it's totally plausible! episodes like born yesterday and rug island already toy around with childlike wonder and sensitivity. and it'd be a great way to speak to the parents/adults in the same way baby race did, a healthy way to embrace and accept needing help and seeking someone to listen and nudge you in the right direction instead of bashing your head against the wall trying to figure it out.

You really opened my eyes when you mentioned the idea of Calypso being a deliberately flawless character. It does make sense the more I look back on the show: She has no flaws because she's not really meant to be a relatable character like the other adults: she's supposed to have a certain sense of distance and aboveness, because she's supposed to come across almost like a guardian angel or spirit guide figure. Not in a literal sense, but more like an ethereal guide and guardian who watches over people and guides them through life.

I love that Calypso’s solution to Jack’s problems was not to fix it herself, but to point him to another child who could help him. It goes to show that sometimes the best way to help a child isn’t always with the guidance of a teacher, or even their parents, but rather to pair them with the right friend who can help them see what they can accomplish. I can’t express how much I’m growing to love this show and its characters.

Sometimes a student just doesn't want to play with others at that moment. They may be tired or hungry or stressed. Also children aren't just miniature adults and what we may be able to tolerate might be unbearable for them at that moment. And vice versa.

Another great moment like that is in the episode where Jack's dad doesn't know how to get to his school and Jack is in the boat. All his friends are gone. He's saying there are no supplies left. It's been like 100 days. Calypso yells to see if he's ok and he immediately sits up, smiles, and says he's fine. Wonderful, the dual experience of playing to explore feelings, but also being technically totally fine as well.

Mackenzie’s trauma doesn’t seem like much, but as someone with acute panic disorder, the outside doesn’t have to be when on the inside, things are amplified. I used to be scared of everything, and constantly needed my mom at my side to feel safe. The smallest things would freak me out so bad as if there was a demon controlling my soul. It was scary. Calypso is like the caring, patient, sympathetic parental figure we needed growing up but didn't have. Neither of my parents ever had sympathy for my traumatic experiences, one similar to MacKenzie where my mom abandoned me at a carnival to go and drink. While Calypso is a fictional character, she is written so beautifully that she feels real and her guidance in the episode Space really hits home for me. The writers of this show are amazing at their art, and I hope they continue to use Calypso to serve as a caring voice not only to the characters in Bluey, but to the audience as well ❤

I think Calypso ends up having little attention to her possible flaws simply because she isnt the focus of the episodes she appears in but rather serves a support role to the stories of the children she watches over. The other adults and especially the parents usually are more fleshed out as many of the lessons are intended for them.

I think so, too. Speaking as a teacher, I like Calypso's approach to addressing conflict and guiding her students, but I also know that not all teachable moments are as easily remedied with kids and I imagine she's failed to help kids the best way because no teacher is perfect. My favorite cartoon teacher is probably the one from Clarence or anyone from Recess, where you see they are also humans with messy lives doing their best.

I am a big fan of Montessori mindset. Even though it was only during kindergarten, I never forgot how my Montessori school helped shape my creativity and social play. I owe a lot of the openness of that space for how I was able to keep my learning in check years in the future. It’s all about a child as an individual and guiding them to the lesson based on their personal outlook and style of learning. Calypso encapsulates this so well in just a single character. And even the beautiful and comforting look of the school adds to that character itself.

I also never got much guidance from someone who was understanding about my mental health conditions and the symptoms… I was never like other kids so I had both adults and other kids who just didn’t understand. In one of the episodes you can see her watching the children play in the background (I think the episode was space or army but cant remember for sure) so she definitely tries to keep an eye on them even when they're outside. I'm not too sure how successful she is because she had to keep an eye on 10+ kids and there's forest and fields that the kids can hide in. It's also not clear how big the boundaries of the play area for the kids is it looks huge in the episodes but sometimes things looks huge for kids and it's actually kinda small. So in conclusion Calypso probably just needs another staff member who can help keep an eye on the kids when they are outside especially if they go far away or into the forest/field or anywhere else where the kids may be less visible.

In Wild Girls when Coco even suggests that Calypso could be wrong, Indy was horrified and refused to believe it. And in every episode that Calypso appears, the kids are never afraid to go to her for comfort or ask sensitive questions. The fact that all the kids see their teacher as a guardian angel they can always rely on is one of the most wholesome and inspiring things in the series.

