Hey I made this video as fast as I could and it is pretty much a nut and bolt removal video so I think I did a pretty good job keeping my two days worth of work down to 22 minutes. If you have a 2001 PT cruiser 2002 PT cruiser 2003 PT cruiser 2004 PT cruiser 2005 PT cruiser 2006 PT cruiser 2007 PT cruiser 2008 PT cruiser 2009 PT cruiser with a 2.4 four-cylinder non-turbo charged this is probably the video for you. I can’t stress enough you will need the actual harmonic balancer removal tool to get the ballots are off.( if you comment saying you got it off without the tool. 1. You broke it taking it off. 2. It was not on the way it should’ve been. 3. I don’t want to call anybody a liar. But the shoe may fit. I’ve taken off about 50 of these Off and I’ve never got them to come off any other way maybe somebody will teach me something new. let me know what you think about my texting at the bottom of the screen I spent about two hours editing this one. And I certainly could make a lot better videos but they are free and I just don’t have the time but I do love to share my knowledge I hope you enjoy the video God bless and have a great day.

Very educational for me, I own a 2001 PT Cruiser and plan to keep it a long time by doing most of the repairs myself. Have already a bunch of stuff through the years couldn't afford it otherwise. I know this video took a lot of extra work which you really didn't have to do yet, you have done it. I am very, very grateful for this video and your time. God bless.

Yeah that bastard Kip Winger was supposed to come to the shop one day but he bitched out on me….. I don’t remember if you have to remove the cams if I removed the cams it was because I needed to get the bolts out and you may not be able to get the bolts out with the cams in there but because it’s an old video I honestly can’t remember it’s not that big a deal to remove them just put them back in the same spot using the same cam girdles Mark them before you take them off I’m not sure if it’s necessary to take them off or not I didn’t think so though but I must have in this video for some reason

@sharpcarco
@sharpcarco 3 жыл бұрын
I’m sorry Dan I do not know the answer to that question. More than likely it would be a timing thing one of the reluctor rings is probably different from one year to the other year you would have to remove both engines and have them sitting side-by-side one another and then count the teeth on the reluctor ring that is probably The most important thing

Enjoyed this video, checked it out because today the timing belt broke on my 2008 PT cruiser, I found out this engine is a non interference engine and it could have bent the valves, is that always the case that damage to the valves occur when the belt breaks. I was planning on replacing the belt myself but now I don't know it that will help if the valves are damaged.
@sharpcarco
@sharpcarco 3 жыл бұрын
Well it’s rather simple to check and see if you’ve bent a valve. There’s a couple of ways of doing it you can remove the valve cover Then find a cylinder that has both valves closed and make sure both of the lobes for the cylinder cam is not pushing down on them then check that for pressure if it holds pressure with the valves closed then that cylinder is good move onto the next cylinder move the cam make sure that both valves are closed and then check and see if it holds pressure it probably will week out somewhere else but will not leak out the cylinder itself or the exhaust if it does leak out the exhaust or the intake then them valves are bent if you understand what I’m saying gives me a good idea for a video I should show people and I have a good example at my shop. I hope you get what I’m meaning you could also look up a video on Leak down testing that will show you exactly what I mean is I’m sure they’re out there

@sharpcarco
@sharpcarco 4 жыл бұрын
DiamondTNT Hello good evening I’m guessing it would cost you about $1500 to do the head gasket could be $1000 somewhere in that ballpark it would depend on how much a used motor would cost you versus replacing the one you’ve already got it definitely sounds like you have a blown head gasket but it’s also possibility that you have a crackhead to because it won’t start any longer. I don’t work for these guys but I do swear by them. This is a link to a website that I use that searches all of the junkyards in the United States for used parts engines transmissions etc. all of the junk yards that are on the site have to pay $300 a month to belong to the site so they are all very reparable junkyards and you should be able to get a very cost-effective Quality used Engine if that is the case. But if the repair is going to cost over $2000 you should consider getting another vehicle these vehicles are kind of like throwaway cars they weren’t very expensive when they were new and they’re not worth anything even when they’re running correctly. I don’t know how much an engine cost for one of these but I can’t imagine it’s any more than a couple of hundred dollars because they’re everywhere. I hope that information is helpful God bless and I wish you the absolute best. If you have any other questions I recommend you start a new thread because I see them easier that way and you have a better chance of getting answered Car-part.com

Just picked up an 02 with a Whipple that the person decided to tach it out and ignore the MIL for the Whipple and cloud of smoke and no start.. Pulled the 2 plugs out I could get at without pulling back half of intake off and #1 soaked in oil, #2 had bottom electrode aimed nearly down, expect it should have hit a piston like that, so think a piston exploded and ring came up and pulled it down, find out tomorrow when put scope down there. so likely be tossing in a motor.. unless it is worthy of just head work, not expecting any good news.. was hot today so gave up early.. he had electrical issues too and a weird code P000005 5 damn zeros, no clue, think airbag issue perhaps as there was note about it and other airbag codes present, no engine codes, not sure where Whipple unit stores it codes, never had one of these before so will stop back to get some tips.. had a PT motor manual but it walked off.. cruise ac sunroof leather 5 speed, only 31k and in real nice shape new Cooper tires from 2012 so she must have been sitting, old doctor who had it passed, estate paperwork and no title, might have to scrap it...see what MN DMV says..

Hey Clay, can you tell me if the head had damage and needed repair? Other sources say that the head will be damaged if the engine overheated even just one time. My daughter's overheated 3 times in the last month... Please advise!
@sharpcarco
@sharpcarco 2 жыл бұрын
Well in my particular situation it did not warp , What you can do to check it is take a building square . Set it across the Area of the cylinder head that bolts to the engine. The part that goes against the block Then take a flashlight and make sure your square is pushed down the street and see if you have light showing through in the spots where are you shouldn’t. Or you can just take it to a machine shop and have them take a look this is not a very expensive had to have re-machined so somewhere between two and $300 they should be able to rebuild the cylinder head but it may not be warped.

The mechanics are puzzled and don’t know. Can you give me advice on what to do or where to go/what questions to ask y next shop I take it to! I’m going insane! Mine did the same thing. Mechanic told me the head gasket was not blown. I'd hear bubbling noises right in front of me after shutting off the hot engine. Loosing coolant, but no visible coolant leak. Exhaust did not blow out steam when started. But, engine would overheat even with full coolant. Head gasket was indeed blown. Car is in excellent condition but is now worthless with a blown engine. So sad. I really loved my Cruiser.

I replaced everything on it besides the hoses and the head gasket. What other steps I can take to prevent my engine from overheating after the head gasket? I like to push my cars hard
@sharpcarco
@sharpcarco 3 жыл бұрын
Well first I would say these cars are not designed to be pushed hard they are what I consider throw away cars. And I would also say if you get 150,000 miles out of a head gasket on one of these you’re probably doing just fine. You could head stud the cylinder head which would make it stronger and less likely to blow head gaskets but the expense that it would cost to do it would probably outweigh the value of the vehicle. It really boils down to what you’re gonna do with the car is it a daily driver is it a race car. That would determine how much you build the engine
