Wonderful and so thorough. The compartment door on my original had become irreparable via an accident. I bought an identical model for $25 off eBay that had a inoperable CD player and used this video to perfection to take the working compartment door and ribbon cable from the purchased unit to repair my original. So excited and thankful that my original is working 100% now!

I'm quite frustrated by your video. You say you have an large quantity of NOS CD drives, but you won't sell any. You talk about how your company went out of business and that you have a substantial investment in those NOS parts, but you won't sell any. You talk about the high quality of the first gen units, but you won't sell NOS parts or, AFAIK, offer a repair service. I have an AWRC-1G with a CD drive that no longer will. You've done nothing to help resolve my problem. Why would I want to disassemble the unit to the bone, if I can't get replacement modules? Be cause of your video, I know the parts I need exist, but you won't sell any. I'm frustrated.

I have been saving my Bose to take apart to see if it was fixable for at least the last 2 years. From watching this video it sounds like it needs a new fuse. And the cd player sometimes acted up and would not read cds. But one day it just turned off. The whole thing. No display. Can I get a new fuse just anywhere fuses are sold and I have access to someone who can solder but is it absolutely necessary that the fuse be soldered? Thank you! Appreciate this video. Couldn’t believe no one was fixing these anywhere ever again!

Hi, you need to use a good magnifier and check all CD related solder for cracks. Only one thing causes the issue you're having, cracked solder. You just need to find it and reflow it. As your unit heats up and expands it makes good contact at that point. Good luck

Great video! How to get the ribbon cable back on the top door?
@EightiesNut
@EightiesNut 5 ай бұрын
Hi, Thank you! You would need to use needle nose pliers as that ribbon was installed prior to the lid being thermally adhered together. Hold the ribbon as close to the contacts as possible when inserting it. Holding it further out will cause it to buckle. Good luck!

@EightiesNut
@EightiesNut 5 ай бұрын
It is basically a pinch-press fit, tab-less meaning it does not have a plastic tab (hold-down clip) just insert the ribbon in the same position all the way in nice and even. In this case polarity matters. I have done it many times with no issues at all. By the way, no reputable seller should be selling the top CD lid without the ribbon still intact and still installed as buyers would just run into the same issue you are having without the super thin flat needle nose pliers it becomes rather difficult maybe even impossible. Even some people with tech skills might still have a hard time because of the tight fitment.

@EightiesNut
@EightiesNut Жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you. Basically you have to choices, one replace the optics by it self or two replace the complete optical drive assembly which will have a new optics already included. Back in the days it was only a $32 difference so we almost always opted for the complete assembly on the older worn units. It was more cost effective for us and longer lasting for the customer, we did not want to replace the diode then have the radio come back soon after for a drive assembly failure.
@davidbrewster6834
@davidbrewster6834 Жыл бұрын
Yes I can easily see why you did that. Problem is people cannot acquire a new drive or optics nowadays so replacing the diode may be one of the only options. Is it easy to identify the diode and what is the spec for a replacement one?

The radio has a crossover built-in. It is not true stereo, borderline Mono channel. More bass to the left and more highs and treble from the right speaker. A 30-watt amp would be plenty.

@@EightiesNut now I’m wondering if the speakers need to actually be in the Bose housing for optimal sound. Is there a waveguide or resonance chamber behind one or both?
@EightiesNut
@EightiesNut 9 ай бұрын
Sorry, the word is "treble" I was typing too fast. The acrylonitrile butadiene styrene speaker housing was tuned specifically for those speakers mainly for the left speaker it is used as a little woofer. It's a tuned ported enclosure this was chosen over a sealed one that produces clean tight bass because ported travels further in turn, it is more filling.

