Nice house. Don't know about the bars on all the windows. Feels like you're in prison. I guess the crime rate must be high in that area.

"Rejas" are common on all houses on Vieques, and almost throughout Puerto Rico. Those that don't have them, have security windows or security alarms.

Not necessarily, many home are build with the bars to protect the windows, mainly if they are glass, from flying debris specially during hurricane season, instead of having to board up the window every year take down after every hurricane, and have damaged concrete, in the long run it'll be cheaper.
