@@bulb9970That’s basically the point for some of his trailers, especially with this one. They don’t call Alfred Hitchcock, the Master of Suspense, for nothing. And another thing, as he was about to explain certain actions or even his characters, and such, he left it for us to see what had happened, throughout that movie. That’s movie magic from Hitchcock himself, and frankly, if I ever saw a trailer like this one today (which the odds can be very low), I would simply think that they used his magic, to display it right in front of us.

Hitchcock knew how to deliver and sell, he was very confident in his directing abilities. If you wanted to know, then you had to buy a ticket. This trailer is PERFECT. It shows so much, but nothing at all! It alludes to points in the movie that hitchcock is obviously disturbed by, so he doesn't go into detail and skips over it. This makes us really want to know what he was talking about. Or when he looked in the closet and made a shocked and disturbed face, but didn't describe or show us what was inside. When he tells us about the son's room, we really want to know what's in there, but he glosses over it. This trailer is a masterpiece.
@Anrainerstaat9 жыл бұрын
+Maplebaconz No, the trailer is giving away a lot. Just think of how the film is kind of a road movie throughout the first half hour. When the woman arrives at the motel there is nothing to indicate that it will be of major importance to the film. It is just a stop by on the road. After watching the trailer, a viewer will be waiting for the motel to finally come up for the first half hour. I'm glad I watched Psycho unprepared.

You don't see movie trailers like this anymore- the way Hitchcock builds his audiences up for certain scenes, places, as well as characters, throughout this particular trailer, as well as some of his other ones, it gets them suspicious and anxious about what needed to be explained, before they actually see the movie. Like he always does, he doesn't give away too much, since he's always expecting his audiences to be either frightened, shocked, or even terrified, just by watching this movie and his others.

That way, you as an audience member might forget by the time the movie plays, or when you see the detective going up the stairs it adds to the suspense since Hitch described it, and you are waiting to see just how it plays out. You know, as opposed to the trailer for THE MARTIAN, where they show Matt Damon survive, "science the sh-t out of stuff", send a message *and* we see the rescue mission heading for him. Like someone in the AICN talkback put it: "Great... now all I need to see is the final 20 minutes."

Never realized that the movie had such an interesting trailer. Very revolutionary for it's time. Thanks Rob Ager.

It’s ironic that my daughter shares his birthday. Hitchcock is one of my favorite film directors and “ Psycho” one of the best thrillers ever made!!

He only directed the original. He was dead by the time the sequels came out.

He is wonderfully natural in front of a camera. I’ve watched Hitchcock in interviews but delivering scripted lines, he can be a delightful, English gentleman who slowly turns very sinister. Was Hitchcock an actor early on in his career? His delivery of, “the bathroom”, was perfect. To think there was a time where no one knew what that (i.e. the shower scene) was in reference to.

You see, this Trailer is not that 'Good' per say. Its not good at being a Trailer, but its good at doing the base purpose of Trailer. It makes you want to see the god damn film.
