No offense meant. I'm impressed. It's just amazing for me. Every video..oh I spent a thousand here or 16 grand here for this equipment etc. I couldn't sleep at night doing that.. I guess that's why I don't farm like you. I'm looking at the world through my eyes I guess. I'm glad your videos are here for folks interested to learn..keep up the good work.

on older JD models there were/are 2 PTO shafts. (Lots of 4020s being used as utility tractors replacing the IHC Farmall Super Ms). One spare was stuck into a hole in the side of the housing. The gear box is wet so the easiest way to change it was to drive the nose of the tractor down into a roadside ditch and then swap the shafts out after goosing them heavily with the starting fluid to knock the grease and dirt off the parts.

Randy J Exactly, Randy J !Up until the introduction of the 6000,7000,8000 range, all the JD tractors made in Europe had the two separate shafts.

My JD 5220 has an "economy" PTO. It's basically just a 2-speed PTO. It runs 640 at 2600 engine rpm and when you shift to "economy" mode you the 640 pto rpm at 1700 engine rpm. It really does save a lot of fuel when you're running a smaller implement.

I was wondering if you have ever run into a problem on a john deer that the PTO lever when you push it down to engage. It will just lift back up on its own. if you hold the lever down it will engage and turn but if you let it go it just lifts back up and out of engagement. i actually used it like this for a little while now by just tying a rope on it to hold it in position. its not hard to keep it there but just wont stay on its own. I have 5325 john deer. its just used for shredding. thanks in advance for talking the time to read my comment.

The new tractors you have to demo all of them if you can. One might fit your needs more than another. I never have said the top brands suck. It will be interesting to see what improvements they will make now that they have met emission standards.

One thing IH did right was make a two speed pto that you didn't have to change. Just hook it up and go. All brand are good. We're just red cause that JD deal said they would be out next week to see what we have for trade. That was 40 yeArs ago and we haven't seen him yet.

We had a John Deere 8200 on the farm I was working on here in Germany. We put an adapter to 540 on the PTO cause here all gear is running on 540s. And boy that adapter was twisted. I like your opinion bout John Deere. In Germany they are almost every year on place one of the registration charts.. But why u are running such a little sprayer on such a big tractor?

Mack Thompson Maybe in the us this the way to go, in germany its no matter, 540 or 1000 rpm, 99% use the 6 spline. I think this changeable driveshafts are relicts from really old days, even my old Fendt from 69` have a gear shift for the pto.
@deutz450

Mack Thompson Belive it or not my front mower run with 1000 rpm and use a standard 1 3/8" 6 spline driveshaft, my rear mower ist actually adjusted for 540 rpm because i prefer that, but it can be adjustet for 1000 rpm and us still the same driveshaft. I know in some countries the 21 spline is very common, but not here in germany. Big machines like tripple mowers or big balers use bigger 1 3/4" driveshafts, but mostly also with 6 splines, sometimes the 20 splines variant which you can see in the video. It is not possible to change out the pto driveshaft on my tractors without taking down the complette transmission, more modern tractors especially in higer hp classes have this opportunity.

Here in sweden we have 6 spline for almost everything both balers, manurespreaders, mowers, tripplemowers and also liquidmanurespreaders. That is on fendt 936, NH T8050, Fendt 924 and so on every tractor that I have driven has used 6 spline on both 540 and 1000 and that we change inside the cab.

JD has top sales in a lot of areas as guys have been brainwashed into thinking if it don't have green tin and yellow wheels it's not a tractor , combine or implement they will run or lack of other brand dealer support close by. I Have been to a few places and run other brands against green and it's pee'd all over it. But guys won't change as grandpa was a green guy, they wouldn't even demo something else there. if some guys got more money than brains have at it. I fix older Deere's and the prices are stupid for some parts, and 30 year old stuffs getting more unreliable, most of it with hyd or trans problems now or the odd messed up motor. The new stuffs not much better either. for cost if you need the dealer to fix any of it! . in 5 to 10 years my repair shop will be done with protected computer and electronic stuff that's dealer only or obsolete parts as is happening now .

