The smaller size and tight interior of the 'Cuda is one of the MAIN things I LIKE about 'Cudas. Black '71 AAR is the GREATEST car EVER. To each his own. '69 Charger is my second favorite car. The size is my least favorite quality. '68 is a CLOSE second. ALL of them look GREAT from EVERY angle.

The 70 340 Cuda is very close to my favorite classic era Mopar. I still like the 68 Charger more, but these are a very cool, well balanced car. A neighbor had one back in the late 70s almost exactly like this, but it was Sublime green and I think he had Cragars on it if I remember right. It had headers, and I don't know if there were any other mods on the engine, but he could shut down a lot of other cars with it. Very quick, and sounded awesome.

The 340 in an E body is a well-balanced combo for street performance. However, 66-67 B bodies with a 340 or 360 swap can also be very good. Well-balanced meaning weight to power potential.

I read an interview of a Chrysler body designer, he mentioned how proud they were of the mandated side marker lights they had developed. The recessed mounting and graphics applied were of note to his recollection. Then came 1972 and the lower line cars, like the Newport, got cheapened screw on side markers, he said it was a disappointing turn of events. This 70 Cuda is a good example of what they were onto.

In my humble opinion, the 1970 340 Chrysler put in these small cars was a monster, They wond these engine up so tight yet you can beat the piss out of them and they keep giving you more. Plus the weight reduction compared to the heavy monster big blocks made the 1970 Cuda's and Challengers screechers. How could anyone not love it? Only problem was many of these found themselves wrapped around telephone poles,,😅

You want to talk flooded, I worked on a Saab 900 turbo years ago. The fuel pressure regulator went bad and let full tank pressure {approx. 100psi} to the injectors. Needless to say, all the cylinders filled with fuel which filled the block too. The intercooler was full of gas like a mini radiator and so was the turbo. I drilled a little pinhole in the converter to drain the fuel out of it. Once I got it running it sat in the parking lot idling for an hour. It smoked like a freight train for a while then cleared up .

That Cuda is nearly a clone of mine, besides the color (mines FE5) an factory (Hamtramck) everything else is the same...well at least it was from the factory. Good tip on the shims to know which size wheels it came with, as there's no option code for that, I don't know what it came with, I'll have a look next time. It does have mint 15" Rally wheels right now, but they're not original to the car.

I will always wish I'd held out for a 340, or bought a spare one way back then... but I have a Challenger, and it has the curves and the hips, unlike the snake-hips angle-window Barracuda/Cuda; with my car I am well pleased. I always hated those bolt together battery terminals, but I've been inculcated in the church of high quality soldered connections and adequate grounds. I hope the owner does something about both battery cables... A question; my mechanic uncles always ran a brief flush oil change whenever the crankcase got wrong fluids in it. Drain all the things, cheap oil filter, cheap oil fill, run for a few minutes then drain, new filter, and refill with the desired oil. Is that not a thing anymore? Or maybe for gas in the oil it isn't as needed? Thanks!
@DeadDodgeGarage
@DeadDodgeGarage Ай бұрын
Oh that’s a fine idea. I will recommend a shorter oil change interval, but I’m not overly concerned with the minimal amount of gas remaining. Hopefully, it will gradually evaporate with driving and heat cycles.

@DeadDodgeGarage
@DeadDodgeGarage Ай бұрын
It’s not a problem I have seen that often, so I don’t really know. Most of these cars are not daily drivers, and the diaphragm sits submerged in gasoline - generally modern gas too. So it’s a small wonder this would be an issue. Generally speaking, a mechanical pump is a mechanical pump. They’re damn near identical no matter which manufacturer you’re dealing with.

That car is considerably larger than the old E body Barracuda and its slightly longer Challenger like the one featured here ('Cuda 340). The LD Challenger is more like the size of the B body cars that you prefer for more interior space (more of a large intermediate).

Now you have an opportunity to test my story. The front end will “fly” at 130mph. Big block cars will Not. Use caution, we found that if you blow right through the 130mph mark the car will flip. Hence the “rare” nature of existing 340 Cudas and Challengers. I am very thankful we lost no friends, just cars.

Beautiful car! Could it simply be marking it's territory? (I'm commenting before watching the video)

That beautiful car needs one of my exhaust manifold heat shields.

It does. Also, I need one if you have the ‘71 style 😁

@@DeadDodgeGarage you know I was considering reproducing those because the heat shield parts are very close to the same but it attaches to the air cleaner heat stove if I’m not mistaken. Wonder what the demand would be?

Just wondering if there is a mechanical fuel pump that doesn't dump fuel into the crankcase if the diaphragm shats the bed?

The funny part is that they all have weep holes, but I’ve seen this happen multiple times anyway.

My 62 880 suffered the same diaphragm failure. It still ran tho but kinda. Two back to back oil changes and it was fine. Diaphragms is so stupid.

Call it what you want, It’s still an ammeter. And that one is indicating a problem if it is constantly registering excessive charging current.

I never said it wasn’t. My problem is with the pedantic tendency to insult the intelligence of someone referring to a gauge by what it is labeled. I will continue to bring attention to those among us who want to behave that way. It’s ridiculous. That gauge is STUCK. I explained that in the video. It is not at all reflective of the current state of the charging system. I explained that too.

@@DeadDodgeGarage As to be expected, yet another smart-ass retort. “Pedantic tendency”, “insult the intelligence of someone”, really, that’s what you took away from that comment? Again, the gauge/cluster label styling variations for that gauge over all the past Chrysler production years/platforms (i.e. “ALT”, “ALTERNATOR”, “BATT”, “AMPS”, “APHERES” or whatever) means nothing as to what the device is technically called. There is nothing trivial or inconsequential about using the correct terminology when discussing technical material at any level of detail. May be missing the point, your ammeter wordplay may be intended to have some kind of entertainment value, just not sure. Like I said, you call it whatever you want. I stand corrected, I did miss the part about that ammeter being mechanically stuck.