I think it's because in most other children media, the teacher is portrayed as this bully or antagonist. Literally, the only like nice teacher in cartoons I can think of is the hippie teacher from Disneys recess, Miss Grotke. And that is literally the only one I can think of at the top of my head.... maybe also Mister Sikowitz from Victorious. Looking at Calypso keeping this in mind: she is shown to be a very caring and gentle teachers figure, addressing each kid individually and looking at what they do and giving hints who they could connect their game to without them forcing to do it. She isn't that big mean powerful monster most teachers are shown as in cartoons and the classroom is also shown as this warm cozy place and not an empty cold environment one wouldn't want to be in. School isn't portrayed as this dreading hell one must go to but a place the kids like and are not afraid of. It is quite refreshing seeing a teacher and a school environment to be nice and pleasant. I know when I grew up, teachers in particular were almost always maniacs ^^'

I love Calypso so much. She looks so soft and fluffy and i wanna give her a hug 🖤🤍🧡 I don't really mind her being without flaws. She's the only character who we only see at her job, whereas most of the characters we see them almost exclusively in their private lives, so it makes sense to me that she would feel a little different. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing her flaws, but i don't want it either

As is, Calypso isn't even really an actual character, in my opinion, but rather "just" a shining beacon and leading example for the kids. Which of course is pretty much her role as a teacher, and in that setting it wouldn't be really appropriate for her to showcase her personal struggles, that she, like anyone else probably has. Could make for an interesting episode, that offers an opportunity for growth for one of the kids, to get a glimpse behind this facade and learning that everyone has their own personal struggles in life, even some idealised figure like Calypso.

What I find endearing about Calypso is that, despite not knowing precisely everything her kids get up to, she recognises the remorse and inner pains they have through which she connects with them. These inspire her play setups, where she also casually lets them in on the beauties of the world from her perspective. I like to think that, with Pugly having highlighted how in the previous video to this one, Bandit's dissoluteness reflected creator Joe Brumm's, Calypso's role seems to reflect the creator's as a studio head in charge of the success that is his own show. Regards, Samuel Farris.

This is seriously the best video that you have produced in a while! Anyone can become a great teacher and a great listener like therapists, counsellors, fathers, mothers, friends, other family relatives as well as grandparents. "Emotional and Social Guidance" is really something that I can relate to in my life. For a long time, I have no friends and am pretty much of an introvert. Even though I really want to try to make small conversations with others, I just give up that idea because I thought " I can't do this. If no one wants to talk to me, then I will not try. I am not as confident as others; I will never be like them!". Sometimes, I keep thinking that I am not good enough just like others. And I keep avoiding things that I am not good at. But that is not the point. Even though I am very different from everybody else and am pretty much idiosyncratic, I do have my own strengths and weaknesses. Besides there are always people who keep pushing me in the right direction and people who always keep guiding me into doing what is right and what is best. And that is when I thought of a quote like "Just because you have these bad qualities, it doesn't mean that you are a bad person; it makes you different and better." So, despite having these doubts, I am able to control my emotions. It also make me realize that it doesn't matter whether people want to talk to me or not. There are people who always count on me and never give up on me. Lastly, Calypso definitely reminds me of Princess Celestia from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic as Celestia is also a great teacher, listener and a pillar of strength like Calypso.

"You know what's here now. You don't need to keep coming back to this place" is so insanely powerful and so beautiful. As a child who is still working through her trauma, that resonates with me on such a deep level. The moment you learn to let go and accept that what has happened has happened, and that you don't have to keep returning to that place, is so freeing. It's like the weight of the world is pulled off your shoulders. I've had a very rough life, but have only now began to recover. So rarely is trauma portrayed well in media... in a bizarre way I feel seen. In a world where the adults I depended on the most had failed me, even without a loving gentle voice to tell me that everything'll be ok and that the bad can't hurt me anymore, I still surviced. You will survive. Your friend will survive. We all will. We just recover at a different pace and at different ways. I didn't have anyone. I recovered by learning how my mind worked and through prayer. Psychology and videogames helped me. While my friend recovered by talking to me. While you might recover with time. Or, like Mackenzie, all your friend needs is for the gentle voice of an adult to tell them that it's ok now. Such a beautiful scene. I envy those writers. These analyses have more than convinced me to watch Bluey. That whole analysis just made me emotional... bravo to you and the writers 👏

I love her design, she's got one amazing VA and seems to have something to teach to the kids AND adults who're watching. I'd love to see an episode where she's teching some adults. Not in a classroom, but just as she's going around somewhere. Or perhaps an episode where someone teaches her something? Maybe showing she's got her own struggles? I think that would add so much more depth to this already great character.

