Thanks for the very interesting video. I guess it's a challenge to avoid slipping off the carriage? have to have your wits about you al the time. Does looking at all that snow make you dizzy and somewhat hypnotized? you have a very dangerous job, take care ok. London UK here, virtually no snow ever, haha. Nothing really wrong with this. He's got decent visibility, gentle slopes and turns, weight on his tires, and dry snow blowing over visible asphalt. Only thing I'd do differently is stick to my lower engine brake. Going 10 MPH when you don't need to just makes you a slow, rolling roadblock for other drivers to have to avoid and if your loaded you don't have the momentum to keep that heavy weight moving. Too slow and you'll slip your drive tires sending unnecessary torque to them to try and keep moving on any sort of slopes. So don't go crazy but use your momentum and feather the throttle to keep gently rolling along. And for those asking about chains - chains won't do you a lot of good on asphalt. Rubber tires get better traction then iron chains on asphalt. Save the chains for when you have enough snow/ice for them to dig into it and give you traction.
@ridingshotgun12517 жыл бұрын
JD .. exactly JD keep rollin so you just have to feather that throttle to keep her moving.. speed up at the bottom of a hill so you can climb that hill and keep her moving.. chains ONLY help for going uphill. not downhill or flat.

Mr, you shouldda slamed on the gas when you approached the steep downhill with curves so you can drift that cool semi of yours. I want to see semis drift in action. When you go fast as 65 mph on a snow icy road like you did there you were using the truck's momentum to keep it going straight. At least that's what I think. Hey, do trucks like yours have different types of tires as well? like summer tire or all season or snow tires??? I've been wondering about that. What types of tires do you use? And are there regulations you have to follow? like tire tread life before requiring replacement? What do you find more effective for the traction you get with your truck in these slippery conditions? Is it just weight? or tire type and tread? Who pays for the tire replacement? You or the company you work for? I bet they are very expensive since you got whopping 18 tires!!! And thanks for the ride I enjoyed it and you kept me company. It's real cool to get paid for driving. I want to have a job like yours. How do I go about becoming a semi truck driver? What are you hours? what days of the week? Do you get vacation pay? PTO? Hey much do you make an hour? Oh and please stop cussing.
@ridingshotgun12517 жыл бұрын
iamanoobiecheez Dude.. wow.. a hundred questions.. a lot of those can ne answered with a google search... no special tires but there are regs for wear and such.. sipped tires are the best for snow.. google that as well

I retired with 48 years over the road .I have been every where that you can drive a truck ,plus some that you should NOT drive a truck .Rules were not as tight when I started Some times I ran 3 log books .,Now I am retired and I like to watch truck movies.. It is amazing ,the stupid mistakes and dumb thing I see. .The CDL rules put a lot of experienced drivers out to pasture. They could drive and take care of equipment and freight ,but give them a written test and they would fail it. these 3 week truck driving schools just give you the answers to the CDL test. They don't give you common sense. I am glad that I retired when I did. I consider my self very lucky. If I was out there now, I would either end up dead or in jail.. In 48 years and 6 million miles, I have never had a load that was important enough to risk my life and wreck my truck over.. When I see CERTFIED WHEEL HOLDERS passing in white-out conditions ,running 60 miles an hour in white lanes ,where they cannot see 2 trailer lengths ahead . They are not safe, experienced drivers. THEY ARE IDIOTS IN DENIAL. sit around a truck stop some time, and watch them try to park. I have done that, and it is really comical. Bill Holliday, Brooksville ,FL.

All winter mountain driving, throwing iron all winter. One of the first things they should have taught you is NOT TO ENGINE BRAKE IN THE SNOW. BE SAFE TURN AND BURN

Yep... of course it’s just that pros that use jakes in low traction conditions. Only idiots prefer to slow down a little extra and drive smart... I mean drive like one of those safe idiots. Hahahaha But seriously, thousands of trucks wreck each year and when you talk to the driver they don’t know what happened, but the ECM registers dozens of corrected engine stalls and the driver still wants to blame everything but using a Jake brake..... because he doesn’t even know how many times the ECM saved his hide and thinks real pros always use the Jake.
