This is what I'm talking about ! A decadent Empire ruled by ineffective emperors and ready to crumble

Good to see another Morrowind/PTR video from you! And I'm glad you enjoy Anvil! I also liked your point about Colo-Nordic lords being bad with money. Even if Anvil's something of an exception, you do run into some local authorities who tend to overspend. Maybe they want too many fancy weapons or armor pieces.

Feel you, bro. I played Oblivion first and still harbor some nostalgic love for it. When I play it nowadays, I usually go for a fully modded, 'fantasy-kitsch' version. But it was Morrowind, which I played shortly after, that truly blew me away. I have a soft spot for weird fiction and Tolkien's more arcane works, like The Silmarillion. Morrowind is the only game that scratches both itches simultaneously.

I did some bugfixing in Ranyon-ruhn before the latest release (making the silt strider port use a newer bespoke asset and one or two minor bugs) and I regret not getting rid of the ugly foundation pieces the temple was using...

While I could never get on with Morrowmind as a game, this version of the world does sound a lot more interesting than what we got in Skyrim & Oblivion.
@varamyr_15 күн бұрын
you should really try to get into it, once you overcome the Zoomer brain and get past the first 2 hours or so of gameplay you'll never wanna put it down back again. by far the best elder scrolls experience there is.
@DiocletianLarius12 күн бұрын
I'm a skybaby so my first Morrowind playthroughs were a real struggle, I opted for cheating my way through and I advise you to do the same, specially in stuff like "speed" and "hit chance" (thank the Eight they got rid of that). The story alone is superb, not to mention the lore, the quests, the land, etc. I remember getting so used to seeing giant fungi trees and volcanic wastelands that when I arrived at Solstheim I felt like it was as exotic as an alien world, it's really a game ppl should play only for that. Same with Daggerfall, the gameplay is even worse than MW but the story is worth it.
@lorcan_929 күн бұрын
Go play it. I tried it after Skyrim and Oblivion. Never even played the others after starting it. It is peak Elder Scrolls. After Morrowind, play Daggerfall.

You know, with this version of the empire, it makes the storm cloaks seem a little bit more reasonable. Unfortunately, they just made them the good monarchy you see in generic fantasy.
@psychotripnerdstuff6 күн бұрын
Stormcloaks are always gonna be reactionary right-wing populists unwittingly doing the bidding of their "true" enemy (The Thalmor). But their grievances certainly become more BELIEVABLE under this incarnation of the Empire. On that we certainly agree. Isn't it funny though that the games became so safe and generic that they took the "EMPIRE" and made it safe and morally whiteashed?
@a.m.d.51545 күн бұрын
Quite the hilarity, though I don't mind Uriel Septim just being somebody's grandpa in oblivion.

@@a.m.d.5154 Lol he came off as more than just a grandpa in Oblivion to be fair. Patrick Stewart is the GOAT.

Great video and hope you do more. I love the 3rd era lore so much because morrowinds version of Tamriel imo makes the human races just as interesting as the mer cuz oblivion going forward as you said is very bland and grounded.
@DiocletianLarius12 күн бұрын
I think the idea of Roman ruins buried in a caribbean jungle is cool as hell, but tbh I prefer Oblivion's terrain. That being said I do think they wasted a lot of opportunities in TES4, specially with already "established" things like the growing unrest in the Empire, Uriel's sons being impostors, colovian&nibenese cultures etc. For me, Morrowind was clearly setting the tone for the fall of the Empire. I don't mind the daedric invasion-end of the world event or Martin's story, but I wish they had explored the other plots first, leaving the Oblivion gates as a "late game plot twist". *Oh no, the Empire is crumbling, the sons of Uriel are waging a civil war (Colovia vs Nibenay?) against each other thanks to some Imperial council puppeteers, and now the demons are invading!* something like that. Though what irks me the most is the Imperial Legion reskin, wth was that?? They removed all of Morrowind's Roman style in favor of some cuirass, a weird Corinthian-like+medieval helmet/abomination with pointy stuff and an incomplete cingulum as a skirt. Even Skyrims imperial armor looks better than that.

Well they had to make it look like Gondor armor, duh, it's not like they had a choice.

Lol. I get what you're saying, but I couldn't get over the fact that every mine and fort in Oblivion was ruined. It made it feel like the Empire was in even worse shape than in Elder Scrolls III!
@Otterdisappointment16 күн бұрын
@ Yeah that’s a fair argument against the Lotr art style when everything is a ruined stone bastion with no flair or purpose. Some forts are actually occupied by the Legion funnily enough. Fallout doesn’t get much better with that. Also bandits everywhere despite Cyrodil being the equivalent of maxxing out every holding in CK2 there’s just no way that much prosperity and security even at sea allows for such successful banditry.

overabundance of ruins and bandits and the lack of towns bothered me way more than no jungle tbh
@Otterdisappointment15 күн бұрын
@@blueshit199 A jungle makes no sense in: flatland, with a lake, surrounded by mountains, above the equator Like how do they even work with that with what’s actually built there? The deciduous Cyrodiil on its own is a paradise; forget Shangri-La.
@blueshit19915 күн бұрын
@@Otterdisappointment I know, right? I think for Bethesa in the late 90s this was a way to justify why northern Hammerfell in Daggerfall was made into a desert with 1000 and 1 nights flare (which was done for variety's sake and clear cultural clash/contrast when moving between provinces). moderate/mediterranean climate is perfectly fine for Cyrodiil, but more roman influence over medieval europe are always welcome to me.
