Absolutely fantastic video. I practice a different art but as he’s discussing movement principles as opposed to specific techniques, I find much of this is applicable. The bit about one base at a time helped a lot with my weight transfer and power generation. I’d love to train with this artist someday!

Exactly. Guru Plinck was very distinctive in this way of teaching the superiority of principles instead of techniques. I was very fortunate to have been able to train under him for about 6 months back in the 90's close to the time that these videos were made. I know some of the other people in this video personally as well.

Thank you,thank you,thank you SiR for teaching this as ive been practicing and learning from various styles of silat for a little over two years now and ive been trying to understand the root of the systems as i know from learning other martial arts that understanding the root allows for unlimited moves instead of just learning individual techniques so i feel you have shaved alot off of my training time to mastery teaching me this master.Do you have a channel were you teach only this system as i am wanting to learn from you above all others now ? Guro Steven Plank, have you ever tested Bukti Negara or Pukulan Silat in a friendly bareknuckle challenge against a trained western boxer? (I saw a cell phone video of a Bukti Negara fighter challenge a famous Silat master in his back yard, the older master in his 50s died later of heart attack from the brawl, but the fight degenerated from an Escrima stick duel into an untrained wrestling match w/a few wild punches. Maybe they weren't actually very skilled in their arts but I've seen competitive western boxers & collegiate wrestlers in bareknuckle challenges and they're able to apply their craft w/technical efficiency so it doesn't degenerate into what resembles an unskilled brawl.) So I'm honestly asking if you or any Pukulan Silat fighter has skillfully applied Pukulan Silat bareknuckle in a duel against skilled western boxer? Thank You.

Take a close look at the video and watch how he adjusts on the fly to unexpected/unorthodox variations in attack. The opener to this video is not on this upload but check that out to see his reaction to an unrehearsed ambush attack. It's not pretty in a demo sense and the energy is there.

Traditional martial arts were created to fight untrained attackers. But a young practitioner from S-E Asia, who spars under Silat competition rules often, would probably do well against a boxer his size.

@@daniel-zh9nj6yn6y Ehh, maybe. Competitive Silat has no head strikes whatsoever, so they probably wouldn’t be in the habit to guard against the devastating headshots that a boxer would throw.

@Dr. Tim By competitive silat, I mean the competitions where silat practitioners wear chest protectors and try to score takedowns and strikes. Those competitions don't allow head strikes so they don't watch out for head strikes, hence I was pointing out a potential weakness of sport silat against boxers. But I agree that Guru Plinck doesn't teach competitive silat, he teaches more combative "street-oriented" silat.