She's great because she speaks their language and communicates in a way they understand. Instead of giving specific orders and getting mad when kids don't follow them, she throws out ideas. She doesn't force people to play together. She just mentions that someone else is doing something that may be of interest. Also notice that she never uses words like "pretend" when describing things.

I wish I had a teacher like Calypso tbh. Growing up autistic, not diagnosed until recently (17yo rn), I was always feeling like there was something wrong with me. I wasn't struggling academically, nor was I yelling or antsy in class, so no teachers or doctors took notice until it did lower my grades in highschool. But even back then, socially, it was hard. I couldn't understand how the other kids communicated, I came across as quiet and awkward, and even if I tried to make friends, I got dirt kicked in my face. So I kinnndaaa just spend my recess digging up rocks. I still struggle with feeling like I can't understand people or feeling outcasted but at least, even if I did go undiagnosed that long, my 5th grade teacher gave me a spoon to dig rocks up with. Tho I did get a lot of similar comfort and answers out of Pokemon, specifically N in the unova games. First character I saw that felt like my reflection JFKAKD

Another 10/10 video from you. which is just standard for you by now. I like you brought up the goddess aspect the creators went for. I do notice something pretty interesting about Calypso. I don't think she has ever had a single line of diaologue with any parent. Even when Jack gets dropped off she only acknowledges Jack and Lulu. I honestly can't remember her ever addressing or directly talking to any parent or adult. Also, have we ever seen her outside the school? I honestly don't think so. If that is the case, it really adds to the mysical element of her. Like Calypso is this all caring being residing in a place just for children to learn. Of course I could be misremembering if she has been seen outside school or has interacted with other adults. I can certainly remember being the kids' age and thinking teachers only existed in school hahaha. I can see Calypso coming from a background in therapy, like you frankly. And, while not being magic (although I still think she has some magic abilites), I just think she is one of those people that can just connect with others. Meeting Jack and so quickly realizing that Rusty is the friend he needs basically proves that she has that natural empathetic ability to just connect with everyone. I would love to see her interact with the gang outside the shcool, and with Chili and the parents. I'd dare say she could be just as important to the parents as the kids are to her. Little headcannon theory to end off, how incredible would it be that we do get the wedding between Radly and the kids godmother (name escapes me at the moment) and the usually bobastious Radly is all nervous and Calypso is the one to show up and calm his nerves and reassures him. Now that would be something to end season 3 or start season 4 on. Beyond execellent video buddy. I do hope Ludo studios say my post about Pugly get a cameo is season 4 to interact with Jack. I look forward to your next video essay. Have a great day. Also your ending chuckle is too infeciously endering.

Nice review. 14:05 with Jack. I just realised, seeing your version, there was subtle editing at that pivotal treehouse moment in Army - makes you wonder why on Earth this must be changed.. In the Aussie version Jack replies with 'no, there's something wrong with me' which makes sense, the word wrong had just been used asking about school. However, in this version Jack replies 'no, there's something going on with me'. What the.

I honestly think a big reason why Calypso is seen as perfect, is simply because this show is supposed to be see through the eyes of a kid. In Bluey and the other kid’s minds, Calypso *is* perfect. She’s kind and caring, strong when she needs to be or when the kids need her to be and is truly passionate about teaching the kids.

I think the character i can compare Calypso is Edward from the Railway Series/Early Thomas and Friends, where he's a flawless, experienced character with wisdom he passes on or helps younger engines like for an example where percy ask edward in the episode deputation how to tell Sir Topham Hatt that they don't want to send one of the Twins(Donald or Douglas) away without coming off as rude or disrespectful. So edward tells percy that he needs a deputation and explains what that means to percy.

@ 1:53 I watched this particular segment like 5 times and kept wondering why it made me feel a certain way. I mean obviously it’s a few things, like what’s happening in the clips, the fact the clips themselves are well chosen and well edited (etc etc), but then I realized the song God is Really Real is playing in the background lmao. Couldn’t have picked a better instrumental for this And side note to that, the editing also does a fantastic job at lending itself to the music. Like how you matched the rise of the music with Calypso talking about them getting older, and at 2:31 with the screen cutting to black on beat. Bluey’s actions matching up with the guitar strums after is also the cherry on top. Anyhow, just a sucker for both AJR and good editing, and that into just struck me as especially well executed. Keep up the good work as always!
