Just picked one of these up based largely on your review. Yes. Everything you said. After a good fret dressing and set-up, this thing is 99.9% as good as either of the two Fender American Originals I own. My example is just under 7 lbs, near perfect fit/finish, no sinking bridge so far, holds tune, and these pickups are kinda great! Also turns out to be about the quietest single coil guitar I own. Highly recommended. Thanks for the word on these guitars!

What a great review, Mike! I'm so glad I was able to make it up to WA so you could get your hands on this guitar and work your offset setup wizardry, because wow... this guitar feels unbelievably great to play now. Not that it was bad to play with my amateur setup, its just SO much better to play with yours! I am constantly getting so lost in the moment playing this guitar that I will completely lose any sense of time and place. And dude... Demo #5... THAT is the sound! I definitely haven't looped it 50 times at work because it's so good... Hopefully some day I can learn to coax everything out of this guitar like you do. I am so grateful for this setup! Seriously, thank you!

Really good review. As a matter of fact it went a long way towards helping me decide to purchase this guitar, but in the Sea Foam Green finish. You have the most complete break down of the specs over any other review I watched or read. Fir instance, you are the only one who mentioned that the neck pocket was routed to provide the proper break angle and that is the kind of info we are really interested in. I will say that overall, the neck and the pick ups are what pushed me to buy and your demo gave those features the best light.

I received the Seafoam green 40th anniversary Jazzmaster last week. They were dirt cheap at Thomann and now they are discontinued. I spend two evenings to filing/polishing the nut, polishing the frets, removing fret ends, rolling off the finger board , adjusting pick-up heigths and set the relief for my liking but I couldn't get the guitar stay in the tune after trem usage. I want to sincerely thank you for your advice on sanding down the pivot plate edges. It has a very soft alloy pivot plate .That did the trick for me. The tuning is rock solid now after extreme pulls en dive bombs. I use 010 ernie balls but I'm considering 011 strings for this guitar. The trem system is fine now but not perfect, it could be smoother....I don't know if a AVRI or staytrem will be a significant upgrade. In general this guitar plays as good as my USA Tele's and Strats. The neck is fantastic and after adjusting the bridge pick-up height it sounds right! For €298 this was a no-brainer. Thank you for this beautiful and informative channel. It's offset heaven.

Another great video Mike! Squier is always killing it with their offsets and that's exactly why I prefer buying from them than Fender. The price to quality ratio is just SO much better.
@bandofhuman2 жыл бұрын
I have this model. I absolutely love it. What sold it for me was that vibey sound and of course the really unique look. Out of the box it played ok, but I decided to dive deep and learn about offset setups- which I learned from your channel. So thank you! Because I took the guitar to a professional and I don’t think they quite knew how to properly setup a guitar like this as it played stiff and didn’t stay in tune. I setup the guitar myself, and I got a fender American vibrato (with the reverse screw trick, thank you), and the neck pocket for some reason was angled back a bit too far (slightly more than 1 degree), which made the bridge so high and playing was stiff, but was still not bad. I ended up shimming it backward .5 degrees with a stewmac shim. This sounds like something weird with my guitar. It plays like a dream now with insane tuning stability. I ended up buying the American pro white bridge post bushings but you don’t really need them. This guitar is amazing value for the money. Thanks to you and your channel for helping me fix it up. It has quickly become my go to guitar now. Beautiful finger style playing in this video also. Cheers!
@mz2250 Жыл бұрын
can you point out which the video about reverse screw installation ?
@bandofhuman Жыл бұрын
@@mz2250 can’t find the video. Seems to be some debate on this (possibly being there are no threads in the top of the plate and so the plates might not be fully bound when you reverse) but it seems to be a common fix and it worked for me. Google Jazzmaster trem reverse screw If your strings aren’t catching on any trem plate screws don’t worry about it. But my guitar was setup in a way that mine were…so I screwed the two screws under the strings from the underside of the trem plate. This only happened because I changed the trem on the 40th for a fender brand trem because I wanted a trem lock. Honestly the stock trem is fine really and those screws in the Squier trem don’t catch. It’s silly that the fender ones do. Ask if you really want the fender trem or lock. unless you gig with it a lot and plan on breaking strings it might be fine without a lock. In retrospect I might have been fine without it, or maybe I could have found a flatter screw to substitute (the flatter Squier screws didn’t fit my fender trem).
@brandonpoole1670 Жыл бұрын
Just acquired one of these on sale straight from Fender’s website and I must say, I’m impressed. Best bang for the buck I’ve encountered in quite some time. It could use a fret polishing and the bridge assembly rattles when digging into the G string. Word on the street is to use a dab of blue threadlocker (medium strength) to secure the bridge height adjustment screws. Side note: the Allen wrench/Hex key size is 1.5mm. Other than those fixable issues, it’s a cool and interesting guitar. Neck is straight as an arrow, prob need to loosen the truss rod a 1/4” turn or so. No fret buzz tho. Overall fret finishing is good where it matters. Of course they will snag your mother’s pantyhose on the beveled edges, but they don’t poke out from the neck. Again, easily addressed if that bothers one’s tender hands. Oh, the nut is also cut very well. Overall, I’m happy with the guitar. To make a long post longer, I just sent two brand new MiM Stratocasters back for refund because they were extremely disappointing. Quality control on the MiM is a hit or miss. Just take a look at those “signature model” Troy Van Leeuwen Jazzmasters on Sweetwater’s website. Anyways, apologies for writing a book. If you’re Jazzmaster-curious, like me, this is an excellent introduction.

