These "investors" only bring a handful of jobs, but definitely destroy our natural resources. They don't understand our culture, our pride and also want to impose their views about the world, and tell us what's best for us. They buy buildings, evict working class people, and transform these buildings into hotels and bars in places thar would otherwise be peaceful and quiet. What Boricuas must understand is that we can’t solve that problem without solving the bigger one. Boriken, the indigenous people’s name for Puerto Rico, has been a United States (US) colony for the past 124 years. According to the Treaty of Paris of 1898, the rights of Puerto Ricans shall be determined by the US government (USG). That is to say that Puerto Ricans have no right that the USG has to respect. Therefore, the so-called “government of Puerto Rico” is, in essence, the USG! Since the purpose of colonialism is exploitation, the net result has been that more Boricuas today reside outside of our own national territory. Moreover, about half of the Boricuas living in Boriken today live in poverty. So you see, the problem is much larger than the privatization of public beaches. The solution is, however, about putting pressure! Because colonialism is a crime against humanity, the 9 million Boricuas worldwide should engage in permanent resistance to force the USG to comply with the 40 United Nations resolutions asking it to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. Boricuas must put pressure now, tomorrow and forever!

This reminds me of Hawai’i back in the day, when colonialism came and ruined the fauna and flora of Hawai’i. Went to a famous reef last year in Hawai’i…coral is grey and water is murky.

@@jonnyfendi2003 I say yes and no. Puerto Rico is an “island nation” commonwealth with not a a lot of wealth and no nation. It cannot be free, or be allowed to joined. Its a shame what the USA has done to it, honestly. I think they rather be one or the other, but not both. Uncle Sam wont allow it, however. Either make it a state, so it can join the union and get all the benefits needed like any other state or allow it to be free.

We love americans from the mainland, but the laws implemented by the government give too much benefits to outsiders, rent has increase by 35% to 45% in some places, while the wages stay almost the same 🙌🏼

Please do your research because there are incentive for local & I will name one to get you started. Dont let the news fool you , we still pay taxes however less & we have to also give money to a nonprofit. ($10K). In terms of incentive, the problem is you have to do your homework & everyone wants everything handed to them. Gentrification is a damm good thing. My property is worth so much more. Without gentrification I would not be able to get the funds to buy another property. PR has a homebuyers program where a first time home buyer can get $55k and you only have to live there for 5 years. . Ask any young PR about it and they would rather rent because they need money for the weekend car club they are a part of. So many excuses . Oh cant forget starting a business. PR want locals to start business however you have to put in the work as there a few more steps. I tell all my friends, Google is your friend .. Go and find the help.

Puerto Rico has a lot of liabilities on its balance sheet. This tells me they do not have many other options to raise revenue. Can they raise taxes on its citizens? Can they attract businesses to the island to provide jobs and increase income to collect more tax revenue or do they privatize any and all natural resources to gain revenue from private business. There is a reason private sectors have all of the capital. Private businesses are forced to operate and increase margins. Governments are not concerned about margin because they can deficit spend. Deficit spending in private business is debt with creditors that expect a return. Central banks can go forever without foreclosing on government debt but the credit decreases the value of currency while increasing the cost of living on workers.
