Jordan Peterson tends to fiddle with his ring a lot in his lectures; I've listened to him for a few years, he's always so fascinating, and like you said, mesmerizing. I noticed however his fiddling very pronounced during his biblical lectures (They're pretty incredible, to be honest), and it tends to increase a lot when the public is asking questions, he also slows down his pace a lot when answering, you can see that he's thinking carefully about the words he'll use to express himself. He is hyperverbal (his words) and very high in openness (again, his words), so his lectures are very complex and he sometimes tends to travel through a network of tangents to get his point across, so when he lands his idea it's usually very developed and very close to him; it is rather frequent to see him tear up by the intensity of his thoughts (Emotions Kick Ass, hahaha). If you're reading this David I'd like to thank you for all the amazing value you put out. I watched all the content I could get my hands on hahaha, you've saved my audience from death-by-powerpoint, you've saved my family and friends from fubbing (still a work in progress for some), and you've increased my quality of life by helping me increase my confidence, my passion about my ideas and my attunement to my positive emotions. Thank you :)

The reason he is fidgeting this much I think is because of his health problems: “In 2016, Peterson had a severe autoimmune reaction to food and was prescribed clonazepam, which is a medication used to prevent akathisia (movement disorder as fidgeting)”. Otherwise, he is the most articulate and smartest public speaker of the 21st century

When he was lecturing, there was always a great clamor to get into his classes. When it came time for the students to review his course, more than a few of them called it "life-changing".

As a professional poker player, I disagree. Being able to read people is the least important skill of all the skills one needs to excel at poker. It can separate two elite players but at the basic levels, a person who understands the math and odds involved in poker but can't read people will be a much better player than the one that doesn't understand the math and odds but is an expert "lie detector".

Jordan Peterson's ethos really shines through in his public speech. He's been lecturing for about 4 decades at this point and he's talked extensively about public speaking, confidence, projecting yourself in the public space. He's sold out every show he's ever done and spoken to tens of hundreds of thousands of people at this point. But you can really see his alarming skill and precision of speaking when you watch these older videos of his lectures at the UofT from around 2015-2016. About the ring fidgeting he does, he does get anxiety and has suffered from an autoimmune disease his entire life, even had certain points in his life he was terribly addicted to pain killers, I think the ring thing is a side effect of years and years of habit, doesn't really matter as he doesn't let that slow him down. Even when you watch his Harvard lectures or TV interviews he's done in the early 2000's he's always been good with words and body language. I wish more people would pay attention to how Peterson commands his audience in his speech, he really is a top pro.
@Rajdoeoe
@Rajdoeoe 4 жыл бұрын
Not sure about the painkillers, but the reason we haven't heard from him lately (maybe never again) is that he got addicted to benzodiazepines. Almost killed him, and he is still recovering. I saw his daughters podcast where she interviewed him. He is not ok. At all. Hope he recovers

The eye height thing is super useful in parenting children as well. If I have something important to say to my 3 year old sometimes I will get down to his eye height and within his arm distance to tell it to him. I do it for both positive messages such as "I love yous" as well as instructive or corrective messages. It works wonders in his attention and retention when I do that.

Wow! I just stumbled on your channel. My God my heart rate went up, my excitement for life revived. Why? Nobody gets Public speaking unless they have Public spoken. A few years ago I witnessed Jordan Peterson in full flight, from the wings, in my home town Melbourne - by accident. I'd never heard of him before that. How? I was his body guard for the night (the Theatre owners were worried about backlash from the Canadian pronoun incident). What captivated me? More than his compelling content and insightful humanity, it was his total physical, mental and emotional commitment to the moment and his audience. I happened to be a member of TM International amateur public speaking group at the time. That night he eviscerated my aspiration bar and replaced with a brand new one somewhere in the vicinity of Mars! I haven't spoken publicly since the lock-down started here in April. I don't even know if amateur public speaking is for me anymore - but I sure miss the way it makes me feel. I'm subscribed to your channel now. Please analyse Online Public speakers, because nowadays if you want to get heard you must have a compelling online presence. Thanks for doing this _ I am about to jump into your back catalogue now.

For homework, I was tasked to study him. Thank you for your video. It's fascinating watching you deconstruct what it is he does, because it's so subtle. I like this. You have been covering a couple of youtubers. Those were good. This however was interesting on a completely different level. I'd like to see more professional speakers. In particular good ones. And as a bonus. You are probably not going to do this, but it would be funny as hell. Analyze your own ted-talk. giggles

Hey David, I started watching you over this weekend. And I caught a few things from here that I do in my every day, like the looking up, smiling a bit and inhaling, to the gesturing. Is this like normal human behavior to seem like you know what you are talking about / being likeable and so on? I have noticed that it helps a lot in my day to day conversations in conveying a message and make people feel ok with having a difference of opinion. Much love from a fellow scandinavian

I'm fine with a variety of people you react to. I was one of those people who had no idea who Jordan B Peterson was before clicking on this video, and after this I'm going to go try and find some of his lectures to watch! Your analyses of these different people is incredibly enjoyable to watch, and I've started to realize why various professors from high school/college stood out to me so much and why I enjoyed their classes as much as I did. It's giving me something to aspire towards, as well, which is always healthy. Congrats on 100k subscribers in advance, btw! You're at 99.1k at the time of this comment's posting.

Yep, this seems accurate. I've been a huge fan of professor Peterson for years and devour every lecture, podcast, and talk I can find. And I never grow tired of it. I've watched his 2015 Personality course at least 5 times in its entirety. It is rare that I can listen to something instructive so many time without getting bored because I have a pretty strong auditory memory. I've always felt that there was something in his cadence that kind of allows you to "recharge" in mid paragraph. I love listening to Ben Shapiro as well, but he can be draining sometimes because there isn't a lot of time to recharge without stopping. Is there something to that you think?