@EightiesNut
@EightiesNut 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, if you purchased the lid with no ribbon from amazon or eBay, return it, as the sellers should know better especially if they specialize in selling Bose products. If they are selling just the lid then they have and should have an understanding of the unit. Let me explain, back in the days I was involved with the first generation second and third Rev, design changes. That is called rolling the Rev. Rolling the Rev. is done anytime we make changes to the drawings or MPI (Manufacturing Process Instructions) Rev. is short for revision. The ribbon in the lid, including the PCB in the lid, the CD centering and the one piece silicone rubber button sheet are all permanently encapsulated in the lid as the lid is sandwiched together with a chemical thermal adhesive. You can try with a fine needle nose to insert the ribbon cable and risk buckling / damaging the ribbon or I would just return it as the seller should have sold the lid with the ribbon still installed. We had concluded back in the days against my recommendations to not make the lid serviceable, but the understanding is that the lid should last approximately 20years and that was long enough and if during the refurbishing process the lid needed replacing then they would just install a new lid assembly that included the new ribbon. Thanks, The Eighties Nut
@tektech1065
@tektech1065 2 жыл бұрын
The ribbon socket in the lid is different from the ribbon's socket on the display board. The one in the lid has a sliding lock which lock has to be slightly pulled out in order to let the ribbon slide in. And then pushed back to lock the ribbon in place. You could probably use a small hooked pick to pull out the lock, then insert the ribbon, and then push the locking part back. Here's what it looks like kzbin.info/www/bejne/haTPZ6yEdtaMnZI

Thank you for the insight into a hidden gem. I have a Bose Wave I, and I have been using it for my main speaker system. I have been running units that plug into the auxiliary jacks in back, and it takes care of everything. Recently, the connections on the auxiliary jacks cut in and out from the audio signal. If I wiggle the wires, it comes back temporarily, but eventually cuts back out. Is the unit done at this point, or is there a replacement or repair for the rca jacks in back that cut the audio signal in and out. Thank you again for the great instructional.
@EightiesNut
@EightiesNut Жыл бұрын
Hi, it is my pleasure. It is not a difficult repair, but you will have to dismantle the entire unit much further then I demonstrated, as the inputs are soldered to the PCB and you must get underneath the PCB to desolder the old one and resolder the new one in it's place. Also you might not need to replace it at all. You might have just cracked the solder from using it so many times and all you have to do is reflow the solder also from underneath. I always tell everyone if you will be using the input or output jacks frequently then you should install a RCA patch line with male on one side and female on the other, so in the future all you would replace is a $2 to $8 patch line and save all the repair hassle. Good luck

Oh sorry, I thought you were kidding. I was talking about the amplifier capacitors on the PCB sometimes they swell or burst and sometimes they just dry out. In the process of failing but not yet failed, you could get chirping sounds or hums, I would just replace all the caps as that will make the sound amazing again. Through time old caps will change the sound quality and because it's gradual slight changes and not drastic changes most people wont notice it. I notice the sound difference immediately because I am so used to listing to them. I could till a unit with new caps compared to a unit with old caps.

@EightiesNut
@EightiesNut 8 ай бұрын
Hi, yes there are a number of different variables at play with a hum, and without troubleshooting it myself I would say the most likely or highly plausible culprit would be a filter cap or potentially a bad ground. Caps don't need to swell to be bad, however, they could dry out and the cause or the lack of the dielectric presence may or may not cause swelling. I wish you good luck with your endeavor.

Hi, Its no problem at all. I enjoy helping people. It sounds like your low level out is fine which means the most likely culprit would be the amplifier. As long as the bad sound is produced by the radio and the CD player.

Sounds more like a weak laser diode. If the motor starts on its own then the motor driver cap is fine. Also, try cleaning the lens with a lint-free cleanroom swab and Spray-way.

I got a used Wave Acoustic CD-3000. The radio works great. The CD player spins the CD and the display shows it started but does not begin to play. There is a soft clicking sound and will not play. I worked for the company on the retail side from 03-06. The Wave Music System was introduced in 05. Each driver/ transducer are the same and have a dedicated 26in tapered waveguide for each speaker. It is a half an octave lower then the original and it out performers the original. The differences from the current series 4 is a new housing and you are able to adjust the bass. The breakdown display we had in the store looked liked like the head of Johnny 5 from Short Circuit. It was pretty awesome
