All alone in my flat. It is Dec 1993, and the year is coming to close. Place: IAS Academy campus, Mussoorie India Weather: light snow falling outside, leaving faint sound of falling snow on the tall pine trees all around Flat #3 Himachal House Time: past 10 pm On my window sill is playing my tape recorder, and on it, I am hearing Shudh Kalyan followed up by Ramkali sung by Pandit ji of the recordings gifted to me by my colleague Dr Rajnish Kaki and his wife Manisha. With my bedroom window just measly open to allow streak of fresh air sneak in as otherwise a bukhari in the flat is keeping the flat really warm; the Happy Valley reverberates with the echo of the singing of Pandit ji in that otherwise still winter night! Eternal heavenly feeling gives a Devine pleasure. The only word that comes on my lips whenever I hear Pandit ji is: SUBHAN ALLAH! ❤❤❤❤🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳

कोमल रिषभ आसावरी आणि आसावरी तोडी ही एकाच रागाची दोन वेगळी नावे आहेत. Komal Rishabh Aasavari and Aasavari Todi are one and same.

Are you sure this was recorded in the 1992 Savai Gandharva because he sang this at the 1982 Sawai Gandharva as well. I was there in person to listen to him.

Likely of 1992.In 1982 he was younger and had more hair on his head.I know because I used to attend SGM.almost every year. Now I am 75.So do not go. Have listened a lot since the age of 5.Anil Jmabhekar,Mumbai.Last day of 2017.

I don't understand why the crowd ( I will not call them listeners because they do not allow the music to penetrate in them)clap after such a heavenly music. Such singing one has to take it with him and remember atleast for some days.Though now,I donot attend SGM,due to old age I listened to old recordings.Even, to listen to his SAAA,alapi at the start of RAAG is worth listening many times and store in the memory.Anil Jambhekar,mumbai,last day of 2017.

This habit of clapping in the midst of a taan or piece of tabla is an obstacle in the enjoyment of such serene music. It is probably adopted from light music and is highly deplorable. They probably think that the artist craves for such immediate response, which a mature artist never seeks. Pt. Shivakumar Sharma often tells the audience at the beginning of a concert to desist from clapping in the middle. The crowd also invariably claps before the artist concludes his last alap.

I think the 'daad' of the audience also gives the artist an idea of how good ( in terms of understanding classical music) is. Its the way of Hindustani classical maifil. The audience is never passive. It reacts to every taan, sam or jaaga taken by the artist. Its a very interactive space, unlike western classical concerts. It's not only about listening, its also about understanding the skill of the artist and responding to him/her.