RDAllen LOL yeah hard to believe isn't it, I got a blue 6400 valtra here I was just doing my chores with. It was cheaper than a 64 type series Deere with half as many hours again. The valtra will still be working hard when the Deeres done, from all the worn out high hour ones I looked at for 45-$60.000! they needed tires or other work to be in the same condition as the valtra was. My only problem with the Valtra is Agco own it now :(

I have been wondering, snd I don't mean to pry but why ise the 8120 when you have that fancy 4960 you fixed up? It just seems like you could keep your cost lower running the 4960 instead. I'm just curious, and don't mean to offend.
@sstroh08
@sstroh08 9 жыл бұрын
To save wes the trouble, he uses the 8120 because he already has it set up to run his sprayer, to use the 4960 he would need to make another bracket to mount the monitor on to and a few other things of that nature, the 8120 has a nicer more sealed cab then the soundgard cabs like whats on the 4960 too, also I'd figure the 8120 is probably more fuel efficient then the 4960, being modern running common rail injection and the such even though their power levels are similar
@justinjohnston8704
@justinjohnston8704 9 жыл бұрын
I was thinking why spend the hundred grand or more on a new tractor when he had one that will do the work. I het he bought it whilst the 4960 was burned up. Why not trade it for that new windrower plus the old case. Probably be straight across the board on price.
@austincampbell7243
@austincampbell7243 9 жыл бұрын
The 8120 rides way better than the 4960, has a higher top speed for moving from field to field, and the 8120 is more fuel efficient. I own an 8120 and used to have a 4960. If I had to choose between the two the 8120 would win out every time. Oh, the 8120 has fingertip controls for the hydraulics rather than having to use levers.
@sstroh08
@sstroh08 9 жыл бұрын
Justin James I guess Wes is the only one that could answer that, but yea he did say he bought the 8120 as a replacement for the 4960 when it burnt, I figure he probably thought the 4960 was done for at the time but he managed to save it, if it was me I'd be happy to have a backup tractor ready to go if he needs it, say the 8120 takes a shit baling hay in the middle of summer with 400 acres ready to bale and a monsoon is coming a few days later, instead of being totally screwed since he has no other tractor that can handle his current baler safely except maybe the 5020, he can retrofit the 4960 to accept his baler and run it until the 8120 is back up and running again, not to mention it can take up some of the work the 8120 would have to do that much less hours on it, I'd say its pretty smart the way he runs his farm personally

I do not get it, you can just throw a switch in the cab to switch from 540 to 750 and 1000 rpm?
@awd3264
@awd3264 9 жыл бұрын
A van Seijen The simple answer is no. 750 just runs the tractor engine slower to produce 540. For the most part 540 and 1000 RPM PTO shafts (the part that runs from the equipment to the tractor) have different spline counts. Unless you turn the PTO stub around they wouldn't fit. As Wes mentioned in the video kinda it is to prevent you from accidentally running a 540 piece of equipment at 1000 RPM or 1000 at 540.
@mrhorsepower150
@mrhorsepower150 9 жыл бұрын
awd3264 most modern tractors have a lever or switch in cab to switch between 540 and 1000.you dont have to switch the shaft at back of tractor and the pto shaft on machines are mostly the ones with the big splines but you can make mistakes.One time i took trailed forage harvester[it ran at 1000rpm] of tractor and put a pasture topper [540rpm] on and forgot to change lever in cab and made shit of a gearbox on topper.it was a MF6480
@awd3264
@awd3264 9 жыл бұрын
mrhorsepower150 Where did I say there wasn't a switch or lever in the cab to change PTO speeds? I didn't. Many modern tractors closing into at least 100HP or above have them. That never was in question. I really was trying to explain why you might need to do more than just flip a switch when it is required to change the speed of the PTO stub shaft coming out of the tractor.
@mrhorsepower150
@mrhorsepower150 9 жыл бұрын
Mack Thompson no they dont.Most modern machines have the 6 spline shaft,doesnt matter which pto speed they are.You just shift the lever or button to 540 or 1000 in the cab.As i said i have 540 and 1000 rpm machines with 6spline shafts
@mrhorsepower150
@mrhorsepower150 9 жыл бұрын

you sing the praises of john deere and i am all about buying american but everytime you mention the price of a piece of equipment no matter how small it is $200.00 to $20000 dollars.what they are charging you and other farmers is pure profit for john deere and in the end the farmer has to pass the loss onto the customer.if john deere was really proud of their product and their country they would not screw over farmers and people with smaller tractors who just use them for everyday use around the property.
