Because pugs are also one of the most inbred of all dog breeds - all 10,000-plus of Britain's pugs are descended from just 50 animals. A study conducted by The Royal Veterinary College warns pugs face dire health risks due to INBREEDING, and concluded the dog breed can "no longer be considered as a typical dog from a health perspective." The consequences of inbreeding for their specific appearance have become detrimental to their overall health. Breeders kill the pups that dont posess desirable traits and many pups live excruciatingly painful lives with many disorders and disease, some hardly can function. Basically, they mate a brother and sister together that have the best looking traits(wrinkles, tail etc) and the offspring of those with the best traits are kept for breeding, the others are killed and or suffer deformities and disease. To understand the impacts more, the study looked at 4,308 pugs and 21,835 dogs of other breeds in the U.K., comparing their health profiles and odds of developing 40 common disorders The study found that pugs had an increased risk for 23 disorders, including being 54 times more likely to have brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome, 51 times more likely to have narrowed nostrils, 11 times more likely to have skin fold infections. In addition, 17.4% of the pugs were obese, compared to just 6.9% of other dogs. Not many will speak out because its bad for business. Its designed for breeders to charge top dollar for the cutest pug and veterinarians arent going to speak up because they make a killing on pug visits because their health issues. Every pug you buy from a breeder promotes the suffering and death of thousands of pugs

All dogs have problems. Goldens have hip dysplasia. Great dames die around 7 from problem. In breeding is easily fixed. My babaies have their paper work and their father was from America, I live in Australia. They have no problems with their noses or palates. They are breed to be lap/companion dogs. I can tell you my pugs are the happiest creatures you’ve ever seen, tails never stop. They play, sleep, cuddle and have walks.. no problems at all. Weight is an easy problem to fix and avoid. Do any of theses pugs look unhappy to you..? Do you know that 80% of Americans are obese? Do you think we should eliminate them too?

My pug of 19 years old had cataracts but he loved to eat and play regardless. My other pugs had no health problems. No skin fold infections, no joint problems, Very active and playful through their lives. UK must have more problems than in the US. Just clean their skin folds and ears. Saline eye drops for the big eye pugs.
