Part of a Yankee telecast on WPIX TV, Channel 11 from 1986. Bill White and Phil Rizzuto broadcast a 4th inning rain delay as the Yankees played the Twins at Yankee Stadium. This is a great example of the two broadcasters, and as broadcast partners. Rizzuto and White (and Frank Messer) were the broadcast team of the Yankees in the 1970s and 1980s.

ahhh...feels like the 80s all over again....Eddie Layton working his magic on the Hammond Colonnade organ ....What a great time when the real Yankee fans where filling those blue seats. When the Mets were New Yorks team and the stadium was half empty in the Bronx. It was still the greatest place in the world for me and wish I could go back to those vintage80s at the Stadium!

I come to this video because this is the only thing left of the of the good memories of the great days of the yankee broadcast. I cannot watch them now because they don't play at the TRUE Yankee Stadium and the announcers are like cardboard cut outs of these fine men. To hear Eddie Layton again and the banter of the announcers is what is missing. I am so glad I was an adult in these days and to witness their greatness.

@2:00 Phil Rizzuto and Bill White at their best. The chemistry was great. One of the many reasons Phil was so good, while he was broadcasting he always let us know that he was a Yankee fan. He would mention someones Birthday to try to rally the Yankees, lol. He was on our side. As a kid it's reassuring to know the announcers are on our side. I'm watching this for the 100th time and there isn't even a game but whoever grew up watching the Yankees and Rizzuto and White in the 70s and 80s should understand why.

I'm a Mets fan but always watched the Yankees in the 1970's and 80's on Channel 11 before cable. It was baseball and we didn't have all the games like we do now. Phil and Bill were great together like McCarver and Ralph. Hey White, the best was the time they showed Rickey Henderson adjusting his cup and groin and Rizzuto said Henderson is adjusting things out there and there was a burst of laughter and then silence for like 25 seconds. White and Rizzuto must of been dying. Frank Messer would be around putting you to sleep with needless bullshit and comments.

I recall Sterling's "ISLANDER GOAL!" & "BULLSEYE!" as voice of Isles & Nets. After Leafs upset Isles in '78 playoffs, a caller got through to his WMCA sportstalk show and simply uttered "Islanders choked."Sterling then went on a rant about how he wasn't upset by such digs but which seemed to show how personal he took it.I know some Yank fans love him but I find he makes the game unlistenable.Hard to fathom him as the voice of such a premiere team. And yet 70 yr old Marv Albert hasn't lost a step.

No advertisement on wall behind home-plate. No writing on the TV screen inn., score or Pitch counts. Even the batters back then had better batting stances. We use to watch games on TV for FREE., Now they want you to pay for it. They have destroyed this beautiful game today with their f-ing greediness. There are no more fundamentals anymore. Today's game the ballparks are small now so they can hit more home runs. It was 430 feet in death valley until 1985 , 411 in 85 now 399. All they want to do today is hit Home-runs. No more double-headers, Twi-night double headers. No more pennant races. No more complete games because they are pussies. You'll never see a complete game NO-HITTER because the started lucky if he goes 6 innings. Prices through the roof to go to the ballpark. During the National Anthem It's ALL commercials. I wouldn't give them a penny to watch now. They disrespect the flag. I will only watch the old games. This is real baseball. Oh, BTW, thanks for the upload.

Complete games? Now you can’t get a closer to pitch in a non save situation without lots of bellyaching or to go more than one inning. Back in the late 70’s/ early 80’s when I started watching they would sometimes come in during a tough situation in the 7th and close it out. That was a save, not a 3 run lead in the 9th with no one on base.

@@Tony-hz8ld A few years ago Goose took a lot of heat for daring to criticize Mariano Rivera and the fact that the majority of his saves were only one inning but he is right. They say pitch counts are to protect their arms, but I still see a lot of injuries. It makes sense at the youth and even college level, but by the time they arrive in the majors is when the training wheels should come off.
