My far-out (definitely wrong theory) as to why the viewer is so special is because we’re some sort of physical reincarnation of Aneris/Harmonia. I mean, if we’re being stalked, groomed, and tortured by a chaos-worshipping, blood magic-using (maybe) cult of Eris, then who else is a perfect sacrifice than her sister/antithesis reborn in a very killable meatsuit? Plus, she had a tendency to “unmake” things that Eris makes- hence Gloom getting smote at the end.