I can tell you that my Squire Classic Vibe 50’s Bass arrived ready to play in perfectly set up condition. Zero factory defects, zero fret sprout, zero issues. My Player Plus Meteora had lacquer on every single fret. It was never scraped off because the frets were never leveled from Ensenada. I’ve finally conquered the months of fret sprout after 6 months of ownership. If I didn’t have the tools and skills to fix that stuff, it would have gone back. I probably should have sent it back anyway.

I just got one of these in the mail yesterday and the quality is impeccable. Better than some Mexican Fenders I have seen. No finish flaws at all and astonishingly the guitar pretty much stays in tune even with a lot of vibrato use. The neck does feel great. I used a fine 0000 finishing wool on it for a quick smooth over and now it’s perfect. The trem arm was slightly loose but easily fixed with a small piece of scotch tape around the bar. Truly an amazing guitar considering I’ve been looking for a jazzmaster for a lonnnng time. Thanks again for your review.

Very thankful for this video! I was lucky to get one of these for $400 new from a Presidents Day sale and have been slowly upgrading it since. Installed Duncan Antiquity (1) pickups (and aged covers), full size 1meg Alpha pots, tophat knobs, and I am currently in the process up putting in a Staytrem bridge and maybe swapping out the tone cap (suggestions welcome for cap values)! I got this because I love the 50s vibe. It's still taking a while to grow on me though, and I've had a few odd fit & finish issues that bother me, namely off-center screw holes in the pickguard, one fret edge not rolled, squeaky/loose trem arm (have to try the hammer trick). That said, the bones of this guitar are very nice as this video shows, and I really love the look and have enjoyed upgrading it. It will be a guitar that I will bring to jams and not worry about too much.

BTW, Matthew Scott (who often buys the vintage wrecks most of us would run screaming from) has just uploaded a '63 Pancake review but, be warned, he hasn't spotted the Buzz Stop yet! 😬

Mike. I’d really like to know if you picked one up, especially at the $359 Sweetwater sale after you made the video???

Expecting delivery tomorrow from ProAudioStar. They accepted a 300$ offer plus 24$ tax. Can’t 20:32 wait to try out my first Jazzmaster. Thanks for the demo

I just bought this guitar and love it with my '68 Bandmaster Reverb. Best sounding guitar i own and your jams in this video have me inspired.

Interesting review as always! I wish you submitted every vibrato to a detuning resistance test - You check each string on a tuner, you use the vibrato normally, you recheck each string on the tuner.

Awesome 😍 I love my 40th Anniversary Gold Edition. I'd love to complete the set with the vintage edition, too! A5 pickups in the Gold, A2 in the Vintage 👍🏻

Hey Mark, are you sure of the A5 in the Vintage? Both the Fender site and one of their KZbin videos state that they're A5.

@@jjbravesfan hey mate, I just meant that if I had both I'd put A2 pickups in the vintage edition! I can see that was ambiguous though - sorry for the confusion!

Saw this video and Mikes plug at the end w that Sweetwater price of $359. Bought it right away in sea foam green. Couldn’t be happier.
