The amount of thought put into this is almost terrifying. It's more thought than what most ACTUAL city planners put into there REAL plans. This is truly remarkable. Wow.
@elementalgolem54982 жыл бұрын
thats because actual city planners are not also architects, roadway engineers, director of public transit and park designers. theres so many parts of making a city a city planner has no say over. hence they dont put them into the plans, a city planner is responsible for the layout of new developments, limited by where its allowed to build. zoning in different parts of the city, limited by the policies and laws put in place. and making sure site developers aren't making plans that would conflict with the cities goals. essentially a city planner is a overseer of the different developers. while here he has the role of the roadway engineer, urban developer, public transport director, and many many more. giving him not only more controll, but more work

Imagine, if you will, if there was a KZbin channel where viewers could propose a building or project to be added and the KZbinr was only really able to approve or deny the proposals. Then we could judge them in comparison with city planners, as of right now "mayors" in cities skylines are more of a dictator. Basically Tropico without the tropical dictator social commentary.

This city is absolutely insane. Something straight out of the year 2300 (gotta give some time for humanity to rebuild from the apocalypse) It's hard to identify any real world cities from which you drew inspiration. (brand new Chinese cities maybe?) In alot of ways makes this build far more impressive: you're not trying to rebuild or emulate anything, you are simply doing you, what works, and what is logical, and this build is very logical, insanely detailed and every city corner, semicircle or wedge intersection offers something new and unique. I remember watching some early builds years ago and I am impressed to see you complete to the extent that you have. Although this is a fantasy city, there is enough diversity in everything that you have done that it reads like a satellite image of real city...This is the most realistic futuristic city build I have seen anyone do thus far. And boy does it look like it took you forever. Mad props to you...even if designing and building this thing sorta kinda makes you a monster ;)

Aurelia started out as a very ambitious project, and you have succeeded in your endeavor. It's funny, because there is no such thing as a "finished" city, right? The inhabitants are born, grow, and die off, and the cycle repeats itself. Cities change constantly, even if limits are placed on their lateral growth (which I appreciate that you used as a constraint). I very much admire the sensibilities you demonstrated in this build. It is beautiful, thought-provoking, and shows quite a lot of elegance in the engineering. Thank you for sharing such meticulous work.

Slight public transport nerd here: Transport-technically this is an excellently connective network, and I am incredibly impressed. This is seriously one of the bus transport networks I've ever seen in cities Skylines. If you'd be interested in some minor feedback: There is a few minor quality-of-use things I'd consider doing differently: I'd take out the bus connection to the southernmost rail station in the suburbs and connect the two buses in the suburb together. The connection to that railway station is largely redundant while local cross-connectivity in that area of the suburbs is rather poor, which could easily be solved this way. In-line with this above philosophy, the second change would be the introduction of a ferry line that actually serves a notable public transport purpose rather then just beaty: Starting at the waterfront suburban bus terminal and heading to the downtown stadiums and mall accross the river. It gives a fast connection between the waterfront areas and the bus line to the southern suburbs to the aforementioned destinations, working as a useful feeder for people traveling between the suburbs and the stadium/mall. I would also consider re-routing the autonomous shuttle bus in the far north-east to, instead of heading over the oval roundabout, take the next bridge down east, covering some of the areas of the suburb there that are right on that walking-distance border where the network really isn't adequate for a chunk of people living there. It does seem like this might require some infrastructural adjustments. If such adjustments aren't desirable, a second Olli to cover this bit might be an alternate solution. *On the downtown loop bus lines:* If cities skylines didn't frequently mess up passenger distribution when adding support lines along the same trajectories, I'd consider inserting the loop and either increasing the frequency on the busy section by adding a support line along part of the route and operating both loops and the support with smaller buses, or doing the same thing but instead dropping the frequency of the lines somewhat to run them all with articulated buses. There's substantial benefits to the increased direct connections in the convenience of use of transport- although in this case that transport planning concept might not translate too well to the game.
@ThisBeWe3 жыл бұрын
Yes, exactly what I was thinking! Expanding on this; you could have all the bus lines intersecting with the others. Thus creating a bus corridor network, on which you can multiply the number of lines. Then have them crisscross the network in different patterns to ensure the least possible transfers.
@RamblinRick_2 жыл бұрын
I'm very suprised by the length of the tram lines. I use trams within a small localized area. The trams share stops with the mtro lines which carry Cims the greater distance. I would have use metros for the distance of your tram lines. I guess it's time for me to rethink my transport philosphy.
@regulate.artificer_g23.mdctlsk2 жыл бұрын
I think you don't need to rethink that much. It's just that his trams are more of a hybrid; really, those are tram-trains which are light and slightly lower capacity than a conventional metro. His tram lines are long, yes, but the distance between stations are short and it runs parallel to heavier transit for the most part. So really, the trams in Aurelia still only serve a small local area, just that this "area" is more of a line than a shape within a region.

I quite like Ur network! Though I have 2 suggestions: On the tramline that ends in the very opper right (north-east?) corner in that residential area, I would have build a ring and lead the line back on one of its 2 other small bridges upper "north". On that way, this area would be much better connected. U could even build one more sation on the north shore on the main island, if U'd lead the line together over that bridge back where the busline passes as well. The second gap that sprung into my eyes concerns the shore-area on the main-island, opposite to that artificial orange star-island: There I would suggest to carry on the tram-line that ends at the round building, "south" untill to the first light-rail station there. Other than that, the city looks ro me quite perfectly connected.

@MrCalls13 жыл бұрын
I’m not a transit guy. But from what I’ve observed. People seem to draw a distinction between ‘trams that run substantially on roads’ and light rail/‘trams that run on (almost) fully segregated networks’. So a light rail is more like a train. But what makes it not a train is the frequency, weight of the carriages(this affects the visual appearance and also acceleration and braking meaning in a pinch it can manage running on unsegregated tracks), lower speed(60/80mph max vs 100/120mph), and most importantly the height platforms, a light rail should have no step between the platform and carriage, whereas a system does have that step, which makes it substantially harder to have disabled and buggy access.

Lots of cities have different levels of light rail transit - e.g. some cities in Europe have mostly street running tram lines that go underground in short downtown segments that are called "pre-metros" and others have both trams and light rail where a particular line might run more like a tram in some areas and run more like a subway in others - like Stuttgart and basically most other larger German cities.
@AutoGamerZ_3 жыл бұрын
@@unknownPLfan The Hague in the Netherlands is interesting in regards to that subject: RandstadRail lines 3 and 4 basically work as a fully grade-seperated regional rail line (former regional rail allignment actually) in the south-east where it also shares parts of it's route with a Rotterdam metro line (which also is running on former regional rail allignments in that area), then are elevated and tunneled in the city centre and continue into the west of The Hague as a street running tram. The fact it's basically essentially a metro (giving combined frequency with an actual metro on the same tracks part of the way), regional rail (Section to Zoetermeer), tram (west of the hague) and grade-seperated lightrail (Central area) at the same time, while running with (partially) low-floor light-rail vehicles originally intended for regional-tram services (rather then local ones). This makes it an excellent example of a city transport system that really blurs the line between different modes of railway transportation.

I think the only thing really unrealistic about it is that few real world cities have the budget for such a dense rail transit network. It's perhaps aspirational more than anything else. The downtown parts of Aurelia are also REALLY dense from the looks of it.

@@unknownPLfan Well, I think that it depends on the people who are managing the functions of the city and money. But I thought more about this that in real life there are some reasons why there are bus or tram stops which are used by more than only one line.
