You can thank the psychonauts for that. They clearly have a "this is therapy, not control" approach to psychic in general. A very healthy way to go about something. Frankly, if most organisations ACTUALLY approached their fields with the same mentality instead of just saying that they do. The world and people in it would be a lot better place. Psychonauts as a organisation definitely has muddy waters but it's the closest I've ever seen to a noblebright organisation without relying on just on angelic effect - coming off and looking good- this group actually has unique means heal and understand people so they have a reasonable justification to rehabilitate people instead of locking them up or killing them. Also sorry for necroing a one year comment.

@ThatBugBehindYou3 жыл бұрын
It's not really open minded it's more that there is literally no direction to reasonably put the anger. He can't aim it at the psychonauts because that's where his son has chosen to grow. He can't aim it at Lucy because despite her killing his mother and father she also raised him into adulthood and helped raise his children. He could take it out on Nick but how could he do that when Nick is already being punished for his actions legally? Reasonably the only one he could take it out on is Ford and there would be no fight there, Ford would agree with everything launched at him and yet he would still have to say it was the only option and Augustus would have to agree because it was the only possible way. It creates a very realistic view of tragedy in the modern world, very rarely do we have an opportunity to actually get revenge in a way that makes up for the loss so all you can do is ponder it.

And technically, Maligula is many people’s fault. It is Malik’s fault for using Lucrecia as a tool, instigating her to see herself as destruction after the Valermo Dam Incident but the fact that she was already used as a force of nature didn’t help. While the Psychic Six certainly didn’t harm her they contributed to it by practicing her powers. Finally, Ford shook up Raz’s family and made Lucrecia a ticking time bomb. The blame is multifaceted as mentioned earlier, and everything is dealt with as mentioned earlier. Of course Augustus is rather accepting of everything. There is nothing left to do. (And as “Nona” Lucrecia did had great times and memories with her new family, so I doubt he would be so quick to dismiss Lucrecia and banish her away from the Aquatos.)

But of a Necro I know so sorry but it's a hell of a moment so I had to comment. It's an incredible Real Life moment that every single person will face on some level at some point when looking back on the actions of a past generation and asking "why?" And while there are some cases where bitterness can be justified, for the most part you just have to accept they did the best they could with what they knew and what emotional/mental baggage they were carrying. Few people in my experience actively set out to deliberately harm a younger generation and instead at some point think they are helping. A study of history will show just about everything we consider vile today was at some point in some place (and in some places still is) considered a good and helpful thing. If my father who had a rather awful life taught me anything (and he taught me very much) it's that you pass the lesson of the pain on so it doesn't repeat but not the pain itself, because most of that older generation will not be free of that guilt till they die. In my personal opinion hating them is both pointless and more harmful to you than them. In Augustus' case he knows ford will never forgive himself no matter how well that family heals and that the woman who raised him will never really move past murdering her own sister regardless of anything he says or does.

I really love the fact Raz isn't letting his successes go to his head. In less than a week, he saved not only the world, but the Psychnauts as a whole, without being a fully-trained psychic at that. He stopped Oleander and Loboto's plans at the camp, saved Truman Zanotto from the Rhombus of Ruin, helped reunite the Psychic Six, took down the guy who set things into motion, and helped the one person that was probably the most hurt of all the characters, as horrible her actions were, helping his father and ridding his family of their old fear of water in the process. And at the end, he finally gets to fulfull his dream and officially joins the Psychonauts, the one thing he wanted from the start. So many characters would get cocky, but Raz? He always knew he wasn't a fully-fledged Psychonaut and that he had much to learn. Was he headstrong? Yes, but that's because he was already in the thick of it from the start and because he wanted to see things through to the end, after everything he faced. He made mistakes along the way, but he's still a kid, and mistakes are part of growing as a person and professionally. He remained humble, and that's probably what makes him such a great Psychonaut. Aside from the hiccup with the casino, he doesn't try to go too fast, too far, which is where the Psychic Six and Lucrecia went wrong. They used the Astralathe to unlock powers they were not ready for, powers they likely would've been able to unlock themselves given enough training, but this fasttrack also opened them up for instability. If they had taken their time, built up their powers the slow and steady way, their mind swould've been that much more strong, more stable. Yes, the fight against Maligula was horrible and left it's scars, but I think it would've been managable if they hadn't opened their minds before they were ready for it, making them unable to cope in a healthy way, forcing Raz to help them. Would there still be trauma? Yes, especially for poor Bbb and Helmut, but there's a good chance things wouldn't have gone as bad, maybe Maligula would've never been born from Lucrecia's anger and grief. Gods, I'm rambling again....

@@Dante-Balisk maybe tracking down Dr lobato at camp Whispering Rock? They could upscale the original environment, age the surroundings a bit, maybe have raz as a Counselor, with either him being forced to protect the kids as the call to adventure, or being an entirely new character to flesh out the world more. They could have the main plot revolve around another countries Equivalent of the Psyconauts (The TeleKops?) Investigating an international incident at Whispering Rock, maybe requiring the expertise of Dr Lobato, maybe his kid got involved somehow? This game is really good at actually using the great premise it starts with to the fullest extent, so If they decided to make a third game I would have no doubts they would do it well.

Since Psychonauts 2 came out, I’ve been wondering how the series would continue. (If it would at all, to be quite honest I’m very content with the 3 games DoubleFine has given us, but y’know, more content lol) I’m not sure if this idea has been put out there already, and if it was this would be very embarrassing for me, but I would just love to see a game in Raz’s head. After basically saving the world on three separate occasions over the course of a couple days, it would only be fair that he rests and sorts things out in his OWN mind. He would traverse the dream world, fight his nightmares, interact with the mental constructs of everyone he’s met, and most importantly, comes to terms with both the events that occurred and his newly discovered repressed psychic powers. (If u know, u know) I would imagine the characters are like constructs he created in like a reverse-clairvoyance, where we see how Raz perceives the characters, rather than the characters that perceive Raz. It would also be cool to see how his mind looks now that he’s accepted his family’s history and learned to empathize and see their side of the story. Basically, to sum things up, he’s been spending all of his time assisting other people with their traumas and mental problems, now it’s time to sort out his own baggage. Idk, just thought I’d put this out there bc it’s fun to think about the future of your favorite games.
