he doesn't hold a candle to jimmy. the pumpkins are the greatest band ever, in my opinion. he's lucky to have even graced the stage with them.

i love the girls behind the stage dancing.

Yeah, it's pretty cool...but it's also a testament to Jimmy's greatness that the band needed 3 drummers to replace him.

Jimmy was great but I think they had a lot more percussion on the adore album, so they got 2 more percussionists for their live shows to be able to replicate whatever was on the album

well.. I remember watching that on tv when I was 15.. almost 10 years ago! I was a Pumpkins fan its been a couple years aready. But you guys have to understand that most of the crowd there was around this same age and they had never heard of The Smashing Pumpkins before (they pick kids from schools ramdomly and send them in excursions to the show), not even talk about knowing the lyrics of the band's new album!

I don't care how good he is only how good he is drumming on the Pumpkins. On that point I don't envy him or any other drummer in that role, because for me Jimmy's drumming is a key element to the Pumpkins sound. I don't know how or what Jimmy did, because I don't know another band where the drummer's absence makes such a significant impact on the sound.

Love this live version. impressive, expansive percussion team with Matt Walker or Kenny? Love D'arcy in frame in the band. Of course the band is better and top notch with Jimmy he...this was the beginning of the end of the 90's original Pumpkins saga cuz you feel, notice Billy doesn't give a F anymore...constant band drama and personal drama..that's life eh

Kenny Aronoff is amazing for a studio drummer. Obviously the best in terms of studio drummers. Jimmy could be his own act on drums though. His drumming has a "melody" of its own. Kenny is just really good at doing rhythms and not getting in the way. I think thats the main difference between them.

really great, this was the real smashing pumpkins, without jimmy, but what the hell.

I remember watching that at afternoon... i was 15 by the time. I also remember them giving the guitars to the girls... now I wonder if they really gave it away, or the roadies came back for it later...
@aimson15 жыл бұрын
Here is a quote from Drummerworld: "With a style of playing that combines power and finesse, Kenny was named the #1 Pop/Rock Drummer and the #1 Studio Drummer for five consecutive years by the readers of Modern Drummer Magazine, and in addition has played on over 30 Grammy-nominated recordings." So yeah, lay off Kenny Aronoff, he's a great drummer and adds an interesting style that you can either like or dislike. Personally, I prefer Jimmy.

Exactly, this is one of those moments we fans are afraid of. This is one of the most akward situations i´ve seen for a band. i know it´s not really the kids fault, but this has no chemistry at all. It is like watching people dancing to Losing my Religion by R.E.M on a disco. If i was Billy I would have kick and scream my lungs out until i spit someone & crash the guitar & rip my shirt off with a roar until all those dancing girls get the hell out of there ASAP crying.

It actually doesn't take 3 drummers to play this song. They don't play the song like this all the time with a brazil flavor to it. And Jimmy didn't use the drums the other 2 guys were using.

It's funny because I always thought Jimmy was unimposing on the band's sound and kind of gave room for Billy. So I'd agree with you but add that he had great impact despite his lack of desire to take center stage. People might have disliked Kenny's... loudness. I'd also factor in that Jimmy wasn't replaced to change the band's sound, he was fired from the band. Perhaps his presence would have had other unintended negative impact on the quality of the band or performances at the time?

bring back D'arcy and Iha!!!! They will allways be half of the Pumpkins sound. Waronker gives it some welly,no doubt, but somehow Jimmy seems to vibe off the vocals better... Fucking great ending! genius

@jrw0001 It doesn't quite work in this performance but I've heard some performances of Pug with the same set-up from around the same time and they kick ass. The shitty sound on this video doesn't really help.

@GFY17 жыл бұрын
I don't know anything about Aronoff but I assume he's talented, but he really did ruin this song. If the drums were just a little more laid back this would have been great. He just sat there and pounded on the drums as hard as he could-surprised he didn't break them.
@isaacnoroncaasi2 жыл бұрын
That's exactly what I was going to say. The lack of dynamics ruined the performance.

As Talented as the drummer seems to be, I can't help but point out that all I can hear is the un-melodic "thud" and can not appreciate the actual song or lyrics with this Energizer bunny trying to steal the show.

yeh, it takes 3 drummers to play this song... Jimmy could have played by himself better than these 3 put together
