An attempt at transcribing the lyrics. Anyone have any corrections? Smile, smile for me. Tell me what it is you see, Is it me? Oh, love my smile, Hold me just a little while, I could see you. You did ____ with me. Smile so tenderly. I could live with you. Live, give everything to you. Eyes wide like lenses to me, I said a lot like a time Belongs with me, always be a smile. Smile for a while. Say that you're free, and smile for me. I can see my smile. Smile, never go away. I can see my smile. Smile... And everything seems to spin around, And I hardly understand. And everything seems to break away, And I make a stand. Say you are my friend, Smile, is it true? Now it may never end? Is it real for you? Ever be unreal Never want to spin like I begin, When I'm away every other day. No, no I cannot be, Cannot live, you see, Cannot hold you inside me. Yeah, and there's always a tiny bit of hope, And it doesn't always come, And it lifts me like a rope. And I try to find gold. And I look in mind, my head, And I see everything that was ignored. Oh, hail, always coming to, Always lying down like sand on the ground, Like everything you speak and see through. No, never loved this disgrace, Never find a strain (?) Like breath goes and hits my skin, And I try and I try and I try to feel inside. For you loved, before you were my friend, Is it true? Is it real? Can it never end? Is this time? Smile. Smile, say you're my friend, Say everything is like my eyes, It's wide like the land. Say it aloud, Light up time. Love me, Smile for me so I can see Everything I want to be. Just please me tenderly, I failed (?) to see. Can I be free? Should I be?

The original inspiration and song title spelling of this song was Charlie Chaplin's song, later sung by Nat King Cole which was a favorite of my mother's. When I introduced the track to PTV Gen assumed the spelling I chose, S.M.I.L.E. was a nod to Timothy Leary's phrase, S.M.I.2L.E. .....

Perhaps the Chaplin reference was subconsciously knowing that Gen would get tossed out of the UK like Chaplin got tossed out of the USA. Of Chaplin truly was a great artist and could play a clown so well, whereas Gen is a hopeless, malignant narcissist without an inkling about his true nature.... and so it goes.... telepathic regards, fred.giannelli

Gen got dumped by his 1st wife. Then lost his mind. Too bad he didn't take his 2nd wife to a western doctor. Maybe she'd still be alive today if he did.
