimum sentence and after they have served the time they should still need to be assessed by a team with at least one criminal profiler to ensure they don’t pose a danger to others after release, based on their prison reports, face to face interview and psych testing. If this isn’t affordable, then this should at least be done for sexually motivated, sadistic or violent crimes. How many times have we heard of serial r@pists and murderers to have been released early from prison or was given too short sentences.

Such a sad case, I wish all those who passed and their loved ones well wishes.❤ I would also love it if you would one day cover the KyoAni Fire, as a fan of animation myself that day hit the community hard. KyoAni is known throughout the community for being woman founded, having extremely fair working conditions(especially for Japan), employing mainly women, giving paid maternity leave(which isn't a common thing in Japan again), and for hiring just out of college animators to help them get into the field. They are an amazing company who make amazing works of art and the tragedy hit everyone all across the world.

Tokyo has over 9 million people, Yokohama has over 3.7 million people and Osaka has 2.7 million people. Yes, I've been to Osaka. Unfortunately the fire was started at the base of the stairs to the 4th floor, which was their only means of escape for the souls who perished. The building was not up to code. Sad.

This gave me flash backs. A few years ago I was taking my co worker home and there was an overwhelming amount of smoke by the dental office we worked at. So she said to go to it. I didn’t really want to cuz I didn’t wanna be in the way of firefighters. But we live in a small town and about 150 people were gathered around this house in flames. We parked at a strip mall and walked over a couple blocks to see what was going on. A mother was screaming that her daughter and niece were in the house still. The mother was a hoarder inside and outside so nobody could go save the girls. They were in the attic in her room and the smoke killed them. Flames were blowing out windows. All we could do was watch and listen to the mom screaming for her only daughter. She was a girl I went to school with and had classes with. We never talked but we were both shy introverts. She passed away along with her cousin. Any time I hear a house fire story now I think of them and relive those moments staring at the house hoping for a miracle. Hearing the moms begging pleads. It was a heart breaking night
