As part of the programming of the CROSSROADS festival in Manipal, Pt. Swapan Chaudhuri conducted a very absorbing interactive talk with ardent tabla students and fans peppered with anecdotes from his life. The event was organised by Kala Coast in association with Sangeeth Sabha Udupi and First Edition Arts.

Great, amazing tabla player, but, sorry, fake humbleness and lots of BS. Honorary doctorate means they want you to stop playing? That you should be a medical doctor? "Doctors not doing anything"? "People think music is easy money"? "People in music are nowadays well established"?

I would like to say that pandit ji is probably referring to the time when tabla players were given money for only one performance even if they play with 5 different artists. Only after Pandit Kishan Maharaj's strong and stern stance on tabla players getting payment for each performance did times change. Pandit ji may be referring to the idea that players are struggling as much as they used to in the past.
