Wow! My first time hearing the Mohan Veena, and now I have become aware of a wonderful artist as well. I was expecting a sound similar to Sarasvati Veena... Boy was I surprised! It makes me wonder what other western instruments could be adapted to play Sangeet like the saxophone, mandolin, and violin have been and this amazing "Mohan Veena". (obviously a former guitar!)

Joseph LoGiurato Actually, what is generally called as a Guitar is usually a 6-string Acoustic Guitar. Pt. VishwaMohan Bhatt didn't turn that into his Mohan Veena. It was originally a Slide Guitar, or a Hawaiian Guitar, which is an 8-stringer. Also, the Mohan Veena produces the sounds of Sarod, Sitar and Veena, so expecting a sound similar to just a Sarasvati Veena was actually an underestimation. :P Apart from that, this is some amazing stuff right here. :D

Mr. Bhatt! I have herd you in USA. Your hand is very "Tayyar," plus your :samazha" for music is excellent. In US you were staying with someone, and I spoke with that someone (I don't remember his name). I wanted to ask you a question, and that question is not only for you, but for all classical slide guitarists in India. When I hear the steel guitar being played for classical music, and if I don't know which instrument is being played (if I am listening with my eyes closed), I would say 25% slide guitar and 75% Sarod. If that is the case, why did those talented artists not started playing sarod? Just listen to the great Sunil Ganguly, he did not play his guitar, rather he forced his guitar to sing. I only know and have his two semi classical compositions: 1. Bazooband Khul Khul Jaye, and 2. Koyalia mat kare pukaar. In these two compositions he has maintained 100 % guitar "Anga." Well, any way he was the unique. He did not play classical music that much, but he played film songs, and the difficult one, and he has played better than the original. One of my friends commented about him "Guitar par ghazal bajaana aur wah wahi lena is not an easy task. Mr. Bhatt, if you have time, listen to his 1, Ghzal Cheddi Usne and Sentimental Journey. Sentimental Journey was his first LP, published long long back, but it was converted into CD, the name of which I am forgetting. Regards

I have been to 18 of his performances. Out of them, Prithviraj was on the Indian Drums (called as Tabla) at 15 of those performances. Yea, I'm talkin' about the guy you see in this video. Also, at all of those performances, I've heard him playing the same "Raag Shyamkalyan", and at the same time, he is also pretty noisy at times. Don't get me wrong, he is a wonderful Musician and a rather big genius, since he invented the instrument. He is also one of my heroes. But seriously, he uses the high pitched string a little bit too much and uses the low pitched string a little bit too less. Apart from that, he lets the person playing the Tabla steal the spotlight a lot. He is a wonderful artist, but I really don't see his maximum artistic potential here. Still, what he's doing in this video is something I gotta practice 150 years to be able to do, so he's still done a great job. :P

Regarding the tabla player take prominence, I believe that could be the influence of his guru Pt. Ravi Shankar who frequently did that along with when playing.

When music is Indian classical then why are you anchoring in English it should be in Hindi. हमें अपनी मातृभाषा को पूरा सम्मान देना चाहिए।

Mr Dheeru, he speaks much much better Hindi, perhaps better than you. Such a better that you can not imagine. Can you see who is in front of him in audience? It is for audience that he is speaking in English. Don't try to judge with half understanding.
