Now they should do a video on the cold blooded assassination by FBI agents of Filiberto Ojeda Rios. If you notice, the man who was narrating the events of the statue of liberty takeover had a shirt with his name on it. He was gunned down by a sniper and left to bleed out on his porch on the day Ricans celebrate "El Grito de Lares" , a short lived independance against Spanish imperialism. His killing on that day delivered a clear message by the US gov. towards anyone who wants independance and is willing to fight for it.

I'm Puerto Rican and you really shouldn't listen to this people. They are Puerto Ricans that live in the U.S and some of them have never even set foot in Puerto Rico in their lives. Just look at the fact that there are more Puerto Ricans living in the U.S than in Puerto Rico. A lot of Puerto Ricans like to talk about how P.R should be a independent country but as soon as the island was hit by a hurricane they moved moved to the U.S. The whole independent movement is a joke in my opinion. On the island it's mainly supported by old people who grew up in areas without a lot of education and It's more of a scapegoat than a true movement.

TBLE To help you out and speak like adults in a conversation which some people seem to struggle with being childish, rude comments and lazy. Fred Hampton was a Panther leader in Chicago, he was killed during a joint raid of police with the FBI in his apartment with another Panther. The guy you mentioned that fled the country I can not recall his name but he was a Panther who did leave the country before authorities caught up to him. That did happen I just can not remember his name right off hand. As far as I know you are right he did never return to the states. Fred was a young man when he died so I would imagine the other guy was around Fred’s age. I am not certain on the rest of the story regarding the guy that left the country.

If you look at history, when there are no other means for a small nation or group to defeat a stronger power and achieve liberty, then violence is usually their only alternative. So in your world view even the founding fathers of America weren’t patriots against the stronger power of Britain. I personally dont like violence but i understand when the options to fight for freedom are taken from you, then like Malcolm X said, “by any means necessary!!” And btw if you have that flag as your thumbnail thats a shame because you then dont truly understand its meaning. @@michaelsteal9128 well that is not something you can comprehend but I'll give it my best shot. What you have described is quiete literally what an autonomous states is. They exist all over the world because, unlike the US, European colonies were mostly recognized to be sovereign a long time ago. The US could also recognize the overwhelming support for statehood in the island. But well all know the US has no interest in the people. I mean the only reason we got citizenship was so that they could draft us into WW1. Also, mind you Puerto Ricans are currently dual citizens because Puerto Rican citizenship is recognized by the SCOTUS and by virtually every Puerto Rican. It's really not that difficult thing to adopt considering that we are about half way there.

Alex It figures someone like you would be on here making excuses for this and that citing some 106 years ago when WW1 started. I have yet to read any where that WW1 was victorious because of those expert marksmen from Puerto Rico. Let’s not mention of the dilapidated state Puerto Rico is by your own local leaders who have generously stuffed their pockets with federal funding for over a century. They do not and never have cared about their own people in Puerto Rico by thinking of themselves all the while PR literally has fell apart. That recent far left female mayor of PR sure made a fool out of herself playing the victim on television. I wonder what she did with her cut of the federal funding that never made it to benefit PR and it’s people?? Let’s blame it on the U.S. because local leaders did nothing as the economy fell and put a large majority of the people in poverty. The infrastructure of basic necessities such as power, clean water etc. The state of PR is in the shape it is today and for decades now because of its own people who abuse the funds for their own benefit. It’s easy to blame the U.S. for all it’s problems though the overwhelming population does NOT want to be independent when surveyed many times so it must not be so bad to reap the benefits of the U.S.. Yet so easy to attempt to bite the hand that feeds you with your words and excuses. I could careless what happened 106 years ago because I do not live in the past but to gain a few extra men in a military conflict in exchange for the Billions of dollars paid to them and many generations after them all these decades is hardly a fair deal for the U.S. or any of its tax payers. You keep trying to make that point though regardless how pathetic it sounds. Points and facts sound much better if it is at least in the past decade or 2. Thereafter if just doesn’t hold much merit. It’s too common for people such as yourself to point the finger at someone else for your problems. I can guarantee you that PR gets many many more benefits by being part of the U.S. than the U.S. benefits from PR. Every person has their fair share of problems and that’s perfectly normal but when that very small percentage of people like yourself want to blame everyone else for their problems. That is when it get ridiculous so do us a favor while saving yourself some embarrassment. 100 + years ago is a joke... Current to 10 years is more relevant and in those years that really matter. The U.S. is far from your problem or anyone else’s in PR.
@TheRealWinser
@TheRealWinser 4 жыл бұрын
@@tble2438 Thanks for showing you have zero knowledge regarding this topic. The net gain from all trade between the US and PR benefits the US by a large margin. Also, why do people always bring up the insular politics when we are talking about sovereignty and equality. It is not that difficult. We just want to be treated fairly. You also showed zero knowledge when you called our current governor "far left" when she is part of the conservative party aligned with the GOP. I have never heard someone make the argument that our status would somehow free us from corruption. I guess there is always a first. You can be ignorant of history all you want but it wont change it one bit. And if we are going to stay on the topic of corruption... how are those politicians that committed insider trading before the pandemic announcement was made?

Idk what would be fuel to the fire but I just want to add something to the fire You know the Puerto Rican nationalist party was still continuing to spew nationalistic views after the Law 53 Gag Law put into effect in 1948 which was a law made to hopefully stop the growth of the Puerto Rican independence movement. We can’t forget about the Nationalist dislike of the US government because in 1937, several hundred protesters were shot by police under the order of an American placed governor, Blanton Winship, resulting in 27 dead. Around 2 years before, the same occured to 4 nationalists, where they were killed by police. In the 50s, the leader of the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party, Pedro Albizu Campos, continued with speeches about independence and workers rights. This was met with several arrests of colleagues and the Party response was several uprisings throughout the island as retaliation against the US government. The taking of Jayuya and Utuado were a surprise to the police and government, unaware of an uprising. However after US bombings and swift operations, the nationalists were beaten. Many other uprisings occured, in San Juan, Arecibo, Mayagüez, Ponce, and various other cities, though not as populated as the ones stated. At the end, several Puerto Ricans died, mainly nationalists. In order for Americans not to hear about the struggles on the island, the US government suppressed any informational about the revolts, and were clearing out any patches of resistance from guerilla fighters. The revolts lasted for 4 and a half years...most “battles” occurring in 1950 or 1954. Was that the right fuel...maybe Vice can make something out of this because this was a surprisingly vague telling of the whole situation, after all it’s several decades of history stored in a little amount.
